the best takeaway from this night was that chen literally said "music is not a competition" at the most prestigious awards show during some of the worst fanwars that have ever happened. they see what goes on, they know about all the issues, and they always speak up instead of ignoring it and try and keep exo-ls in line and focusing on whats really important. i love them so much

thats good to know I was so active voting like til last sep 2020 now I'm unable to vote cause my phone was damage but maybe by the end of this month my new phone will arrive... even exo isn't complete as of the moment lets continue to show love and support to all exo members...fighting exol's

December 1, 2017. It's been almost 3 years since MNET made EXO and EXOLs cry from all the disrespect and mistreated they got. - Staffs confiscated EXO-Ls lightstick where it's obviously they're trying to give EXO a black ocean and turned off EXO's lightstick while EXO performing. - Securities harrassing EXO-Ls and pulled them using a barricades. - Ignored EXO in whole cooking show. - Got robbed to their supposed to be their awards infront of their faces. "EXO-Ls don't cry! We already won daesang, please don't cry." - Baekhyun They are not crying because they won Album of the Year, they cried because it hurts them seeing EXO-Ls crying at the venue. They obviously knew what was happening that day. This is the most traumatic and heartbreaking event. But still EXO did the 90 degrees bow to thank everyone. I can't never forget how MAMA treated EXO. Never. INDEED AWARD CAN BE STOLE, BUT NOBODY CAN STEAL GOOD ATTITUDE 👑

I remember that a host or maybe it was someone else before said this after they saw EXOL's and EXO crying that I know your all disappointed I am too and that he saw kyungsoo and the rest of EXO crying backstage and that just made me madder and sadder EXO was crying because of THE UNFAIR TREATMEMT. Even Kyungsoo who barely cries cried that night and Baekhyun gooodddd Mnet is deserves what's coming to them. Baekhyun kept saying dont cry EXOL meanwhile they cried and that just broke me... I also remember EXO saying they will protect EXOL after the awards and that's when they stop going to awards show.

Tbh there was 100% other things that went on behind the stage that night with EXO, there were a few instances where the members had come back from backstage and they looked shaken up and very uncomfortable that night and I remember hearing that superjunior members had to comfort them backstage because they were so upset. I don't know if it was to do with other artists, staff or higher ups in the industry and award show but even this video will never show the whole story. I'm glad SM stood by EXO for this and cut Mnet off after this. In my opinion, that day was almost like a turning point in EXOs career and for EXOL too. EXO members have never been particularly concerned with awards but this sort of set in stone that the members would completely stop caring about that stuff. It wasn't worth it for themselves and their fans and they knew that.

Perfectly said. Chen said it best. Music isn't a competition. One should make music and listen to music simply because they enjoy it. Also, music, at least current music, is not something that can be measured to determine "the best". It is entirely subjective, based on popularity, and ultimately how well your company promotes/d you. Not going to go into a rant on that. I am just saying, there is no decisive way to say "MY group is better than YOUR group". Cause these awards, heck ANY award for the arts, is always going to be determined on opinions and tastes. I am so glad that I stan EXO. The awards were meaningful to them in the beginning, but I don't think they cared that much for them as time went on. It's always been about the fans for them, so if the fans aren't happy, then the group isn't happy, and if the award show isn't making ANYONE happy, then it is best to avoid it at all costs. So let the angsting, angry, foul-mouthed fandoms of the "top" groups have their awards and their "popularity". I only want to support my group of gifted dancers, rappers, and gorgeous VOCAL GODS!!

Of course I don't doubt the members enjoyed winning awards and being rewarded for their work but by that point in their careers anyway they had basically solidified their place in the industry as a legacy act who would always be remembered for being a top boygroup. As far as the judgement of award shows go, I don't particularly think that they are held in high regard by the Korean general public anyway. It's mostly idol groups awarded which doesn't (usually) reflect the opinions and taste of the public anyway. So by that point, EXO didn't really need the awards (a legendary group by then), the awards weren't worth a whole lot (award shows losing prestige in the last few years) and it was a mental strain on both fans and members. The most logical step was to stop attending and it was definitely the right choice.

This is true. Super Junior are supportive of all their junior artists in the company, but they were paying particular attention to EXO that day. Probably because they saw the signs early that the award show was going to be a mess, based on their experience with MNet before, and they were watching the members of EXO to make sure they were ok. There are hilarious fancams with the SJ members and Taemin up and cheering on EXO's performance like family at a school event, and footage of just before it was announced they won the award how the SJ members were putting comforting hands on them or hugging them. That day all SM family fans were hurt and feeling for EXO.

