You are forgetting about the hidden cost they don’t show !! Disney still needs to payback the investment companies who funded the movie too. These studios have such little faith in their own movies that they cut their exposure by having others invest in their movies which could be over half the production cost or more. Unless the movie hits over a billion then they won’t make much of a return at all.

Ghost seats also factors into it. I think Disney is auto-purchasing those on general principal for anything that opens weaker than they expected.

I’m not sure about that just because there was a lot more hype around Dr Strange. The theater I went to was fully booked. I saw companies taking outings to it. But maybe that’s just where I was.

@@Shawn.Mathew And that’s generally where I think the movie lies. There was hype for the movie especially after Spider-Man and the trailers looked good. Then the story kind of sucked (I remember that the acting was really good though) and made everything in the MCU worse by destroying Wanda and then killing her. Like I get the Scarlet Witch is an insane character but have her go insane about Vision not two kids no one in the theater knows if they didn’t watch some TV show. Don’t even do Wanda Vision and it might have worked out better idk.

I think the three movie box set should do pretty well. You do have to wonder about a lot of the budgets. For example does anyone believe the $100M budget for Oppenheimer (IMAX with that cast even if they were working at below market rates).

@@jimbowlan5804 - Then the revenue side to the studio would need to be adjusted. I am starting to be convinced that we cannot tell what the profitability of any movie is. Starting to wonder about even net income. I guess that is why companies also have to report on Statement of Cash Flows.

The Bob Iger Company is a toxic tree and everything it produces is a poisoned apple. If GotG3 loat money then Deadpool 3 will probably be a flop. The Mouse is dead.

I honestly wonder what Disney finances truly look like without the moving a bank note from one pocket to the other? I'm guessing not good!!

People would laugh at me in comments on other channels when I would mention that GotG3 lost money. These numbers make it seem even worse than I could have imagined.

I may mention that when I had the disney channel I started to watch GG3 and I paused it 25 minutes into the movie,,I guess I lost interest because I didn't finish the stupid thing then I gave up the channel shortly after. Now I hear about the loss, and it doesn't surprise me whatsoever.

Damn. Pro feels a need to take over and destroy the naturally unfolding tale Valiant is trying to lay out, even on Valiant’scown channel . The man just cannot keep his mouth shut. He earned this video clip a dislike.

Valliant was laying everything out and then WDW Pro jumps in with his two flat feet and stomps all over the points that were being led up to. Just shut up and let V. finish!

I can honestly believe they fibbed the numbers. I loved the first 2 films. My father and I agreed these films filled the gap that Disney Star Wars did to ruin that franchise. I lost my dad to Cancer before the 3rd film. He would've (like me) hated how Dave didn't wanna be Drax anymore. He was my Father's favorite in the films (Yondu being 2nd), but that character passed also. Even in the marketing, it just didn't pack the punch. It was a fine film, but just fine. It was passable, but when you know the cast doesn't wanna do it anymore, it just lost something, just like I did. I don't have any present franchise films I would wanna pass to my Grandchildren. Not Disney, not Marvel...the list continues to grow. Sad.

I'm going to say that Marvel HASN'T been profitable since before End Game, Captain Marvel was extremely fishy while End Game I believe ran over budget but the bulk of the money was coming from mech but now they can't rely on mech sales as it tends to sit on store shelves gathering dust!!

Really wish you'd stop having WDW Pro on with you. He just can't stop interrupting and taking over. Has to make it look like he figured it out before the speaking person can finish. He ruins every video he joins. 🤬 Shut the hell up and let Valliant finish!!!

I told everyone before it even finished in theaters…people were mainly weighting overseas boxoffice revenues incorrectly…about the most that can be said about it…is that it didn’t lose as much as Disney’s other films.

Tax write-offs.

I thought Guardians 3 was so-so, which made it a better than the second movie and much better than other Marvel stuff like Thor Love & Thunder and The Eternals, but I'm still not surprised to hear that it didn't do as well as advertised. Thanks!

Rather or not the film actually made little profit, broke even or even lost some money, I’m just glad the majority of audiences liked Guardians 3, like yourself and WDW Pro. It still had some impressive holds last summer and good legs and that can’t be understated.

Guardians 3 is the only Marvel movie I went to see last year in the theater. Probably the last one since the last Spiderman movie i went to see. I didn't see any other Disney in theater last year or this year. I'll go to Deadpool 3, but nothing else is interesting right now.

The issue of interest rates on loans of capital to Disney I would love to know! That would give a better picture of how Blackstone, Vanguard, and State Street have Disney over a barrel!

Its was busy when i seen it. After Thor, a big drop off. That movie was the last jedi of marvel. Also a good movie, which helps futures movies.

Guardians was my favorite. I didn’t even go see the last one. Sad and didn’t want to see it end that way so screw it. If they would have left it open without killing anyone I would have seen it…

This is the 2nd review I've seen where Valliant is explaining and breaking down some intricate numbers of a film's release and WDW keeps interrupting him. Very annoying. It's already tricky to try and follow the financial INS-and-outs of a film and with WDW constant interruptions, forget it. I give up! Please! Just stop interrupting and let the man finish, and then give your feedback.

