Solo in Chechnya - The State Within a State
In this video I'm bringing you on the journey to Chechnya - one of the Russia's least explored regions.
Join me on an exploration of Chechnya, starting with its capital, Groznyy. I narrate its recent history, marked by two devastating wars, the deportation of Chechens, and the imposition of a regime intertwined with Kremlin politics. Venturing beyond Groznyy, my journey takes an unexpected turn as I hitchhike to a nearby town, uncovering the hidden truths and tensions lurking beneath Chechen society's surface. Exploring further, I encounter significant landmarks that speak volumes about Chechnya's cultural and religious identity. Along the rugged paths, unexpected encounters with locals reveal the true essence of Chechen hospitality..
Timecodes:
00:00 - Exploring Groznyy - the capital of Chechnya
06:32 - Legacy of Akhmat Kadyrov - the mufti of Ichkeria who turned into the Putin's ally
08:32 - Deportation of Chechens in 1944

That driver was brave to say that to the camera, as well as honest and kind. That interview was a phenomenal insight into the world of Chechnya that I did not know about.

I'm not sure what your talking about ?? Here in America that happens on a hourly rate just look at the cops in Mississippi !! 6 cops tortured 2 black men for hours😢😢 America is a total abomination your saver living under Stalin !!

yeah I really respect that, but I think it would be better if he blurred his face in the video. The chance is slim that he gets into trouble for what he said, but It's still there and better risk anything

I would blur the face of that driver and other people that tell you sensitive stuff. Would be sad if people get in trouble for telling their story. I respect you for putting such serious topics in your videos and hope you continue doing it, but I would really take all possible precautions to not get the people you talk to into trouble.

Hello Ivan! Amazing work on this one! Incredible insights into Chechen life and culture. I wish nothing but peace on the Chechen people. May they prosper and grow.
Thank you again. The Caucasus are one of the most beautiful places on the planet and the people are kind and hospitable.
You have taught me so much with your travels. I only wish you spent more time talking to the people you meet along the way but I understand that you try to show us the most you can within your time span. So many interesting places, especially the remote ones. I'm interested in trains and you always find the most interesting facts and captures of them. Thank you for bringing our far away neighbors a lot closer to me and all of your viewers.
I have heard a lot about this place but this is my first time seeing footage. Thanks from New Zealand 🇳🇿
Congrats on the 140k Vaga. You have earned such a following. Love your adventures.

Amazing journey, thanks for posting. Rick USA.
Very beautiful city and natural scenery. The region looks quite developed, contrary to what many people still think that it is a wasteland. It was quite troubling to listen to the story about abductions, but I am glad you left that in to tell us the hidden costs Chechen people pay by conforming to expected appearance and ideology

Thanks for not being like other creepy filthy tourists who deliberately film women and try to talk to them. I think of Chechnya as a rather harsh and scary country. Thank you for showing us the country and people. The mountains and steep canyons are stunning. No wonder the Chechen people have been so isolated from the rest of the region.

We were isolated because of 'nice' countries nearby, that always destroyed our cities and villiages on the plain)) and we must live in the mountains