I agree. I think it’s just insulting and it hurts us when we work so hard to give a gift to our idols and get completely robbed out of it. It’s just so insulting and sad... not only did we waste our time but we had our hopes up and just to be robbed like that hurts.

Last year, Chen was nominated as Best Vocals of the Year. I was warned by my co-exols not to seriously vote for him because in the end it would be manipulated. Before the end of the voting, Chen was ahead with huge gap of the voting and I was confident that he would win but guess what? Right before my eyes, Chen lost the category. Literally, i cried because i was really heart broken. From that day, i promise to myself not to Vote for any nomination of EXO esp for MAMA.. MNET is a blood sucker.. Thats why big entertainment companies such as YG, SM & JYP doesn't want their artist to be there because that Awards night are full of magic.

Am really proud of people who are with EXO since the beginning and I made a promise to myself to be with EXO for a lifetime.. One of the best things SM did was to boycott MAMA at that time. MAMA is rigged. Facts only. No lie. SM vs MAMA already happened before actually (because of what happened to Girls' Generation in 2009 If I remember it correctly). SM just started to attend MAMA shows again in year 2011 then decided to boycott the show again after what happened to EXO in 2017. That year was so heartbreaking for us ExoLs. Not only MAMA, other awards shows did them dirty as well 💔

Tbh voting shouldn't only always rely on the size of a fandom either. it creates an unfair advantage for groups who really deserve awards but don't win cause of their fandom size. Awards should be based on skills and talent. Of course there should be some based off of fan votes but not all, it becomes unfair and biased and will create less stress for the fans who have to compete with bigger fandoms.

Literally THAT YEAR was Exo´s concert. Especeally when they perform Power you can see so how different idols stood up and sang along with them. The other artists knew what was happening and they supported EXO. In the reactions Red velvet, NCT, Super Junior, Taemin (SM) were singing and supporting and even Got 7 (from JYP) stood up.

Let us not forget that kpop industry is also a platform of political battle and anomalies. Dragging BTS in this topic is irrelevant. Those who are saying that Bts only started soaring high because of exo controversies are obviously blind. Bts debuted in 2013 and struggled to promote their music for years. Yet, they stayed together continued their passion against countless criticisms right up to the point of choosing to disband because their agency was nearing bancruptcy. And during those struggling years, exo and other seniors groups are bagging awards and victories here and there while bts watch in the sidelines with hopeless faces so why and how bts achieve their status right now? It's because bts, bighit and army fandom never gave up. Failures only fueled them to strive harder. If you are a fan, you don't give up voting or leave the fandom just because you think something isn't going right anymore. Reflect and remind yourself about the real purpose of fandom. What made you love your fav group. And what can you contribute to support the idols that inspires you. Overall.. all i want to say is.. Don't feel bitter watching other idols achieve an enormous fame over your chosen idols because it is "collective effort" that amounts to stardom. Learn from this: Bts became legends because of the members' immense talents and fighting spirit , the fandoms collective and consistent effort. Lastly, Bighit cares and loves their artists sincerely. Stop spreading false interpretations about bts achievements. Raise an argument and fight with Mnet, MAMA etc, but leave the idols alone.

that day was tense, I witnessed everything, it's still a dark day in the history of exo and exols EXO also never perform his comebacks on mnet, releasing only videos produced by SM itself and by kbs, which makes me very happy At the end of this MAMA 2017, the boys waited for the other groups to leave and then bowed 90 degrees to the exols for a long time, I think as an apology and thanks for supporting them.

Mnet's MAMA stands for M-Mnet A-Asian M-Manipulation A-Awards Honestly EXO and EXOL's are better off without this stressful award show, it turned to shiz after 2015.

All of this problem was beginning in 2008 when mnet asked SM to become their distributor to promote SM’s artists. At that time mnet have already held 3 big companies of music in Korea like JYP ENT, YG ENT, and DSP ENT, and if SM also agreed to join, mnet will become the biggest distributor for music programs. BUT as you know SM rejected that request because SM was confident in promoting their artists. And from that day Mnet was boycotting every SM’s artist song, like in other music show SM’s artists like Girls Generation’s Gee was winning in every music chart exception for mnet. Relationships between SM and Mnet get better, I think when 2011-2012 because all of the SM artists were performing in a mnet music show but in 2015 mnet, was being naughty again for like can’t do the voting for EXO. And it's becoming the worst case in 2017. But Mnet got their Karma for the case of Produce idol Show🙂 So it’s all about time😊

Nooo, this Mnet issue only went down after 2016. Mnet blocked all opportunities for SM artists to win. This is why they don’t have PAKs. Only RV has a PAK and that too just one. Mnet effed with SM big time.

