This channel is still the best and most concise analysis of aerodynamics

Thanks a lot!
accidental gap in the sidepod 😂, love the sarcasm
I like it because they arent just copying anymore they are testing and trying new stuff on their own. even if its the same its teating their engineers and aero guys how to develop from scratch so even if the rules change they wont be playing catch up (once all the engineers are trained/developed up)
It would be interesting to do a video on the new redbull fpv drone video with max in the rain. Some of the flow fields of the rb 20 are clearly visible there
This really is one of the best channels on youtube

Thanks a lot!
The FW46 is neatly designed and has a sound engine. Fingers crossed! Thank you Martin for collating and analysing the excellent photos.
I wish them the best
I think this is one of your best analysis, so good!
I’m glad those cooling louvres also raise questions for you; I was baffled by their location when I saw how aggressively the water slides ramped in that area.
i quite like their new car, you can really see the good djrection James Voewels is taking the team in. Great analysis as always.

Beautiful looking car
Fantastic Analisis !
Thanks for the amazing video as always. Did you see the last redbull video? The one with the fastest camera drone? They show footage of the RB20 in the rain from above.
It’s sad that he wasn’t able to use the new FPV drone footage for making the rb20 analysis. The flow shown was so cool.
Interesting that Williams wont take Merc Juniors anymore...looks like they are serious about their future to go back of being a Strong team And when will you do another Motogp video? 😅

They’ll take them if they’re good, but Mick is better than Logan. And if Kimi does just good instead of great in his first F2 season, it’s likely they’ll get him for a season or two.

@@The_ZeroLine no, they want driver security, they don't care if they're good. They don't want to keep taking drivers that they can only keep a year and a bit because they can't develop and integrate them with the team and car.

@@F1ll1nTh3Blanks Driver security is worthless when the driver doesn’t score and crashes all the time. Please engage your brain.

@@The_ZeroLine Okay, why don't you tell that to Williams then, smartass. Literally, even if and or when they drop Logan. Their first priority is gonna be to secure another longer term prospect, be that from their own academy or experience from elsewhere, they're not gonna be seat warming for other teams. Not without a bag. Believe that now, or don't, Idc, it's not like James hasn't already made clear his stance anyway.
It looks like they are starting with a few comprimises. I hope they score some good points this year.
Do you have any theories about the purpose of the wedge shaped front wing endplate vane?
I'm guessing the increased anti-dive is causing more flow obstruction to the undercut. So they gain platform control, but have messier wake going to the undercut, as well as less feel under braking.

Less feel under braking than a reference car yes, but the FW-45 suffered terrible front locking tendencies, so the 46 is a net improvement here.

@@dienkonig33 So you improve aero consistency at the expense of feel. It's a tradeoff, in engineering there's no free lunches, the best you can hope for is value meals. You improve something but make something worse in exchange for a net gain after the pluses and minuses are weighed out.

Hmm, I thought that the main point of anti-dive in current regulations is to guide down extra air to the undercut. I can see that this would provide lower energy air for the waterslide section of sidepods, and not cause adverse effects of undercut. Do you think that anti-dive plays a big role when it comes to F1 suspensions, or that front wheel travel is not significant enough to be a game changer?
@rolandotillit2867

@aninic2220 Anti-dive is good for pitch control, aside from cornering braking is the strongest load the cars will see. 5g+ That kind of load will cause the car to pitch down, pitching down changes the aerodynamics of the floor. If your suspension geometry has anti-dive, then you can have more pitch control for a given suspension stiffness. The aerodynamics come in from the fact the suspension control arms are aerodynamic losses. Having a pushrod with a lot of anti-dive means the control arms are crossing each other and the flow that goes around the pushrod, and the rear upper control arm is blocked by an X that forms. This means the airflow that goes to the undercut is being blocked and being made turbulent by the wake of the arms crossing each other. This is less of a problem with a pullrod, because the control arm leg that gives you the anti-dive becomes aligned with the pullrod. The wake of the arms is confined to a plane instead of crossing over each other. The wake from the front wing is upwashing air up to the sidepods, and the control arms are at best conditioning the flow, but the arms themselves are aerodynamic losses no matter what. Aero performance would be roughly 10% better if you could magically have no control arms connecting the wheels to the suspension. If the front axle suspension is costing you 5% of downforce just from being there, to 10% if it's badly designed from an aerodynamic sense. Then just improving that can be easily worth a few tenths by itself.
They'll make P6
Keeping the pullrod rear suspension when every other Merc costumer is moving to the pushrod system is a very odd choice to me. You'd want unclutter and open up that area as much as possible, right?

It‘s a good deal for them. They didn’t have to wait for the new gearbox design and they save money.
Why would they mix clean air with dirty. Even if would not do that.
Kind of nervous about this car. I’m afraid it’ll lose what could make it so competitive and that it might have all the same problems without the insane straight line. It’s still sensitive in the wind.
Yay it's not a script fed through an AI Voice generator. How do you do fellow human?

Yes, Martin is a human being new and improved, compared to us.
Do you think Red Bull could change the the V shaped side pod shape from here the apex if the V at the back to having the apex of the V in the radiators be laterally outboard or onboard?
Everything about this car seems to defy the concepts of the RedBull and in testing it already seems to work as well as that suggests. Tiny diffuser, wide flat nose, cluttered and abrupt waterslide area. I think they are ok with suspension dynamics cough mercedes.
hopefully williams can take advantage of the fact the alpine is complete shit
