Would resin ashtrays work? Or will the cigarettes melt the resin? Basically im asking if its harder than typical plastic or is it typical plastic?

You found a way to turn resin into something that can be hand molded (in smaller quantities)! How interesting!
Garden sculpture. Put a disk of wood under with a dowel in the centre, and then populate it with resin mushrooms and gnomes. Bummer it didn't go as planned, but, um, content for the channel!

Yes, that was my first thought too. Maybe add a ring of leds inside pointing down to illuminate the magic critters. Another thought was to turn it upside down and use it as some sort of mysterious meeting place. Like in Indiana Jones Crystal Skull where the aliens appear. The blobs which were the legs are are now mystical clouds/haze emanating from the structure. Wooo PS your thumbnail is in Fahrenheit. Tut tut. Are you banana benders imperial?

There's a sculptor who cures resin in a freezer, but he's doing super deep pours that would overheat otherwise, and it's in there for 2+ weeks.

Every time you have a bit of resin left over during a project, pour it on top of the sculpture. I have seen paint spires like that, pretty cool.
It definitely would make a neat arctic themed ice cave ambient lamp
As a concept, you'd need something that stays solid at curing temp but could then be melted without affecting the resin. Beyond that, you're working with items that could either be removed after (like balls or balloons) or casting clear resin that would serve as an artificial void in a container while colored resin seeps into the negative space. That latter idea would result in a solid chunk that gave the appearance of holes -- of a kind, anyway.
I wonder what would happen if you used cubes of wax? On a really hot day, I think that paraffin would melt out, but beeswax would be more of a sure thing.
@Merennulli
3 ай бұрын
I was wondering the same. They could use a heat gun to melt out wax too. And the Artcast resin curing gets into the melting temperature range of paraffin wax also, so it might work a bit more like they were hoping this would.
@BensWorx

The waxes used by jewellers for carving are worth a look and can take higher temps before they melt.

You just made a... "Thing". What a beautiful ... "Thing" you've got there!
Damn you laws of thermodynamics!!
It's a bit like a tutorial for serial killer and his apprentice, first take a towel, then beat it with a mallet, then grab the sticky tape.... oooh.... great content as always guys... it's like a table lamp for John Carpenter's "The Thing"

EvanandKaitlin did a large pour and put it in a fridge to cure. Maybe if you did a fridge with low temp wax and after the cure just warm up the oven or use a hair dryer to drip the wax out

@@Boogie_the_catI am so with you on this. I also stopped watching them 😬 x
How about using a large bag of clear marbles instead of ice??? (coat them with a thick few layers of that spray release for silicone moulds)! Also wouldn't making a bag out of Aluminium foil work better? (I'm fairly certain at least on the shiny side of aluminium that it will peel off the resin easy) Or coat the inside of the bag with the release spray. ALSO I've seen other KZreadrs use Orbeez in a container then pour resin in. (Use one with a lid so you can mix it) Or put them inside a large balloon add water let them expand then add resin....
A fun experiment. Glad to see yall both having fun, even if it didn't turn out like you originally wanted. It makes me think of a jellyfish. Would be a neat nightstand lamp, or if those drips/legs were stable and strong enough, could even be a kids stool or chair.
I would turn it upside down and plant something in it. That was hilarious and I actually think the end result wasn't awful - loved hearing you and Nicole laugh :)

I like how ot turned out. It looks like an Ice Glacier. When you had it upside down, I thought that it looked like it belonged in a coral reef. Shame it didn't work the way you hoped, but still got something nifty at the end.
I wonder if a small scale try with UV resin would work? Also I keep wondering what a burlap egg or bowl or what ever would look like....
At least you both laughed and had fun.
Nicole is right with "at least you are giving the viewers a laugh"! LOL this was so much fun to watch, even if he experiment failed

A sculpture, yes. But more for a small pond, the fish would use it as a sun shelter. As for your cake stand idea Ben. You could add a thin leveling layer. Either clear or maybe pale green. Add some structural support wood, resin, stone, etc.. Plus, you could always add lighting effects either way. Just my thoughts. Btw, Nicole, yes, this video made me laugh. Cheers mates.
Well that was fun and very interesting! I was cracking up over the stickiness! In the end it came out really cool looking. I think it would look really cool with some sort of light in it.
This one had me laughing. Watching the ice and resin melt was actually really cool. I'd definitely go with the light underneath and a nice base. I am sad to see that the rubix ball is going to be gone. I always enjoy seeing it make an appearance. Awesome video 👍

