Exploring Cairo's Largest Outdoor Market | Ataba Market 4K Walking Tour | سوق العتبه في القاهره

El Ataba Market, one of the largest commerce markets in the Middle East, where tens of thousands of Egyptians flock to every day to do their shopping. A sprawling network of streets and small alleys that spread over a vast area of Cairo like a maze, entire city blocks selling furniture and mattresses, transitioning into home appliances, dishware, clothes, books, electronics, and much more. Come explore this market and see raw footage of the streets of Cairo with me in this 4K walking tour.
Welcome to the channel! My name's Gisselle, I'm a budget traveler and have been to 6 out of the 7 continents, visiting 20+ countries, living for some time in Sydney, Australia as well as in Saigon, Vietnam. Another amazing video exploring my beloved Egypt! As an Egyptian who has been living in the US for the past 10 years, your videos bring back so many cherished memories of my homeland. It's incredible to see how much has changed since I left, and your detailed tours make me feel like I'm right there with you, rediscovering the beauty of Egypt. I eagerly wait for each of your uploads, as they provide a sense of connection and nostalgia. Your passion for travel and storytelling shines through, and I can't thank you enough for sharing these experiences with us. I only wish you could post videos more often, but I understand the amount of effort it takes to produce such high-quality content. Thank you for allowing me to reconnect with my roots and experience Egypt anew through your eyes. Keep up the fantastic work!

Comments like this are the most rewarding thing to hear, I'm truly honored I am able to provide that window back into one's beloved homeland through my videos 🙏🙏 I wish I could make videos full time as well, as it really is a passion! But of course, I still have to work to pay my bills, so alas, it is a limited amount of time that I am able work on videos, at least for now. But I am hoping one day that will be a possibility for me, hopefully one day soon! 😅 Thanks so much again for watching Ramy! 😊🙏

    Pro Egypt tip. If you don't want to step a foot in attaba. And get all the cheap stuff their with 10% to 15% higher price. Go to Al Nozha street. Much organized actual stores. No chaotic screaming every 2 meters. No cat calling. No personal space invasion. But i know you are brave and you are here for the adventure. The creepy guy who kept calling you queen really got me worried about your safety. Keep it going dear and stay safe please.

    Your interactions with the Egyptians are the best but we need more conversations with the women. I’d like to see how they respond towards a tourist. It’s just an idea.

  • @Gventures

    @Gventures

    Жыл бұрын

    The issue with conversing with women is that I can't really converse in Arabic, and not as many women speak English as the men. Plus as you can see, the market is dominated by working men, and a lot less women. I am typically speaking to shop owners or someone that is working when asking for directions or something. The people that approach me are always guys, hence you always see me speaking to men. I can't say a whole lot in Arabic so it would be a struggle to speak with a woman unless she knows some English. I would probably walk up, say hi, ask her how she is and then be stuck, my vocab is very small in Arabic. Plus it seems the women are more shy and quite a few don't want to be on camera.

Ataba Market is on my list for October - maybe it’s near Ataba Station? Al Muski area? Who knows! You nearly always end up somewhere interesting in Cairo - even if it wasn’t where you intended. Thanks Giselle, great stuff!

  • @Gventures

    @Gventures

    Thanks Lesley! You definitely have to visit Ataba while here, it's a very chaotic place but one of the most interesting places to get lost in, in my opinion. Dress conservatively to draw less stares (you'll still get them anyway but perhaps a few less 😅) and enjoy! You are correct, Ataba market is near Ataba Station. If you walk towards the market from the station you'll see all sorts of activity. Passing through Ataba market you will end up in Al Moski, and if you keep walking through Al Moski you'll end up in Khan El-Khalili. If you pass Khan El-Khalili you'll run into a major road/highway, if you cross that you enter into the City of the Dead and beyond that, Garbage City, where the Cave Church is located. That would be one crazy day if you did all of that, it would probably be very exhausting as the markets alone are crazy and endless. The markets are one hell of a hectic environment and tons of fun! But be prepared for an onslaught of curious boys and men 🤣

    @@kallleeed Well it's never happened before, and I think the opposite would happen. If someone started grabbing me and I was shouting at him, other people, both men and women (old or young) would create a problem for that person. Just like in India. Bike snatchers are not an issue here, not compared to Vietnam or Central and South America. I think you are under the impression Egypt is a far more dangerous place than it is. Try going to NYC, I lived there for 4 years and saw people getting robbed there fairly often. I've never seen it happen here. Not saying it doesn't happen here, but the amount of times it is happening is disproportionately larger in countries like the US, in Europe, and South/Central America.

    This was hard to watch. You weren't as safe as might think you were. Most of the male interactions weren't as innocent either. As an Egyptian male, I wouldn't dare just walk around these kind of places. If I have to, it'll be as quick as I can and I'm not even that sheltered. I'm middle-class. So aganabiya (a female foreigner) walking around places like this alone is a no go. Stay safe, please.

    🙄Oh I was just fine, thanks. Who said I think they were innocent? I just don't care, they are stupid boys. I've traveled all over the world, Ataba market is not the first market I've been in and it won't be the last. I've also been in Ataba Market PLENTY of times and never have a problem. As well as MANY other local areas such as Garbage City that people tell me to stay away from because it is "dangerous" (though they have funnily enough never been there themselves). I am always fine and many people are friendly (I don't mean the teen boys I mean women and kids and elderly people are friendly too). The guys can talk all they want I couldn't care less.

    😆Oh it isn't? 😆Is that why I have been totally fine, living in Egypt for 2 years and walking everywhere alone all the time? Please speak for yourself. If you don't feel safe walking around alone or cannot be verbally aggressive/rude/loud to someone if you need be, then YOU don't walk around alone, but don't tell me it's not safe for me, because I do it all the time. I have traveled all over the world alone and am always completely fine. And IF the situation were to ever happen where someone was harassing me and I needed help, I have NO problems being very loud and causing a scene, which would then end very badly for the culprit harassing me.

    You deleted the comment already, but I wanted to respond anyway. I didn't say you were wrong, I said speak for yourself. It would have been different if you had said something like "be careful out there" or something similar to that, but to tell me "it's not safe for you to walk on your own" is false and encourages women to be afraid to go out and live their lives, and I do not agree with or like that way of thinking. Your husband is Egyptian and tells you not to go out, well okay, but my bf is Egyptian and does not tell me to not go out alone, and he supports me in my decisions and life. I have driven my motorcycle across the entire country alone, I go to the markets alone, I go to poor neighborhoods alone, I do many things alone and am completely fine. No matter where you are in the world, things can be out of your control, but that does not mean we should live our lives in fear and hide in our houses and not go out alone. I wasn't trying to be rude, but do you know how many men have commented on my channel not to go out alone? I hate seeing a woman say the same thing. We are stronger than that, people are willing to help if there are bad men harassing us, and we should not live in fear.
