Solo in the country that doesn't exist (Northern Cyprus)

Northern Cyprus is a self-declared state in the eastern Mediterranean that is recognized only by Turkey. It is located on the northern part of the island of Cyprus, which has been a center of human activity for thousands of years.
The history of Northern Cyprus is closely linked with that of the island of Cyprus as a whole. The island has been inhabited since prehistoric times, and has been ruled by various empires and powers throughout its history, including the Greeks, Persians, Romans, Byzantines, and Ottomans.
In 1878, Cyprus was leased to the British Empire, and it became a British colony in 1925. During this period, tensions between the Greek and Turkish communities on the island began to rise. In 1960, Cyprus gained independence from Britain, but this did not resolve the tensions between the two communities.
In 1974, a Greek coup aimed at enosis (union with Greece) led to the Turkish military intervention and subsequent division of the island into two parts: the internationally recognized Republic of Cyprus in the south, and the self-declared Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus in the north.
Since then, Northern Cyprus has been recognized only by Turkey and is considered by most of the international community to be occupied territory of the Republic of Cyprus. The situation has remained unresolved, with ongoing efforts to find a diplomatic solution to the conflict.

My parents owned property in Northern Cyprus until they decided they were too old really to travel so much and couldn't really deal with the summer heat there so much, when they sold they actually sold their place to a Russian couple - there is a fairly large Russian contingent in the TRNC. The big thing with the buffer zone and security is it's mainly about both making sure the Greeks and Turks don't take shots at each other (which happens reasonably regularly) and looting - if you're _obviously_ not doing that whichever unit of the British Army (it would have been 1st Battalion, The Rifles when you were there) that's out there will be relatively chill, the worst case is they'll probably just tell you to leave. TRNC is an underappreciated tourist destination because most (all, really) countries don't have direct flights there, but all you have to do is change at Istanbul and you're good to go - if you like Cyprus but want it less hectic it's the perfect destination, particularly for how widely English is spoken.

Nice video but i really gotta correct a few mistakes lol. Prices are higher in Cyprus due to them being imported from Turkey but to balance that out, the minimum wage and also the average pay is also *much* higher than Turkey itself meaning in reality alot of things feel much cheaper than in Turkey. One thing that's directly cheaper is Alcohol. Alcohol in Cyprus is extremely cheap compared to Turkey due to not being taxed at like fucking 200% values. Also Turkey does sell Alcohol in grocery and convineance stores, only a tiny few that are owned by islamist mf's don't sell it aka BIM and A101, other than those two you can find alcohol everywhere.

Sorry but you seem to be making lots of small errors that tend to cumulate. Some of them are as follows: 1) the plate number system has nothing to do with the one Turkey. It is almost identical to the one in the Republic of Cyprus minus single letter 2) 8:14 the train you are showing is not the only remaining one in Northern Cyprus. Just a few kms away there is a yard full of them and some in Morphou which you'd have passed through to go to Lefke. 3) The prices are not same as Turkey, more expensive. 4) The duration you are allowed to stay n Northern Cyprus has nothing to do with your stay in Turkey. Though an unrecognized de facto state, Northern Cyprus has its own immigration rules and they apply even to Turkish citizens. 5) The mining operations stopped in 1952, not in 1960 when RoC was formed. Other than these points, a nice concise video. It would have been a little smoother run had you added how you traveled between towns. Happy and safe trips =) NB I dunno why you went through the ordeal of coming here via ferry whilst there are frequent flights but I did those ferry runs a lot as well. Relic stuff. =)

you don't really see pictures of the greek primeminister in Cypriot roads now do you? Regardless of any previous animosity facts are facts. Cyrpiots are fine by themselves. They do not want a union with Greece therefore I would also suppose they do not want a union with Turkey either. Turks can have property in Cyprus and they often hold an EU passport too. Can you really say the same for all parties involved? This video just normalizes a situation not very different than what currently happens in Ukraine. When will it not be too early to start filming in Russian occupied zones? This is not a frozen conflict. It is frozen by those who want to view it as such until they eventually seize everything and turn them into hotels. If that is the case and the same happens to Ukraine why do we even bother? Food for thought

Cyprus :A odd experience in January I flew into Larnaca Airport In Republic of Cyprus 🇨🇾 drove towards North Cyprus Via the Pyla crossing point which is in The UK 🇬🇧 Sovereign Base Area So if you are stopped by the Police in that area you could be taken back to the UK 🇬🇧 If you were wanted for a Crime !! So you had a fight in London you left And thought you were untouchable . But you were not . Then you show your passport to a British person and then you Walk or Drive for 200 metres or 600 yards and you are in Turkey. This is 2023. It should not be still happening.
