Extreme Jungle Trek in Indonesia 🇮🇩

We escaped the big city of Jakarta in ‪@BuleBolang‬ 's car and headed south to Mount Salak for a jungle adventure.
There's a tiny village near to where we started our trek, so that was a good opportunity to pick up some extra fresh supplies, including ingredients for a traditional Indonesian dish called sayur asam, or sour vegetable soup, that we planned to cook in the jungle.
We also bought some tempeh, a fermented soy product that's very popular in Indonesia.
With huge backpacks full of gear, we were well prepared for several days in the wilderness. The initial plan was to spend 3 days living in the jungle.
I've never trekked with a backpack that heavy before, and I don't think you can imagine how much harder it makes it just to walk on flat ground, never mind up a steep hill. And steep it certainly was. We were taking the most extreme route up Gunung Salak.
It was a slow and steady grind up the mountain with all the weight our equipment on our backs, but as Ryan says "It's better to have it and not need it, than need it and not have it."
It wasn't easy but we made it to Post 3, our planned campsite, just before dusk. We were all looking forward to reaching Post 3 as we were told there was a tap there with fresh water, but no such thing existed. So we had to be conservative with our water supply and cooked food mostly using oil rather than boiling.
Ryan's porter Bang Sam is a master chef in the jungle and cooked up some beautiful cassava that he bought from a farmer at the start of the trek. Some good carbs to replenish our energy. We enjoyed that along with some chicken nuggets and french fries we picked up at Indomaret before we started the trek.
With some delicious dinner inside us it was time to sleep. But I just couldn't. I was sharing a tent with 2 other guys, on hard bumpy ground, and I just couldn't get comfortable enough to sleep. So I just lay awake all night, with the occasional wander around in the jungle in the pitch dark, using just a head torch.
Day 2 started off a bit rough for me, as you can imagine after a sleepless night. However, I was soon freshened up by swimming in the beautiful rock pool that we trekked down to. The water was freezing cold but getting in it with aching muscles, it strangely felt good.
When we got out the water we were treated to the "sayur asam" soup that Sammy was able to cook, as we now had a fresh water supply. We enjoyed that with some "tempeh goreng". Sammy had sliced the tempeh and covered it with a batter and fried it. Delicious!
That's as much as we did on this adventure. Our plans for the full 3 day trek had to change due to a landslide making our planned route impossible. I was kind of glad about that because I couldn't take a 2nd sleepless night in a row.
Next time I go trekking overnight I'm hiring 2 porters to carry a Tempur-Pedic mattress for me. Only joking. Or am I?

Thanks to Ryan for arranging this jungle adventure and making sure we were well prepared. If I had attempted this on my own I likely would have entered the wilderness with just a baseball cap and a can of Coke Zero. Follow Ryan's channel here: www.youtube.com/@BuleBolang

Wise of you to go with Ryan and Pak Sam who know about Salak. A risky jungle adventure you had there. Salak is one of dangerously beautiful mountain. So many trackers got lost while hiking there, mostly because of loosing directions as the tracking path are sometimes covered by grass or bush, and they were just roaming around there till they run out of supplies. Because of that many incidents, there are interesting stories and myths surrounding Salak, including supra natural creatures (spirits and ghost included) which believed guarding the mountain :)). I did encountered the tiny guards while I was there, leeches that was sucking up my blood. You did not mention about leeches, though. I wonder if Scottish man blood is not to their liking :)).

I have to admit dale is the best professional vloger, and boy o boy the content is just to die for! I felt like I was watching National Geographic.... I'll be damned, excellent dale Philip 👏 👍 👌, when your vlog is out I have to switch off the telly 📺! Dale is officially my favourite professional vloger, definitely doing this all is no mean feat by means! Keep it up... 👍👍👍👍👍

Hi Dale from Scotland 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿. That freezing cold bath you had in the jungle certainly invigorated your senses. You manage very well indeed I think on such uneven ground & using your Go Pro at the same time. I have done the Rain Forest & yes after it rained it became harder to stay upright. These adventures though will remain in your memory forever. Great video. Ps you look like you have lost weight Dale. Am sure you are looking forward to a luxury hotel with a comfy bed & room service....who could blame you. Take care.
