Exploiting the poor - sex slavery in Europe | DW Documentary

All they want to do is escape poverty, but they end up in the hands of sex traffickers. Women from Romania in particular, sometimes fall prey to criminal networks while seeking a better life in Germany.
And for the most part, the criminals go undetected - because sex work is a perfectly legal job in Germany, provided it’s consensual. But estimates suggest that up to 90 percent of the women are forced into the sex trade. Human beings are a lucrative commodity for organized crime. Compared to drugs or weapons, they cost very little. And they can be sold not just once, but repeatedly, every day. Young women seeking to escape poverty in their home countries end up in German brothels. Most of them come from Romania or Bulgaria. Unscrupulous human traffickers lure them with the promise of a well-paid job only to force them into sex slavery. Some of them sell their services for the price of a pack of cigarettes. This sexual exploitation is facilitated by a law that legalizes sex work in Germany, defining it as a service provided voluntarily. It’s not clear just how many women are coerced into the trade. Sascha, for example, was forced to serve 20 to 30 clients a day, until she managed to escape with the help of "Amalie”, an advisory and support service for women in the industry, based in the German city of Mannheim. "Amalie” provided her with accommodation and a job so that she was able to build a new life for herself.

40 clients a day. If that’s an eight hour day, that means a new client every 12 minutes. It’s incomprehensible. The people fighting this exploitation and helping the women are heroes. Pure and simple. Heroes.

Who are victims? I don't think there are victims. those female sex workers did and do that because they thought they could earn much money faster by this way than via the regular work. That is the same things young women thought before entering in the porno industry at age of 18 or late without being forced. Whatever sex workers in this video told you, don't believe them!

So many Romanian girls were lured into Italy to work regular jobs, empty promises by corrupt individuals only to end up shoved into the streets to work as prostitutes or high-class escorts (same thing to me). People tend to believe if we are from a poorer country they can take advantage in any shape way or form because they have a right. As a Romanian, this breaks my heart in ways I can't express. It is very controlled exploitation with different tiers, so once you're in it's almost impossible to leave. I was told some of the girls were terminated and you get the point by "termination" when they wanted to leave or actually attempted to leave. I just have to stay candid because it is youtube after all.

i teared up when sandra said ''when youre raped, your soul is raped too. i struggled with myself whether i was good enough to be loved, or if i was only here for this one thing'' crazy how all her life she was exposed to rape that it vanishes every bit of self worth she has as a person. almost like they made her think all she was worth was for sexual work. i cant imagine the amount of trauma and terror she and her mom had to go through. im so sorry i was not there to protect you, this is a sick world we women live in, sandra i wish i could give you a tight hug. we are so sorry we failed you like this, this should not happen to any human being

I don't know who is worse, the pimp or the clients? How is it that none of all those male "clients" could detect that she was probably doing this against her will? But they all continue to not only get 'in the mood', but they go ahead in actually performing the "sexual act"? I mean 20 clients per day and not even one, noticed that something was wrong and tried to help in some way? I want a documentary interviewing these evil nameless "clients"... It is a shame that this demand even exists.

@@Cortesevasive In that interview, she said, most of the money goes to the pimp, of course, if it did not, then he would not go through the illegal trouble to set it up. The interviewed lady or ladies are just a few of many, you can not honestly believe that all the women in the sex industry are all lying about sexual abuse, and they are all doing it because they all had options, but they willingly enjoy having sexual relations with strangers. That sounds ridiculous to me.

I read a news article once about men that used prostitutes and left reviews. Some of them said "She said she was still in pain from the last client, the sex was awful, I want my money back" or "She looked 18, wrote something that said 'help me' on a piece of paper, what was all that about? The sex was okay". It was the most harrowing thing I have ever seen. Evil is abundant and knows no bounds.

Poor souls.😭😭 Ive gotta admit when I was younger, I listened to what my community think of sex workers. They paint them as the evils and isolate them. But when I was growing up I watch more and more documentaries and women issues and got to understood stories behind one's action. Wether it be crimes or prostitution. I am an introvert and in some way an advantage because I listen more than I talk. So these kinds of stories just hurt me yet strengthen me. I become more dedicated in empowering fellow women and educating more and more people. Its just that communities who blames victims just need to understand what is really going on, if most people in the world understood this then I believe it would be the start of a wonderful change.
