    Such wonderful videos Gisselle. I just got back home (the Philippines) after an early visit to Cairo in early June. Such a GREAT trip. Unbelievably cheap the city is, and easy of public transit - the Metro is remarkably easy and fast, and the local busses while not that modern were a great experience as well. Thanks for all you do.

Most rooms do not have a/c, they also have monthly rates which are much cheaper, best to get breakfast or food on the street for more variety, I think it has the best hangout area and best place to socialise. I was there around May to July timeframe in 2022 and we traveled from Cape to Cairo.

    Quite informative vid for the starters in Cairo! You undoubtedly have got a good know how on such hidden gems in Egypt! I'd personally prefer the second hostel if I've got to stay in a hostel. A question for you: How do you see the future of budget travelling in the aftermath of Covid-19?

  • @Gventures

    @Gventures

    Жыл бұрын

    Thank you! Yeah I really like Madina Hostel, I have a lot of friends that work there so I stop by and visit fairly often. I'm not really sure I understand your question...but I'll try to answer it anyway 😅I think budget traveling is definitely still possible, I am doing it, as are many other people all over the world. I think as long as traveling continues to exist (no apocalypse/world famine or something crazy), budget traveling will always continue. Of course, there have been repercussions from COVID. Lots of small businesses sadly went under during COVID. Flights have gotten astronomically more expensive. Economies around the world are suffering right now, and inflation is on the rise all over the world as well. So cheap flights are harder to find, and it takes a lot more digging to find something somewhat reasonable (depending on your location). I tend to travel in countries where my home currency (the US dollar) is strong (so, not Europe 😅). I try to couchsurf or camp or stay in hostels. Eat street food vs. fancy restaurants, and shop in grocery stores for food. Things like that. So in summary, I think budget travel will always exist, but maybe some things have become more difficult to find, like reasonably priced flights. But who really knows what the future holds. Anything could happen.

    My pleasure! But something you should know about Egypt, because you are an Arab national, you won't be allowed to stay in dorms in Egypt 😕You can stay in a private room, but due to the laws in Egypt about men and women sharing private rooms (it is illegal for a man and woman to stay together in a room unless they are married and have a marriage certificate to prove it), the hostels do not allow Arab nationals to stay in the dorms. It sucks. But a private room is still an option...

  • @Gventures

    @Gventures

    I unfortunately don't 😕It's a bit harder to film in the hotels in downtown, because the hotels are more strict down there and will not so easily allow me to film there unless I am a guest. I will say though, almost nothing is within walking distance in Cairo, or even Egypt as a whole! The distances are very large here, and especially with the traffic here, it is more chaotic and everything takes longer. I doubt you will want to walk from each historical area to the next. I would suggest googling how long it takes to walk from one location you want to see that looks close to another, just so you can get an idea. And then add more time onto whatever google tells you, because, streets here 😆 What can be a 5 min drive can be a 40 minute walk. Uber is convenient though, or you can take the metro to some areas of the city and then walk after.

  • @Gventures

    @Gventures

    8 ай бұрын

    Thanks for watching! It comes down to personal preference of course, but I always recommend downtown because I prefer it myself. A lot of people want to stay near the pyramids (wake up and see them and all that, which I get), but if staying near the pyramids is a must, I only recommend 1 night. Because there is nothing else to see in Giza (where the pyramids are). Everything else is in Cairo, and if you stay in downtown Cairo you can get to a lot of the other sights much quicker than battling your way through Giza traffic just to get into Cairo and battle your way through Cairo traffic. You can also just go to the pyramids and then go to any one of the little hotels right outside the main gate and go up to their rooftop to eat breakfast or lunch or get a mango juice and get a view of the pyramids, you don't have to be staying there to do that. I personally think the pyramids area outside at night is dark and kinda empty, just a few beggars and teenagers bothering you. Downtown is full of activity and lots of options for cafes, restaurants or just walking around and observing the life. Some people do complain about the noise in downtown though. I know some people also like to stay in Zamalek, which is a little island on the Nile right by downtown Cairo, and kind of like a bubble compared to the rest of Cairo or Giza. Lots of trees, much more quiet (compared to the rest of the city), lots of foreign restaurants and embassies. It's also a lot more expensive there 😅 I prefer downtown myself. Are you willing to stay in hostels? I never stay in hotels so I only really know about hostel. If you are fine with hostels, these are my recommendations. In Alexandria there is only 1 hostel, it is called Ithaca Hostel. I actually don't love it that much so if you are traveling with another person you may just be better off splitting the cost of a hotel room. Otherwise Ithaca is okay I just think it's a little too much money for some basic accommodation, but they have no competitors so they don't care. In Aswan I really liked Go Inn Backpackers, it's beautiful. I made a video about that place: kzread.info/dash/bejne/e6yfl8OHfda2ltY.html In Luxor, to be honest I'm not really sure. I stayed here and it was fine: kzread.info/dash/bejne/qoZlubmAodispNI.html I would probably stay there again if I went back to Luxor, but I might also try a different hostel just to see if there is something with a little bit more. I'm not that picky and like cheap prices but I also like some sunlight in a room, a good rooftop, etc. so I am willing to pay a little more for that these days. Anyway, those are my hostel suggestions, but if you are traveling with another person do check out some cheap hotels because you may also find something around the same price (split between 2 people) that is nice or perhaps even better. Hostels are nice for the social aspect though (and free breakfast)