What I meant was that the Mnet debacle never really cooled down until after 2016is - 2017 when SM Artists completely boycotted the shows. Before that all the way from 2009 to 2016, no SM artist ever had a PAK except for RV, and that too only one.

Many fans have said the same thing about Super Junior. They like to say that they’re not popular anymore & thats why they’re not going anymore and shit like that but after being in the industry so long you realize how shady it is and how its just not worth it. Yeah, they are young, ignorant, and uninformed. They don't need to look deeper so they don't. They don't realize that the reason their group is raking in all the awards is because any of the groups that could have competed with them aren't attending anymore. SM and YG didn't want to sign a contract with Mnet, which is why they are treated like garbage. Big Hit is most definitely in that bed full of snakes (Mnet) and they are able to take all the major awards (which they never allowed EXO to do when they could have easily done it for YEARS. They started dropping their albums later and later, so they would miss the awards season as well. Let those fandoms think what they want. They like to boast about their group having the MOST daesangs, but I have to believe that a lot of those awards are bought and paid for by Big Hit. When you are the teacher's pet, you tend to get ALL the attention. What I DO know, is that the awards that EXO has, were EARNED, since they were grudgingly given to them. I am glad that EXO doesn't attend anymore. Award shows are nothing but a popularity contest and a rigged one at that. It is stressful for the fans, stressful for the artist, and BORING for the artists (seriously, they ALWAYS look so bored). I respect all of the groups in Kpop, they work so hard, but the fandoms need to chill, and the corruption needs to take a hike.

I couldnt bear to watch MAMA that day, I turned off the tv. I didnt finish watching it till this very day. What's the use in voting if in the end they ignored the result. EXO didnt attend any award shows was the best for me. It's ok they didnt get any award as long as no one hurt them.

Honestly speaking, I don't really participate in voting since MAMA 2017 not because I don't trust our fandom, not because I'm lazy, not because we're weak, but because EVERYBODY HATES EXO TO BE ON TOP, THEY HATE THE FACT THAT DESPITE OF THEIR SHITTY ACTS EXO IS SUCCESSFUL AND STAYS ON TOP, before I rent other EXO-L's account to vote on different platforms cause they were not able to vote, but when I saw their (EXO) face during MAMA 2017, it cause trauma to me, so much trauma, EXO really won in ALL CATEGORIES but ONLY took 1 award home and that's ALBUM OF THE YEAR Award. I was watching it LIVE and I was literally crying while watching how EXO cry. Despite of what they've done to them, EXO still gave respect and bowed 90 degrees, indeed AWARD can be STOLE, but NOBODY can steal GOOD ATTITUDE. I just begun to vote again when EXO was nominated on Choeaedol and other voting app this year 2020. It's my first voting ever since that traumatic event happened.

Thank you for reacting to this! 🙂 This was the saddest and disappointing night for EXO and EXO-Ls. Years have passed but the memory and the pain is still here. But I'm thankful I stan the right group-being the best boys that they are-keep reminding us that award won't matter to them anymore as long as we are safe (bcoz they don't want anything harmful to happen to the fans like that night). Anyway, EXO doesn't need to prove anything to anyone anymore. They already PROVED that they are the BEST. And that's all that matters now.

Mnet is the reason why YG and SM don't go to MAMA anymore. BIGBANG's G Dragon even rapped at MAMA's dissing the award show itself because of how unprofessional MNET was. Ever since then, anything with MNET, fans are just so disgusted with them. Actually recently, Mnet made a reality show for NCT which is NCT 2.0 and honestly a lot of fans including me were like ????? Just because of their history with SM (I know its NCT not EXO but I feel like its SM in general)

@@laem2015 As far as I know, GD didn’t target EXO specifically since he mentioned MAMA’s event producers and mama in general about handing awards to his children so they don’t fight. Even if it was dedicated to EXO, that was not my point. I’m not a hardcore V.I.P so I’m not entirely sure if he was rapping to exo since that was around 2014 right? Point was, MN3T doesn’t just fk one group over...they have no shame in disrespecting large artists like BIG BANG as well.

