Removing BT 5.4 and WiFi 7 just to match their best processor does not look good. Plus, the ultra has 8 Gen 3 for Galaxy which is not comparable to the others on paper. What a shit show.

Exactly! The fact that the OG Samsung phone only comes with Gen3 CPU, tells you how much confidence Sammy has for their in-house Exynos chipset. In fact, we know it would be garbage compared to Gen 3 because Google Tensor chips are modified versions of Exynos and are at least 2 generations behind competition regarding raw performance.

Here we go again, with the inferior Exynos SoC being shoved down our throats if we don't live in the US... Samsung did a nice thing with the S23 series, but now they're almost back to the same crap... I'm surprised they didn't use the Exynos in the S24 Ultra, maybe they want people to buy that model. Anyway, let's wait for the "official" results, but I don't think those will impress anybody...

It's a money thing. Samsung's chips division is hemorrhaging money. There isn't enough margin most likely on the non ultra models. They are cost-cutting. They just aren't making money They have to cut wherever they can. I also bet their ultra models are their highest-selling skus just like apples highest selling iphones are the pros

because samsung has a separate division for their CPU chip manufacturing,. and samsung mobile division is keeping them alive by buying their Exynos chips. but yeah, sacrificing your users into forcing an inferior chip just to keep its production alive is not good at all. but i do believe is that it is not the chip's designs fault but rather the manufacturing process. Samsungs chip manufacturing is really bad that when they made the snap dragon 888 and 888 gen1 they suffer from poor generational performance and a lot of heating issues. so in order for Exynos to be good. Samsung's manufacturing process has to improve first..

Our local YT channel (Zona IT - means IT Zone in romanian) got the 3 phones for several hours to test. For S24 ultra he got 7118 in one test and 7078 points in another in Geekbench 6 CPU test multicore with 2333 and 2287 for the single core tests. The S24+, with Exynos, he got 6690 in multicore and 2107 in single core. For the smaller S24, the results are 6516 and 2134. And he said he didn't felt like either overheated in the benchmark, nor in the short gaming afterwards. And that, while weaker, this Exynos 2400 feels much improved and closer to the Snapdragon chip than in the previous generations. (Edited for better, more info)

There was never an exynos beating a snapdragon afaik, also even if they benchmark similar, it doesn't mean much, for example my S21 ultra with exynos is way worse at emulation than a snapdragon 888, even though the s21 ultra's exynos benchmarks better. There is no reason to do this in a flagship smartphone, that costs more than 1000. Snapdragons also tend to be way more energy efficient, remember the S22 disaster, do you really want this again, I don't. There must be a reason for that samsung gave the S24 ultra the snapdragon exclusively, it's as they're already admitting that the snapdragon is better and exynos not good enough for the ultra. @@frankreynolds9930

Once qualcomm switched back over to TSMC all was good and well in the 8+G1 and above. Hopefully the 8G3FG keeps that same pattern.

As a person from the "bane" regions, I was very happy to hear last year that Samsung were finally switching to Snapdragon globally - as a result a bough a S23, but year later they're again two steps back... I don't care about the AI crap - it's cool but how often will you really use it? I don't care about WiFi 7 - who has routers that support that anyway... All I want (and it's not just me) is a small, yet powerful phone with good battery life and in that regard I think they nailed it with the S23! I'm pretty sure that the battery life will suck on Exynos but Samsung doesn't seem to care. I'm not planning to change my phone, of course, but when I do, if Samsung is still deciding to punish me based on where I live, while paying the same amount of money and getting less, I'll simply skip their phones right away, no matter how much better their phone is... in US/Canada... Time will tell, but to me it seems that AGAIN, if you care about the long term support of your phone and you're not lucky enough to live in US/Canada, you have practically two options - a Pixel or an iPhone.

As expected Snapdragon beats in almost every cases Samsung's Exynos. Even collaboration with AMD couldn't save Exynos from Qualcomm's years of experience. AMD also realized that making low power GPU for Arm SoCs isn't the same when making their classic x86 APU. I would say Qualcomm and Mediatek r the top 2 Arm chip designs for Android for Android smartphones/tablet devices. Arm's design with Mali GPU is slightly behind them. Thx Gary for making this one!

I can't agree with the final answer that it doesn't matter. It matters when the phone are so different that one throttles in gaming much sooner than other, or when one has 60fps and other 80fps to start with. It matters also for the money we pay for top specs. It matters after a 1,2,3, 4 or more years of using so than phone has lots of data and apps to work with which can further show differences in power/battery consumption (I plan on sticking with it for longer time). And it matters when one is losing battery during the non-usage period (standby) by noticeable margin than other. Those I mentioned are based on previous Exynos vs Snapdragon findings as well as the new rumours and tests made so far with newest chipsets (fps differences mainly).

There was a video on KZread that showed Snapdragon achieving 80fps and Exynos 60 at the same game. However, after some time, contrary to the past experiences with those two processors, Snapdragon throttled more than Exynos. In some other stress tests again, Snapdragon reached higher temps but I'm not sure if Snapdragon has higher thermal threshold overall. My other conclusions considering the performance of both CPUs were based on past experiences and my dissatisfaction with Samsung on topic of Exynos. In the end, I'll wait for your hands on testing to conclude this objectively and really hoping this time Samsung at least made Exynos on par with Snapdragon in terms of thermal regulation and standby battery management.

Man, many flagships in 2023 had WiFi 7. But Samsung didn't offer it even in their greatest S23 ultra even though SD2 had WiFi 7 and there was no Exynos. No offence but your assumption is totally opposite, Samsung probably just did not feel the need of it for the lower models. That's why Exynos probably did not include it, not vice versa. Real answer is that, as previously, Samsung puts only the Snapdragon into the entire range they sell in South Korea. If you feel the Exynos processor you make is not good enough for your home country consumers, then why foist it off on other markets? The other thing to watch for is that when they do split the product range (as when they had the S22 Ultra with Snapdragon everywhere for the first time but mixed markets with rest of S22) they tend to do funny things with their software to hamper the performance of the Snapdragon in order to make any differential in benchmarks as artificially small as possible. They stopped doing that in the S23 when they went Snapdragon everywhere for the whole S23 range and, voila, much better performance reported for S23U as it did have a later gen chip but also had not been dumbed down by Samsung. They have turned off wifi 7 for S24 and 24+ so Exynos won't look the dog, so what else have they dumbed down again in the software versions they push to the mixed markets??? If it isn't good enough for South Korea, the home of Samsung, then I'm not buying an Exynos version.

There is always a difference. And we will see it with the on-device AI processing. It uses Google Ai, however the processor is crucial in delivering on the feature. Samsung is releasing the S24/S24+ with Exynos, because it is cheaper, as they want to go below Apple. However this stunt is one of the cause of their downfall. Not everybody can afford a S24U and more and more people are being aware that the Exynos is slower and is prone to overheating. Regular customers doesn't care or know which processor they have, but once the complaining starts, the difference comes to light. I have nothing against having their own chipset. Google has it, Apple has it, but you can't put the TOP one available in the Ultra flagman and yours in the other lineup outside of USA and expect to not be blasted. Samsung is going to loose more and more share with these stunts.