    I have only ever taken GoBus to different cities, but I have heard Blue Bus is good too. My bf is Egyptian always takes Go Bus, but he also says he has heard Blue Bus is fine, so maybe they are both equal..? There are different classes of tickets and the prices vary according to class and distance, but you can check out the prices for Go Bus on their website: go-bus.com/?lang=en The metro is pretty easy to use in my opinion (and VERY cheap), but doesn't go everywhere. Uber or Careem is also pretty cheap (especially when comparing the price in western countries), so I suppose it just depends on how cheap you want to travel. I like using Uber motorbike or InDriver motorbike, but I also have my own motorbike and usually drive that around. Thanks so much for watching! 🙏😊

    @@CarlosCruz-vm3di So $200 for 2 nights....$100 a night per room?? Hmm...I think that's a bit high for my viewers 😅 Definitely high for me. But yeah, maybe I'll make a hotel video sometime. Those types of videos take time since I need to visit many different hotels, get the permission (sometimes I need to go back later if the manager is not there to approve me filming when I go the first time), and after filming I need to edit the video and everything else, which of course takes more time. • @Gventures

    @Gventures

    6 ай бұрын

    It seems like you have already visited these hostels. Why are you asking my opinion of Australian if you have already been there? Just to be more clear on the issue you brought up, Holy Sheet doesn't allow Egyptian/Arabs to stay in DORMS, but they can stay in private rooms. And Holy Sheet is not the only hostel that doesn't allow Egyptians/Arabs to stay in dorms, NONE of the hostels I have ever been to in Egypt allow it. Egyptians/Arabs are only allowed to get private rooms. As far as I am aware, that has nothing to do with the hostels rules, and everything to do with the laws in Egypt. You will encounter the same issue if an Arab or Egyptian wants to get a hotel room with someone of the opposite gender (sharing a room-just like dorms), they are not allowed to unless they have a marriage certificate to prove they are married to that person. I agree it completely sucks, I have never encountered a rule or law like this before coming to Egypt, but in my 2 years here I have never been to a hostel that allows Egyptians or Arabs to stay in a dorm, they are always forced to get a private room.

  • @Gventures

    @Gventures

    Жыл бұрын

    I know, it sucks. It's because of the law in Egypt regarding the opposite sex staying in the same room together. Under Egyptian law, Egyptians of the opposite sex cannot stay in the same room together without a marriage certificate (hotels won't allow opposite sex in same room without marriage certificate either), so they don't allow Egyptians to stay in the dorms. Actually, it's not just Egyptians, according to the law in Egypt it's all Arab nationals (whether that be people from Saudi Arabia, Jordan, Kuwait, etc.) that are not allowed to stay in the same room with the opposite sex without a marriage certificate. Foreigners from non-Arab countries do not have these restrictions and people of the opposite sex are allowed to stay in the same room together without needing any type of proof or documents of marriage (my best guess is because foreigners from non-Arab countries are assumed to be non-Muslim, but citizens from Arab countries are assumed to be Muslim.) I rarely see male only dorms in hostels (usually they are mixed dorms or female only dorms), but even if there are some male only dorms somewhere in Egypt, the hostels make this rule so they don't have any issues with the police, authorities or the law. If there was ever an "incident" or a complaint or a rumor it could end in a hostel being shut down and other bad things happening, I believe that is why this rule exists. It's the law in Egypt regarding opposite sex and needing to prove marriage that is to blame for Egyptians and Arab nationals not being allowed to stay in dorms.

    Great Channel!!! I'm visiting Egypt for the first time in September 2023 and i was wondering if you could give me an indication of how much it will cost to catch a taxi/uber from my hotel in Downtown Cairo to Giza Pyramids/Saqqara Pyramids. How much am I expected to pay for a driver from Aswan to Abu Simbel/ Aswan to Luxor stopping along the way at Edfu and Kom Ombo Temples.

