Exocrine Pancreatic Insufficiency, or EPI

Exocrine Pancreatic Insufficiency, or EPI. Here’s some decent and simple to understand information about a funny little condition of such a cute little organ! …. In real life, I don’t think the pancreas is NEARLY as cute as the little cartoon guys make it out to be… very sad times.

I get ads about EPI all the time on the radio telling me to ask my doctor if I have greasy stools.

I lost three cats to EPI--a mama and two of her grown offspring. They didn't have symptoms at the same time. Unfortunately, they weren't diagnosed correctly. With the last kitty, the vet did a necropsy, and that's when they realized what happened. I was told back then the condition was extremely rare in cats. Even though, this occurred over ten years ago, it still hurts to know my kitties could have enjoyed a normal lifespan if I had only known all I needed to do was add the pancreatic enzyme into their diets.

On my third dog with pancreatic issues. After the first, who almost died from pancreatitis I am cautious about food. Cooking for the first for more than 7 years was difficult, I could not include any fats or oils, his skin suffered. I believe commercial dog foods, plus giving processed human foods is to blame. I am concerned about trying to cook for our current dog as i want to include what he needs and exclude grains but it isn't realistic. I have not found a vet approved recipe i was comfortable with, they are all over the place! He is on a Hills prescription food and it is pricey. When i was a kid we had a weimaraner, mom made him steaks, burgers, scrambled eggs and if she used a commercial food it was Alpo canned food. 😮 He lived a long life with no stomach issues.

Hi .... a roadside dog that we feed came to our home yesterday and he was hurt as if he's been hurt by a car or scooter.. he vomited twice I gave him a few biscuit to eat and a few hours later I fed him rice and chicken he was not able to walk with one of his leg and today he seems only resting but his head or u can say face was pulsating. We check the symptoms for brain damage but it was none . What should I do ? As we cannot afford to take a roadside dog for private expensive treatment. He did apply some pain reliever that we had for dogs please reply

take him to a shelter, they may have resources to help him. Or, go to a clinic called Anicira. they have multiple locations in the US. they are a nonprofit that offers low-cost or no-cost medical care to pets in need. Or, you can also apply for Care Credit in order to pay the vet bills at your local vet. Please take action, this sweet soul’s life depends on you!
