I stayed in Hilton Head in 2019 and visited the Stoney Baynard ruins and Fort Howell. If I remember the information correctly, the smaller buildings between the main house and the chimney were slave quarters. The chimney was part of a kitchen, the walls of which were torn down by union soldiers to make platforms for their tents.

When I was a kid, I remember a legend surrounding the Baynard family crypt. For a long time, the door on the crypt would not stay on. The coffins inside would lay askew. The crypt would need repair often. Many offered supernatural explanations based on darker side of family history. SC lore is as old as the land it seems.

I've been to Hilton Head, South Carolina one time back in the 90's. You should go to Daufuskie Island. The only way you can get there is by Farrie and you have to leave your car back at the parking lot near the dock of the Farrie. Once your on the Island you can only driving around the island on a golf cart. There's not much to do there. There are private summer homes people have there. It might be fun to explore Daufuskie Island on the golf car or walk around.

You saw a place that used tabby in the basement when you were in Savannah too. I hadn't heard of it until then. Was happy to learn more of it today at the ruins. That red and white lighthouse area looks like a Disney resort. Beautiful. I was hoping that Fort Howell was named for the millionaires on Gilligan's Island. 😜 So neat to walk over the moat. Hilton Head is much bigger than I realized. Thanks for the tour!

I know it was aggravating, but the checkpoints were there to make sure nobody goes into areas to destroy or deface the historic sites. Hilton Head is probably the most secure area in South Carolina! Great video Adam, Hilton Head Island looks really nice. Great winter with blue skies and t shirts. Wonderful lighthouse.
Alot of history in those parts Adam. Thanks for taking us along for the ride.
Another great video, Adam! With all the craziness going on in the world today, you can't be too cautious! They are just doing their jobs. It is really beautiful there, and all the history, I love it!!! 🌼
The bridge over the moat in the woods reminds me of the Dark Knight scene in Monty Python and the Holy Grail! "Just a flesh wound!" LOL! Great vlog Adam... I love these historical places! Safe travels!
Fulfillment of a longed for dream-come-true Adam....to be able to see this place. Thank you~
Thank you, Adam, for my daily dose of happy Wooness! Luvz the way you talk to birds! Words are heavy and if birds could talk they couldn't fly! Happy Day!
This new series of videos and travels are great. Thanks!
This was another hit Thank TDW . Thank you for reading those places onto us. Love to learn
Freedman’s Village is where a many many run away slaves found refuge & could live free. The US Army occupied & held Hilton Head Island pretty early in the Civil War & held it. Allowing the black residents to be safe from the Confederacy. Hilton Head Island has a fascinating history.
Buddy if you ever get depressed about what your doing don't be you keep others from being depressed. Thanks for the effort. me Amigo !
glad you visited this spot. I went fishing near that lighthouse as a kid on vacation about 25 years ago. Thanks for the videos bro!
very nice! My Dad took my Mom to that area years ago, and they loved it! It was their last vacation before he passed away in 2014.
Hilton head has a lot of snooty people there, but the island is gorgeous! Alligators everywhere. I’m glad Adam is there. Hey, check out the Mellow Mushroom pizza joint. Awesome pizza!!!
What a gorgeous view from the top of the lighthouse. So pretty!! ❤️
Love history so thoroughly enjoyed this area. We haven't been to the Hilton Head resort yet so now that we know what's around may spend some time there when we start travelling again. Thoroughly enjoying all your recent travels. All the best the Olson.
Good video. Enjoyed yesterday's tour of the Disney property and today's tour. Very interesting.
That cemetery looked like my kind of place to explore. I love an old grave stone. Very interesting.
I’ve only been to Hilton Head one time but didn’t get to do all of this exploring… thank you for taking us along👍
I love seeing different parts of the states I would have never seen. Thanks !!

Great video . There is a lot to see on Hilton head Island and you have showed us just some of it. thank you
Have to get back there!! Love Hilton Head!! 👍🏻
Interesting to see around this area.Thank you Adam
Good stuff! When I see those informational plaques with the raised letters I picture someone hand painting each letter.
Looks really nice and relaxing 🙂
great stuff Adam, enjoying these travel vlogs!
I want to say Adam the whole area well at least what you showed is beyond gorgeous and the view from the lighthouse was breathtaking and I thought if you were still using it the Majestic would have been great to fly in that area also it’s those awesome placards and you reading them made for one heck of a historical learning experience and this whole day was jus plain fun now with that being said peace ☮️ love ❤️ and happiness to you Adam and I’ll see you on the next Adams Big Adventure wherever it takes you also please be safe out there also thanks for keeping history alive
I like seeing the history.
I don't think I would ever visit Hilton Head, I really enjoyed being avle to see a little bit of the area and hear its history
keep up the great work Adam!
What a great video!! I love seeing your travel videos! You should come and explore Michigan
Live part time right down the road from the fort. Love it here.
Back to work so I'm already a day behind. Great video. It's nice to see you so relaxed and having a home base for a few days.
I love seeing you visit places I have been! That lighthouse is awesome...but a workout! I know it was aggravating, but the checkpoints were there to make sure nobody goes into areas to destroy or deface the historic sites. Hilton Head is probably the most secure area in South Carolina! I love the Gullah history! Don't you love the live oaks? If you do, you should visit John's Island and see the Angel Oak. It's over 500 years old, and it is majestic!
Love it … the area is so pretty
My family goes down there at least 2 times a year from Cleveland, I was waiting for you to finally come!
You should go by Signe's Bakery and get some of their delightful pastries and get their stuffed french toast.
You are just about 2 hours away from Charleston! Lots of great places to visit. Downtown market area, beautiful gardens on Hwy 61, lots of beaches with Folly Beach being a unique community nicknamed the edge of America. Don’t pass up the opportunity if you can visit. Love your videos!!!
Nice vlog Adam. Brought back memories.
