Looked great. How about next time, pour one colour of UV resin, harden it, then another colour, harden it, then a third. The second and third pours will intermingle with the previous cavities created too.

You might want to consider marketing this to traditional table top gamers. Thing D&D or Warhammer and the like. This would make for a masterful centerpiece. Especially with the underlighting! And the price would be right, I assure you.

This is a great idea! You can't make the UV resin black though - the UV won't be able to penetrate to harden it. But you can do it with a little pigment like this, then it would look cool with some regular black resin in the bottom, then once it cures, clear to fill it up the rest of the way. I think that would give a really great result.

You are kind of doing the opposite of the ant hill pour. In those pours the ground supports the aluminum that is poured into a void. In your pours there is a void and ice, the ice melts making a much bigger void. You need to surround the ice with something, pour the resin so it melts the ice and the hopefully remove what was originally holding the ice in place.

So there is a 3D printer filament that dissolves in water. Its used as a support media for prints so that its super easy to remove. Print out a bunch of ice shaped blocks, glue them together, pour resin over them, let it cure, soak it in water

There's also salt/sugar. You can get it to bind together into a solid cube, probably using water, and then letting it dry inside an ice cube tray. Maybe use a little flour/cornstarch as a binder. And there's water-soluble fabric, used as a backing medium in embroidery. Hard to make cubes out of it, but useful for other shapes.

Almost 60 years ago, when I was in the Cub Scouts, I learned to make candles like this using ice, wax, string, and milk cartons (the old paper cartons). came out really nice. Just had to let them dry for several days because the string would absorb water. That was really cool!

Great result with the UV resin! One other way you can try it (if you feel like doing another one) is to use polyurethane resin. It cures super fast, so it should harden really quickly while the ice is still fully frozen. That way you could do a big one with a full bag of ice like you wanted.

I knew the UV resin was going to work well! Back in the early 1970s, my late father worked at a great, artistic candle making company. And one of the things we loved to do was pour coloured wax over ice cubes, and crushed ice. Much easier to get a similar effect. I got a real pleasant nostalgic memory out of this! If you make another one of these, and it seems kind of flexible, or brittle - you could drizzle more resin over the top of it. Either UV or possibly quick setting resin. Just a thought!

You might want to invest in a curing station designed for resin 3D printers. They have a very bright array of UV lights and a turntable that keeps the item rotating. You could have simply put the container of ice and resin on there and had a much easier time of it. Maybe just use the resin designed for those printers as well, It comes in many different colors or clear.

You could also try using sugar cubes rather than ice cubes with regular resin! Once the resin has cured (assuming the sugar doesn’t mess that up somehow?) you can soak the sculpture in warm water until the sugar dissolves. The sugar would likely leave an interesting surface texture. I think gummy bears or jolly ranchers would work too: anything solid that will dissolve in water will do the trick, I think.

Might be neat to make one of those, then add clear resin and carve into a dragon egg! Or you could make a clear one, and dust with color chift, or a few different shades of mica...then encase in resin and make an egg. You could experiment with different shapes/sizes of ice cubes too! Maybe try dry ice as well. Make one with blue resin around big Ice cubes.... then when that is cured and dry, pack with small ice cubes and drizzle on red resin! You always think of the most interesting ideas!

try using a 3d printer curing station normally used with resin prints, has more UV coverage and more powerful

Amazing! I absolutely love all of the galleries. How about the next time try doing the same thing in the blue, but after it fully cures. Fill the container back up with water & freeze it. Then try it again with red, any other color or maybe a glow in the dark. Looking forward to next weeks experiment. God bless & take care. A fan from SE Louisiana, USA.🇺🇸🙏

I'm glad you tried with UV!! I would still love to see Water beads in resin! I've only seen videos where it failed. Maybe UV resin is needed! Loved the final piece!