  • @Gventures

    @Gventures

    Жыл бұрын

    Thank you so much!!! Well the cost of Uber will vary depending on the time of day and traffic. You know you can check Uber from where you are now and see how much it costs, right? Just enter your pick up location (your hotel in Egypt, for example) and then your destination (Giza pyramids) and you will be able to see the cost. I checked for that just now and it says UberX is 129 EGP ($4.17 USD). Or you can take an Uber Scooter (motorbike) for 60 EGP ($1.94 USD). Honestly, if you want to go to Saqqara Pyramids I would either book a tour, or find an Uber beforehand in the city and negotiate a price with him for the day you want to go to Saqqara. Because trying to get an Uber back from Saqqara is next to impossible, nobody is out that way driving around looking for rides, it's out in the middle of the desert. I would also suggest paying for a tour to Abu Simbel from Aswan and back to Aswan the same day. I know the hostel I was staying at in Aswan (Go Inn Backpackers) was charging like 500 EGP (at the time) for transportation to and from Abu Simbel Temples. It's easier and much cheaper than paying for an Uber to do the same thing. I made a video about Go Inn Backpackers kzread.info/dash/bejne/e6yfl8OHfda2ltY.html In regards to getting from Luxor to Aswan and seeing the temples along the way....I have no idea. I rode my motorbike (as you may have seen). You can try and negotiate with a taxi driver, but he will likely charge a lot. Or maybe there is a tour or something that does that. Or you could go super local (and have a long day) and take microbuses all down along the way. Or even hitchhike. Not sure how much backpacker style of travel you are okay with or your preferred method of travel, but just an idea.

  • @Gventures

    @Gventures

    None of them? Maybe Madina is the quietest....But I don't usually notice the noise myself, so I am not a reliable person to ask, as I never really noticed in the first place, even when first arriving to Cairo. If you are worried about noise I would either stay outside of downtown Cairo (maybe in Zamalek) or in a place that mentions sound proof windows or reviews praising how peaceful and quiet it is. Cairo is not known for being a quiet city and most places in downtown are not going to be quiet, unless it's a fancy hotel with sound proof windows or the like. Noise doesn't bother me so I don't even notice it. Some people complain about the sound of traffic when they come to Egypt, other's about the dogs, others about the mosques. It's just not a quiet city. I've lived in big, noisy cities around the world and am used to it, but I wouldn't suggest any budget accommodation or downtown Cairo to people who have issues with noise. Even the pyramids can be noisy because of the packs of dogs barking at night, but at least there is less traffic sounds there.

    I have found that private rooms in hostels are usually not that cheap, you could probably find a room in a hotel with cheaper prices, not sure about the quality, but you could. I think the reason people like to stay in private rooms in hostels is that they are able to meet people and socialize when they want to, but also retreat to the privacy of their own private room when they want. In hotels or especially in an Airbnb, it's much harder to meet people, of course. I can't tell you what I think a good idea is because I don't know what your preferences are, you have to come to that decision yourself. I prefer to stay in hostel dorms. 16 күн бұрын

    What do you mean store? Like, after you check out? Or are you asking about where you keep it during your stay? If that is your question, keep it in your private room if you have that, and if you are in a dorm room, you can buy travel locks and lock them up. Many people don't travel with large suitcases though. Keep in mind elevators are not always a sure thing in Egypt - that goes for many budget hotels, hostels, airbnb's, etc. Even if there IS an elevator, it doesn't always mean it's working. Usually they do, but there are problems from time to time. But I will say, in my experience around the world, hostels are generally safe (and I've stayed in many, for months at a time over my years of travel). As a precaution, I don't like to leave my backpack open while I'm out, so I always have a travel lock on it just to deter any possible thief in the room (though unlikely, anything is possible), and I also do keep any valuables (like cameras, computer) inside the small drawer or locker they give assign to you with your bed. Also be aware, many times you do need your own lock for that drawer or locker as well. So, it's best to just travel with several travel locks if staying in dorms. Hope that answers your question.

    @@asmarttraveller9576 Ah, I understand your confusion. Let me inform you as to why the rates are higher now. 1st, this video was made 6 months ago, as you can see by the upload date. 6 months ago it was summer, which is not peak season for travel in Egypt, as many people do want to visit Egypt in summer when temperatures can reach 45c in Cairo. If you just checked the rates 2 weeks ago, then it means it's peak season, and prices are always higher during the "busy season for tourism," that's not only in Egypt but all over the world. 2nd, Egypt has been seeing a lot of inflation, and even the cost of things like oil, chicken and sugar are higher than they were 6 months ago. However, as a foreigner coming in with foreign currency, this factor would not necessarily affect you, as the Egyptian Pound has also been experiencing a serious devaluation, which has been happening for over a year and a half. Prices rarely stay the same forever, but like I said, inflation and peak season definitely affected the current price of a room now. Out of curiosity, how much more was a dorm room or private room compared to what I mentioned in my video? I could call them and just ask, but I am wondering what they told you the price was.

    Unfortunately not. I have still been unsuccessful at opening an account, they require different documents and proof of work and letter from HR and some other stuff I can't recall. Silly. I plan to try again soon and see what they say, as I can't remember the exact details of why I was refused last time I tried.