Thanks Mark! I have been making a few Rubik’s balls lately 😊
Lampshade would be really cool, I bet that would cast some awesome shadows. It kinda reminds me of like an ice level from a video game, so maybe it could be a case of bringing the ice back in through the design if not the actual ice itself? Either way, interesting video even if it didn't go as planned
It’s great to see you both having fun. Even with a “failed” experiment.
I think that I was right when I said that was a bad idea to begin with. However, I love that you experimented and especially that you have such a wonderful attitude about everything.
My husband and I really enjoyed this video because you acted like we would have if we had tried this. All the laughing is great!!! put 2 grooves in it and call it an ashtray. lol
Looks cool maybe put a night light in it or maybe some things for ur garden
Would make a good star wars diorama. Maybe Hoth?
It's a thing that things real good, if ya ask me!
BEST to do it with silicon or shomting faster curing that produce less heat. then use that mold for epoxy
maybe try something like Algenate. it holds a shape real well, but it will dry out and shrink. maybe something like that can help with getting some of the desired shapes you were hoping for?
Great experiment, still made something nice. Also, you learned something new, I'd say it's a win.
Hmmm…Easter is on my birthday this year & since it’s my 50th, I think I might treat myself to a gift from your store!🤔🥳 Edit: This was a really fun video! I think that it would make a cool lamp shade.
it looks like you made a base for a 3d map of Terry Pratchett's Discworld to me - add 4 elephants underneath, and stand the whole thing on the back of a turtle!
I think the arc resin would be cool to do this in, because it cures way faster! You could add some wood to the failed pour, and turn it into a lamp somehow!
Oops! 😅 Thank you for the laugh. It was a great idea though!! I likes your idea of a lamp. You could use it as a small table. It could be a decorative bowl. What ever you guys decide, will be great. 🤗💜

Maybe try Dry ice next time. Keep it in the freezer and let it slowly set up? Not sure if that will work either. Would be an interesting experiment.
It's a blue footed blobby! Just needs a couple of googly eyes and a big orange beak! 😅 That was so much fun!
Looks like a physical piece for a D&D table top session, like a frozen cave entrance with icicles to beckon adventurers to its icy depths. You could light it up for that extra ambience. Alternatively it could be a fancy icy themed diorama/lamp with polar bears/Christmas and such. It would need an icy/snowy floor to sit on.
It's an iceberg octopus!
I love it! It’s very very different than anything I’ve ever seen before. It was a lot of fun watching your experiment!!
Team work makes the dream work👍
This made me laugh so hard!!😂❤
Thanks for the laugh!! Enjoy your masterpiece!!
You know what might be really cool? Create containers of different colored resins (maybe use veggie oil on the inside of the containers to keep it from sticking), and put the containers in the freezer to get the resin to turn taffy like, then stretch out the different colors and lay them over each other. Then roll it up and stretch it out to get the different colors to swirl and put the whole blob into a container so that it can settle and set.
Definitely abstract art 😅 Maybe add more resin, like leftovers and make it more drippy. Also maybe try using something like orbies or something else that will shrink in time 💡
Made me giggle so much!!!! I love it!!! 😂
NOT a fail! I would use it as a bowl for candy. Candles on the leg/plateau parts would be pretty. Glue a little candle holder on those legs and put a big candle in the middle. I would love to see that.

OMG 😂 that's so funny Hey at least you made a sculpture 😁😉
It’s like taffy! 😂😂😂😂❤ A lamp would be cool.
I instantly thought "floating island sculpture". Put a small island on the top, maybe a fisher man or sailor, maybe add some clouds near the bottom, and put on a see through plinth. I'm surprised it still cured in the end. Resin tends to not like water, but the fact it still cured after the ice cubes melted is amazing!
My idea was getting a silicone sphere mold, putting orbeez in it, and then pouring resin
I didn't know you guys were going to make taffy. 😂
Beauty in the eye of the beholder.
I can't believe it set even though you mixed water in with it insane 🤯 Cool experiment!
Chuck a light under it. Could look cool in the garden....or a fish pond lol
This was lots of fun! 😂
What I would do is use it as a display tables for some of your other projects.
I liked watching the resin percolate through the ice. I was surprised at how easily the bag came off! I’m not going to be a spoiler for those who read the comments first. You seemed to have fun, anyway.
For future reference, you just drop the bag of ice on the floor. Works every time.
I think you should pour a pretty thin layer into the bottom to stabilize the shape and then do like Nicole suggested and make a cake stand. A nice black support in the interior center would look classy and you could level off the top that formed around the bowl, then give it a food-safe coating.
A tip for breaking up the ice in bags, instead of whacking it with something, just drop the bag on its side on the table/counter/ground a few times from 12"-24" height
Looks like a mini water tower, a good job
Love that sculpture. Thank you for the laughs guys. I will most definitely be subscribing to you 😂

If you turn it flat side down you could turn it into something like an alien fish pond. Those drips and puddles would look like strange and weird vegetation.
honestly I love the shape it left, I havent a clue what to do with it, maybe put a light in it for a cute lamp. and next time use the freezer any time you have a lot of resin in a pot so it doesnt cure to quickly, its great to prevent layer lines!

You could turn it into a lightshade for a battery operated light that has a remote control and hang it on the ceiling. I got a good laugh watching you try to work with it when you brought back inside.
