Experimenting with Charcoal and Graphite in Vintage Realism

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

This video is packed full of tips using charcoal and graphite together. It was really fun experimenting with graphite and charcoal to create this vintage realistic piece.
The cool thing about using the charcoal with the graphite is that you are able to get the really black blacks without the shine you get from the softer/darker graphite pencils like 8B or 9B.
Let me know what you think of the video and if any of the tips were helpful.

Great video Wendi and very informative. Including the charcoal in this drawing, would it have taken less time to finish it than if it was all done with graphite? I must say using the toned paper and white charcoal gives the picture a lovely lively look to it. Awesome!

Thank you. Really appreciate that. Charcoal moves much easier and faster than graphite when you want your darkest darks. Because of the blending. Takes a bit of getting used to but I also love the fact that there’s no shine. I usually don’t mind the shine but I am really liking it without so definitely something I will explore more.
