As a long time fan of Nuno, I get it when you said "Nuno Bettencourt baby, Nuno's back" on the specific part of his solo😊

I really enjoy your assessment here. I am a 60 year old guitarist and have loved Extreme since their first release in 1989. I love Extreme. They have never received the recognition they deserve. Maybe this new album will change that? Nuno is just one of the best. His groove and tone are simply killer. I cannot get enough. Rock on!

The lyrics according to Gary are about fame...they lift you up then tear you apart... the guitar playing was very much a carrying of the torch after Eddie Van Halen passed. Shortly before Eddie passed... Gary brought Eddie to Nuno's house, Ed was playing some of Wolfgang's album and Eddie wanted to hear what they were working on but Nuno didn't want to play it because they were still finishing it, but wanted him to hear it when it was finished because it was that part of Nuno's playing that was influenced by Eddie... they never got the chance because Eddie passed.

Not only that, but the last three lead off album singles are “Hip Today”, “Star” and “Rise”, all sharing a running theme of ego and what fame and wealth brings. Throw in tracks like “Kid Ego” and even Hurtsmile’s “Rock & Roll Cliche” and it’s clear the muse is fame, fortune and watching people get chewed up by the fame or thinking they’re above it all.

I love Extreme, but you could throw Nuno into a gaggle of angsty badgers and I'd still listen to him riff out for days. He is the torch bearer for Eddie and it's exactly what the world needs right now.

Great review, thank you. I think I’ve probably watched every KZread review of this song as I’ve followed Extreme right from the outset and you obviously know your stuff on the band. After first hearing this song I’ve dug out my old TAB books and dived headfirst back down the rabbit hole. I believe one really important thing to say that reviewers aren’t saying is that Extreme are producing something NEW when it seems all other bands from their era are reforming and living off nostalgia tours and the way that Gary has kept his voice is absolutely incredible. Right at the end he sounds like Chris Cornell. There is nothing more that can be said about Nuno, his playing can only be described as Tasty. It’s more than simply guitar playing it permeates every aspect of Extreme.

Has he done something like this before? Uh yeah! All over everything he's ever done! That had me laughing. My sis was a big extreme fan when we were kids and we listened to them a lot growing up. When I heard this I couldn't help thinking it was right out of peacemaker die! I'd thank her for getting me into extreme, but she also made me listen to a lot of new kids on the block around the same time. I guess you have to take the rough with the smooth!

I remember hanging out with Gary and Nuno in 2012 and asking “what’s taking so long, it’s been almost 4 years since the last album!?” 11 years later that original 4 years seems fast! 😂

I've been trying to say the same to everyone this last month cause everybody thinks it's delay. I tell them to listen to Midnight Express and Peacemaker Die. They just don't know Nuno has been doing all this crazy shit since 85. Finally people appreciate the monster he is.

Extreme fan since day one. This instantly propels them over every so called new rock band out there they all seem too scared to put any badass guitar in their songs. Welcome back Extreme, so freaking excited!

I couldn’t agree more to your initial words… hardly anybody got them. And I guess, hardly anyone gets ‚em these days. To me, Nuno for 30 years now is by far the greatest guitarist.. not because of technique, but because of his groove and feel and because of his musicality… and no one gets that, either. Back in the days, I was the first to buy an “Extreme“-Album.. and because of that they sold at least another 100 more albums.. 🙃 However, you forgot to mention “The Beatles“ as for their influence.. 😉 Cheers from Switzerland

Waiting for the punchline is awesome. This song sounds like it could be on 3 sides. It's stripped down as far as the As and Bs of the song but the parts are well orchestrated and layered.
