Noticed it no worries, also aout the adreno, I left a comment below, as I wonder if I need to bother paying the same money I paid in 2022 for Edge 30 Pro with 8 gen 1 Adreno 730 +12 LPDDR5 and now should I go for Edge 50 Ultra SD8s Adreno 735+ 16LPDDR5x. Mine is perfect, even not running hot in the Moto as it did in other devices back in 2022, I just need a battery soon. Is it worth it, I like the brighter display and if it is not so power hungry, but paying even more than I did 20% almost for nearly the same device (I don't care about camera)? OR do you recommend, if I upgrade from what I have to aim for a SD8 Gen 3 device ,maybe I can reach Honor Magic6 Pro or the warmer Xiaomi 14 Ultra(it will be hard, but they are still slightly under S24 Ultra- it's out of my Budget)?

It's an OVERCLOCKED SD 7TH series 3rd gen. Based on it's architecture, similar to 7+ gen 3. Qualcomm is lying, telling people it's an 8th series SoC.

The naming scheme is misleading. Consumers may think they are getting an actual Gen 3 or something better. They should have called it a "Snapdragon 8 Gen 2s".

Adreno 735 inside the 8sGen 3 is an overclocked version of the Adreno 730 inside the Snapdragon 8+Gen1 it is not a downgrade of the adreno 740 in the Snapdragon 8Gen2 Power efficiency is way lower and peak performance is nowhere near Adreno 740 Not to mention the peak GPU frequently is very explosive at 1100 Mhz the max power draw is insane

It is basically SD8G2 design but with the newer cores like X4 instead of X3, A720 instead of A710 and A715 and A520 instead of A520. Even the clock speeds are the same. Again 4nm like the Gen 2 so this chip must be using slightly lower power given that clock speeds are the same and the improvements in CPU performance as well as efficiency should be whatever ARM says their newer CPU core designs are.

​@@argo1288that's not the case here Adreno 735 is literally just an upgraded version of Adreno 730 rather than a downgrade of Adreno 740 The efficiency is worse and it has lower ALU's the architecture is the exact same as that of Adreno 730

How much L3 cache does the 8s gen 3 have?

Please do a per per watt comparison and battery efficiency 8 g3, 8s g3, 7+ g3, 8 g2

Maybe 's' stand for slower cpu or slim features

Why do you think this is for tablets? Do you understand that, this is a weaker version of the SD8G3? If everything is the same, but the clock speed is lowered, than you basically just loosing performance (and gain a bit better thermal, but that is certanly not a big problem on the much bigher tablet body, just check the M1 in iPad, what is a doubled A14 from iPhone 12)

My only query is at 4:27 in that the SD 8s 3 can only do 4K 60fps HDR when my Xperia 1 V can do 4k HDR120fps from all 3 cameras

Yes, sorry about that. I made a pinned comment and added an update to the description several days ago about the clock speed.

Motorola 50 Ultra is using it. I dont think there will be a noticeable difference except in benchmarks and the most graphically intensive 3d games.

Miss when naming make simple. SD805, SD808, 845, 865, 888

this should be called 8+ gen 2 not 8s gen 3

Maybe they can name it as 8-Gen3 and 8+Gen3 for these two chips

I wonder why this exists. Will no flagship OEM use it, as it is below the current SD8G3? It may be cheaper, and therefore, next year, when some OEMs usually use the SD8G3, this will replace that expensive chip, and the SD8G3 will be discontinued. I suppose time will tell...

The 8+ Gen 2 would use the same CPU cores (i.e. Cortex-X3) but at higher clock speeds. This uses the same CPU core designs as the Gen 3.

A product no one asked for 😒

The Gen 2 has Adreno 740, so if this is between/ above Gen 2 and below Gen 3, why the hell it has an Adreno 735. Does the 5 at the end mean higher/newer gen than 0, so 735 is slightly better than 740? I wanted to replace my so beloved 2022 flagship Motorola Edge 30 Pro, because it was (still is) the perfect flagship, when I compare budget Galaxy S 22 Ultra competitors. It has the same SOC it runs a bit cooler ( as this is the reason I consider upgrading, Gen 1 is power hungry, but maybe all top dogs are) and it compromises in Camera, which is more than perfect for me and not IP68. This gave me a competitor that beat the S22 ultra in benchmarks with a lil bit and Moto had the 8 gen 1 running cold compared to competition. Now I wanted a 50 Pro, it came with SD 7 gen 3, perfect near flagship device for money, but I waited for edge 50 Ultra, si Iif I will upgrade from 8 gen 1/ 12RAM, it must be 8 gen 3/ 12 or 16 RAM 5x. Now I really wonder, as my battery has 700 cycles, I use it for notebook, do I replace the battery, or do I replace SD 8 gen 1 with SD 8S gen 3 and a little more RAM? What do you think people? I am trying to get a different budget competitor of S24 Ultra Xiaomi 14 Ultra or Honor magic 6 Pro, but the price is too high for me and is too close to the Galaxy? I might stick to a new battery:(

Well some people can afford to spend that little bit of money to upgrade their chip but not enough to upgrade it to a flagship. That's where the terms of the flagship killer comes in with this chip.

Nothing Phone 3 will probably have this SoC.

Because of the bit lower frequency, they can't use the same amount of power, so it's more efficient, but at the cost of some performance loss (for the same reason, the lowered clock speed use less power but also perform less)

There's already a 7 Gen 3 which is inferior to 7+ Gen 2. There's also a 7+ Gen 3 recently released which is speculated to be an underclocked 8s Gen 3.

Xiaomi released the Xiaomi Civi 4 pro with this SOC a few days ago. Q: When is the hourglass is going to turn and people will start asking for less neural engine capabilities rather than more as the idiotic trend is going nowadays? 🤔 Isn't it weird that AI chips are being integrated in everything. If i bring the matter of how expensive they are to make a moron will say: "oh but its costs declines' when being mass produced blah blah blah 🤡" When I see someone happy with how AI is running on every device that we buy and power I know straight away that he's either knows so little, or knows a lot but complicit. People will snap out of this trend sooner or later.

Can't wait to not use any of the LLM and ray tracing features. Most stupid and useless things to do on mobile devices. If only more silicon was used on things that actually matter, like cache and better CPU/GPU architecture.

This should have been the next 7 series, not 8s. This is a bad marketing and naming scheme. I see a lawsuit in the near future over them saying their same same but different, but they are actually entirely different.

Qualcomm naming convention is getting worse day by day, they could easily go by 8Gen3 Lite but no, looks like they are gonna mess up with everyone's braincells. Edit: The Adreno version for SD8sG3 is Adreno 735, which is slightly weaker version of SD8G2's Adreno 740. (Source: Gadget Versus)