Am I mis-remembering- I thought GotG3 advertising budget was reduced to promote The Marvels? Or was that Ant Man?

This was a great movie. If it lost money then things are worse than I thought.

Likely the ONLY film from them that deserved to turn a profit(I think marketing costs were exagerated,Like I really didnt see many adverts)In retrospect I think It was a succes but not a giant one.(Some expenses could have been exagerated for tax reasons we know hollywood acounting like they said Bohemian Rhapsody which cost 50 million and made 900+ milion was a bomb when asked to pay residuals....)

Wow, I thought Guardians 3 was the only movie in the last year which made profit, but now! But hey, it´s what the shareholders and investors voted for as they dumb Nelson Peltz and hanging on the stupidity of Bob Iger. And if they manipulated the books, isn't it time for the IRS to audit DISNEY's books?!?!? ANY NORMAL company would have done it if they had signs of manipulation, but not DISNEY? Honest? Shame on you! It´s time that the DISNEY company finally disbanded! The investors and shareholders have had their chance month ago to change things in management and leadership. They didn´t! In the end they love to losing and burning money! And so, if nothing change; the Board still in charge and the overrated CEO too, it would be great if they would close the gates forever. It´s annoying! It´s lame and boring! Disney only manipulate with their ideologies our kids, insulting the audience for their failure and don´t accept any critics to their so called "products" - the movies and tv shows. @@Scifi4life Okay, let's look at it in a broader view. On its own, it made decent money, no question there. Did it do a billion? No. World total---845.6 million dollars Estimated budget 250 plus million. To break even...twice the budget, or some. To gain a profit, it is around 3 times plus the budget. Not added, the extra cost for reshoots if any. Commercial advertising cost not added. Theaters profit cut, the percentage is pretty high. And some other hidden factors I might not be aware of, bites into that profit margin as well ,before something is return back to Disney. That is a simplified formula...but it does broaden the view, did GOTG 3 make a decent profit at the end? And yes I saw the film too. 😏

Pro, you interrupt way too much! Great voice, but you break trains of thought even for the listener.

WDW Pro, will you PLEASE just SHUT THE HELL UP and let the channel owner, TRYING to give their story, ACTUALLY GIVE THEIR STORY! I am SERIOUSLY tired of you INTERRUPTING everyone, even on their OWN CHANNEL. STOP BEING RUDE!

It's him interrupting people to either beat them to revealing info or to "guess" what it means so HE delivers the story, not the channel owner. It makes it hard to follow when he bulls his way in just to hear his own grating voice. He should stay on his own channel and ruin his own videos.

I've seen loads of people say GOTG 3 was the best one, for me it wasn't, I hated it and turned off after an hour. So not surprised it didn't do well.

It did well, Valiant has mentioned it in many other videos. He’s just saying when it comes to the budget. Many films that did well haven’t made a profit. Batman 89 and Return of The Jedi are some examples

I just don’t understand the point or logic behind this video. Because by all accounts GOTG3 was a good movie, in fact a great movie, that Disney did everything right in making and promoting so if it didn’t do well it says more about the economy and cult like behavior of people refusing to allow themselves to have a good time then it does about Disney. Because the question is what did Disney do wrong with this specific movie then…?

Your bias against Disney is clear here. Amazon paid 200 million for a B grade movie the tomorrow war. If you think that they wouldn't have paid 150 mil for exclusive access to Gradians of the Galaxy 3 your crazy. Remember when services buy the rights to a movie they then can farm them out later, this is how Netflix got Disney movies themselves back in the day. Stars had exclusive rights to the movies then they licensed them to Netflix for millions each cycle, they were able to do it until their contract term ended (and this was before there were other services that would surely boost the value of the content.). Likewise Disney has to treat Disney+ as a separate entity or else you would never be able to show profitability or loss of the service. In fact I believe 150 mill for GOTG3 was too cheap so they sold it to D+ cheaply so they could show more profitability of their lackluster streaming service (lackluster by way of profits not content). If the streaming rights then get lent to HBO or another service those profits won't go to the theatric totals they will be attributed to D+ because D+ has the exclusive rights to it.

I’m not so sure you can ignore the amount paid to show it on ABC or Disney+. As a service they would have to pay someone for something to show. It’s like a dealership that trades in a car. The dealership has to pay the service department and maybe parts and body shop to resell that car if they don’t wholesale it. Those other departments still count that as work for or on a vehicle.

No, it didn’t flop. Look, this kind of clickbait titling just makes you look bad. If you think they’re giving you bad guesstimates, don’t pile on your own to suit your own preferred narrative. And the idea that you can’t count any revenues from Disney+ is … strange given it’s 150M global subscribers. The fact that Disney still hasn’t released it to other streamers suggests it’s still a draw for Disney there. Not a Disney fan, as the last Disney thing any of my family saw was GoG3, and we’ve long dropped our sub to D+, but this kind of presentation doesn’t do much for your credibility.

I'm not the least bit surprised, I liked the first guardians and each one after that got worse and worse with 20/20 hind sight, that was consistent with all m-she-u and she-wars products
