Exploring Tunisia - The Northernmost African Country

Watch the missing train hopping part on my Patreon: / vvagabond
Welcome to the journey across Tunisia - the northernmost African country. Inthis video, me and my friend Vyatich continue exploring the North of Africa in search of peculiar locations. During our Tunisian adventure, we visit the ruins of ancient Roman cities, Star Wars filming locations, talk to local people, try their food and just do some random stuff, including the journey to the Northernmost point of Africa.
Timecodes:
00:00 - Tunis - the capital city of Tunisia
05:17 - Exploring Carthage (ancient ruins, local food)
09:52 - A trip to the ruins of Dougga and Thuburbo Majus
15:35 - Mos Espa Star Wars filming spot near Tozeur
19:27 - Riding a camel in Tozeur. Visiting local brickworks and enjoying the evening in Tozeur
23:47 - Riding freight trains across Tunisia
30:47 - Journey to the Ksars of Medenin and Tataouine
34:23 - Journey to El Jem
36:34 - Visiting the northernmost African point near Bizerte (Cape Angela)
Filmed in November - December 2023.

That conversation with the ticket seller near the start was like some Monty Python sketch full of misunderstanding. When the ticket seller said that the train was "working on the line"/"working on the train", he was telling you that there is trackwork on the trainline so you won't be able to take the train to your destination i.e. only the bus will get you there. In the end he gave up on you and let you waste your time on the dead-end train ride. Classic non-native English speakers confusing each other lol.

The German/English conversation with the camel guide was the highlight of this episode. Two people having a bilingual mixed conversation in secondary languages to both. Absolutely fabulous. And the the topics they had. No kindergarten nonsense like ooooh ja de camel is very schön, it trinks a lot of Wasser. No man, they chose natural resources, exports and economy! 😂

"The train ride was shorter than expected" Yeah, the guy you were buying tickets from tried saying that "You can't get to where you're going on the train, because the tracks are currently being worked on. That's why only the bus can get to where you're going directly."

I salute your courage and sense of courage. Although, I would have liked to see also more of the beauties of the country in the vid whether in cities on the west on the border of Algeria lie Tbarka, Ain Drahem,Kef,.. or the one on the coast like the island of Djerba in the south or Mahdia, Sousse and Monastir, Nabeul and Hammamet and also the medinas of Sfax in the center and Bizerte in the north. Hope you had a great time anyway and wish you good luck for your next trips and adventures!

The town is sure "authentic". We rented a car, got pulled over many times for 'document' check. The only good thing about Tunis is the ancient sites, El Jem, Dougga, Carthage... amazing, cheap, not crowded. But, getting there is not easy at all.

The owner of the camel learned a bunch of foreign languages throughout his life, working with tourists from different countries. He told.me that he never learned the language academically, he simply practiced it with his clients (tourists). I liked Tunisian salads, although once Vyatich ordered a salad with the spoiled fish. Aside from that, the food was ordinary, not of the highest quality (we didn't visit expensive restaurants, no comments on this). I didn't manage to finish eating shakshuka and pasta, they were too spicy. In Carthage, we ate good sandwiches with tuna. Mint tea was nice everywhere we'd been.

You hid most of your freight hopping videos? Too bad, those were my favorite. Did youtube give you a strike?

About the train That old train you took drive only few stations (4 or 5 stations) to the north side of tunisia and most of people drive with taxi But the train to the south side is good and looks like european one .. i think was changed in 2010 And abt the mosque That was for the old tunisian president i was built in 2000 to 2003 but it has tunisian architechture And even what you saw in morocco is originaly tunisian but was also more developped in morocco Tunisia has more historical stuff than morocco and also have more influence on south europ (italy sardinia, sicilia and even spain) Since the chartaginian empire Tunisia the first country in north africa became muslim.. the first mosque in north africa was build it tunisia. The first university From tunisia went to morocco to share islam. The old name of tunisia is africa and it was like the capital of africa or north africa Thats the true even if u heard something else Trust me even zelij was made by fatimis is tunisia and developed by ziris in tunisia and at the end it was more developed in morocco by moahidis You are welcome in tunisia ❤
