On this channel we like to do a lot of dogfighting most videos are some sort of dogfight between 2 different aircraft as we explore their different capabilities. From time to time I like to dabble in Virtual Reality, I think VR is a great new technology and I love to show that stuff off for the channel from time to time.
If you enjoy war thunder or Microsoft flight simulator 2020 or even dogfighting in Battlefield 2042, consider getting yourself into Digital Combat Simulator by Eagle Dynamics, the Combat side of Aviation with the BVR and Dogfights really provides a different and interesting perspective on aviation. You can fly all kinds of combat aircraft including the F-16, F-15, F-14, JF-17, Su-27, Mig-29, Mirage and the F-18 Hornet along with many other aircraft and helicopters like the Ka-50 and Mi-8.

    @Growling Sidewinder. I knew you were going to get eaten pitting the Hornet against the S-400. The S-400 isn't just a SAM system, it's a If I can see you, I will kill you system. The key to victory over an S-400 is to not get spotted by the S-400. Even with the Raptor, I was worried about the S-400 picking you up as you got closer to it. But in the end, you win the day. Awesome video.

  • @arm-power

    @arm-power

    Жыл бұрын

    @@themusikpainters6707 Reality is that Ukrainian 40-years old S300 causes enough thread that new Russian Su-57 Felon doesn't even try getting close. And S400 which was designed with stealth airplanes on their mind. Even considering that F-22 has far better stealth than Su-57. I think F-22 might be pretty invisible to small airplane radars because it uses typically 11 kW radar power output. But S400 site with power output in hundreds of kW (at least 10x multiplier) and large antennas for higher sensitivity to detect weak signals (10-100x bigger surface) gives you overall multiplier of 100-1000x to detect stealth airplane with lower RCS. Just pure physics. You would need RCS divider much higher than this stationary radar multiplier ratio to stay undetected by the SAM site. Also signal strength increase with power of two so at half range radar has 4x stronger signal. This probably explains why even old S300 is still very dangerous to any stealth today. However for airplane to airplane engagement the stealth makes huge difference - and that's why it makes sense to invest into it. Another thing is UHF, L-band and X-band radars. Stealth aircraft has different RCS for each band. This IMHO comes into play with S400. Any modern SAM site is no-go zone without proper SEAD mission. Flying F-22 somehow 10 km close to S400 and being undetected is very unlikely. So you were right DCS simply lacks some proper data for S400 vs. F-22 engagement.

    @@arm-power I don’t think we know nearly enough about SU-57s OR their engagements with S-300s for that to be a valid argument. Especially since the SU-57s stealth isn’t great, especially compared to the F22.

  • @arm-power

    @arm-power

    Жыл бұрын

    @@andrewrogers3067 As I said the stealth is useful only against other airplanes (weak onboard radar). F-117 was shot down in Yugoslavia because it flew an identical path twice (they broke safety rule). Yugoslavian SAM unit moved to last path in case US air force will make a mistake. And they did. Pretty old and obsolete SAM unit S-75 Dvina (far from S200 or S300 or S400 or S500) activated their radar and thanks to high power and large antenna and close range they were able to lock and shot down stealth F-117. Do not believe it was detected because of open bomb bay for few seconds - semi-active guided SAM rockets need to "see" target all the time during approach (much longer than few seconds) . Russian air-planes are not stealth because they are designed for defensive purposes to operate under SAM cover (and SAM can detect stealth planes easy). That's why Su-57 doesn't need to be focused to stealth. Of course this means Su-57 is poor for attacking purpose in compare to F-22.

    the equivalent cross section greatly depends on angle, there will be some angles at which the F-22 and any other stealth planes return a lot of radar energy and the pilots will be trained to minimise that with their own classified data. also worth noting that the chaff doesnt have the same doppler shift that the F-22 would bc of movement, so even if the equivalent cross section is larger, it might be perceived as a lower priority target than the smaller area plane which has indicators that its a faster moving plane.

    I can see a HARM2 coming. It carries a Harmblade kamikaze drone with a radar seeker in it that is releases within range of the Sx00 system, so if the HARM gets shot down, the tiny little drone still gets through and hits the radar antenna itself, which is all it takes to disable the whole system in the end.

    That assumes the s400 does an nlaw and predicts the path of the f22 after detection and launches the missile accordingly since it cannot achieve a radar lock for weapons employment. Of course the f22 could have immediately change course to throw off the predictive flight path intercept.

    Stealth is important, but not as important as combined arms doctrine. You need stealth, the ability to field multiple platforms, superior intelligence, superior technology, solid communication and ample assets combined with unified strategy and tactics. You approach these exercises as if they were old UFC fights with single entities representing a single traditional martial art as opposed to a modern mma fighter who utilizes seamless transitions between options of attack and defend.
