I wasn’t much of a believer in the paranormal until I saw the Grey Man for myself in Pawley’s Island when I was about 11 or 12. I didn’t know the story beforehand but we were staying at a campground and went to walk on the beach at night. I swear I saw a man in a straw hat waving at me from the edge of the water. I turned to my parents to see if they saw him to, but when I looked back he was gone. There was a bad wind and thunderstorm that night and most of the camp sites had things thrown about and broken, but ours was just fine the next morning and clothes still on the line. When I told my aunt what happened later that year she told me the Story of the grey man. I still get chills thinking about it.

I remember the gray man was very heard of during the 1989 deadly Hurricane Hugo that struck the Carolinas. One particular case was of an elderly couple that were walking on the beach in Pawley’s Island a day before hurricane Hugo in 1989, and they sweared they encountered the gray man during their walk on the beach. When the hurricane passed, their house was mysteriously left intact while all the other surrounding houses were torned and damaged. The elderly couple’s house being saved was attributed to their encounter with the gray man. So if you ever do see the gray man, consider it a blessing and listen to him. If you want to know more about the case, look up the old show of unsolved mysteries of the grayman.

The steam is a common occurrence in South Carolina. As the ground heats up in the sun, the wet ground forms a mist as the water evaporates. It's particularly noticeable after a summer rain on asphalt, it's almost fog like in density.

Since that congregation has the new, larger church, it looks like they just either painted over the old sign or if it had been on a piece of something, the sign was removed. I bet if you look at the new church they might have a new sign that says the same thing.

I’ve been to visit “Alice” a couple of times and have toured the Hermitage as well. However Alice Flagg died in 1849 and the Hermitage was still under construction then, so she most likely didn’t die there. There are records of an Alice Flagg dying in Charleston in 1849 with a Dr. Flagg listed as her physician. There were 3 Alice Flaggs, one being a child who died in the Flagg Flood in the 1870s. 😢 It is said that Alice of the ghost story is actually listed in church records as being buried at Belin Memorial Methodist in an unmarked grave. I love the story though and the cemetery and church are gorgeous. The Flaggs of SC are also related to the Vanderbilts. Great video, Mr. Woo!

I live in Downtown Wilmington, can attest there are tons of ghost stories. I live next to a haunted cemetery and right across from the Bellamy mansion, which also has some ghostly tales surrounding it. In the downtown area you can throw a rock and hit several supposed haunted spots, and the historic homes, mossy trees, and cobblestone roads just add to the vibe. Couldn't reccomend visiting enough.

I lived in North Myrtle Beach and moved from the area in 2003. Enjoying your videos of the entire area but not liking how commercialized and crowded it has become but glad to see off season places are still closed. So many changes and not for the good. I loved living there but now in Vero Beach, Florida and more private where I live on the ocean. Pawleys Island is very interesting and used to swim at the south end of the actual island.

The entire coastal sections of South Carolina and Georgia have all kinds of stories like that of The Gray Man and Alice. It's such a special and different place, that such stories seem as though they could be true. Pawley's Island Hammocks are really great. They are pricey but well worth the money. I actually have several of them. They will last for years if you protect them from continually getting wet. You should not leave them out for overnight very often. They are available online. This is such a beautiful part of the country. That word "Contiguous" basically means a several sections of adjoining, neighboring lands make up one larger section. It's a legal and real estate term.

I do most of my night fishing in Pawleys on the bridges and along the canals. There’s definitely an eerie feeling late at night when it’s completely dark and you can’t see anything beyond your battery powered lanterns. Nonetheless I love it, it’s relaxing, the sunrises and sunsets are priceless. My biggest fears are the Noseeuns and tourists speeding by doing 50mph+ in a 25mph.

Love the Gray Man Legend. The Alice legend is a sad story. Thank you for sharing that one and of the ghost dogs. Thank you for letting me tag-along on your Pawley's Island adventure. Your off the beaten path vlogs are great!

another nice vlog Adam, I have watched your videos off and on for many years, lately I have been adding the Daily Woo to "MY" morning cup of coffee. Pawley's Island is an interesting place, I have not personally been on the island proper but I do have a friend who lives there. In light of the recent cold and snow that we got, your video shows just how quick the weather in SC changes...thus the old saying..."if you do not like the weather we are having just hang around for a few hours" your video with the melting ice falling from the majestic oaks and palmetto trees with the clear blue skies is beautiful ! Thanks. Suggestion: check out McClellanville, it is not to distant and is a quaint and interesting little town.

There was someone on the porch while you were filming the Pelican Inn. The person duck down while you were filming. Did you notice it when you reviewed the video?

Love your videos! Hope you're staying warm and having fun out there. I LOVE visiting southeast north Carolina down in the Newport and Morehead city areas. It's completely different from what I've seen here in Oklahoma.

The Grey Man stories have been well documented, in fact there is video proof of him, it’s been shown on paranormal shows. And a couple of people have seen in, the one story was then being at that beach where a couple walked passed him, but thought he was a living person, then a storm did hit hard.