I was one of those people who diligently voted and excitedly watched the livestream. You could just imagine how shocked and confused I was when EXO were not being pronounced winners for the categories I thought they had in the bag. Even a group that just debuted barely four months before won Best Male Group over well-loved groups (btw, they were formed in an MNet survival show now embroiled in rigging controversies ...no hate, but fishy). My heart aches for EXO and my co-EXO-L’s. That’s why we all have to give them extra love and support all their projects, even in their personal lives. Yes, even if they enter relationships, get married, and have children! 🥰

As an EXO fan from debut that would spend hours of my day voting and doing so legitimately at a time when we were collectively known as voting monsters this was a heart breaking night. I've never loved any group the way I love EXO. I remember waking up early 2 nights in a row to watch EXO and then on the second night as we learned every single detail that was coming out I vividly remember just waiting for EXO to perform to stop my stream. I remember being on Twitter and Weibo and even seeing Sehun comment on posts. I remember every award being announced and nothing coming to EXO. I remember Asia Style Award being given and the ticker showing EXO as #1, but losing. I remember feeling this horrible anger in the pit of my stomach and when they won their only award I remember sobbing. I cried so much because I was frustrated and angry at everything that had happened throughout the night. Not because they'd only won 1 award, but because it felt like we'd been slapped in the face and then they turned on EXO and slapped them too. It felt like we had done everything right and everything we could for our boys and we had still let them down. That night still vividly lives in my heart and mind because it was the moment I decided I would never vote for any MNET awards knowing what they would do to EXO again. Sometimes fans get upset about some of us not voting, but when living through that moment and seeing everything that happened it's difficult to ever think that they would play fair. SM and YG have the right idea tbh. MNET is problematic and had been before this situation with EXO.

I can still remember when EXO Overdose mini album won Album of the Year. The year after that, MAMA changed the criteria for AOTY. It needs to be a full album to win the award. We all know, not just EXO but also some other groups deserve to be treated better. Mnet doesn't deserve all the great performances and popularity

Fandoms from other groups should take the time to watch this video and understand why SM no longer send their groups to MAMA. No, it's not because of Flop as many say , it's out of respect for the artists since I'm sure that if your group suffered what EXO suffered, you wouldn't want it to go to those awards again..... EXO and the other SM artists are still great!!!!

Well D, I saw the title and didn't know if I wanted to go through this again....I've been watching the MAMA"S since 2012, and I looked up to Mnet, this is the Asian Grammys for God's sake....I wasn't watching to see only Exo, there were always fantastic performances by other artists that blew me away and I always looked forward to them...even American artists like Stevie Wonder and John Legend and others have been guest performers over the years...when this fiasco happened.. I remember especially back in 2014 Kyuhyun was nominated for male solo artist of the year and we voted so hard and by the end of the voting we saw the results and kyuhyun had won. When it came to announce the winner live they gave jt to someone else. As an sm stan, it was such a horrible night both in 2014 & 2017. I’m so glad that SM boycotted. They treated SM so dirty. Mama awards is shit, but don’t even get me started on Golden Disk Awards & how they treated Super Junior. That’s on a whole different level. Let me just say that they actually banned them from winning more awards cause apparently they won too many.

I remember that day, out of almost 7 votings, Exo won all of them all daesangs but on the award day they gave Exo only one award, they even showed Exo's name as winner on the screen but still announnced the other group. Chanyeol's ost was the winner with a huge gap at voting but they still gave award to second one. They have no shame, they are cheating looking you in the eye. In 2016 mma some fans left the arena after Exo won artist of the year award they let them go but in mama 2017 they harrased Exols for leaving due to mistreatment to Exo. They gave Exo a short time to perform and they should've put exo to the last but even rookies performed after Exo which is soo disrespectful. And yet they still announnced Exo the last cause they know they have ratings thanks to Exols. Mama is on popularity's side not on justice.

It's sad to say, but MNet is not in the business of making fandoms happy. They are in the business of making money!!! They don't give a damn about how the fans feel, or even how the groups themselves feel. As new and upcoming groups become popular, the current favorites will be pushed aside just like SoJu and EXO were, and other groups before them who were pushed aside to make room for them. BTS will be next to make way for someone else. That's the way it works unfortunately. It's crushing for us who are fans of these groups, but there it is. MNet IN THE BUSINESS OF MAKING MONEY, PERIOD. The groups need to keep their heads up and keep producing music, forget about these idiots, and just concentrate on their fans. We need to be grownups, support all the groups, applaud their hard work, and thank them for sticking it out. Fan wars are ridiculous. All these artists are friends and are known to each other. There's no sense in blaming other groups when they have no control or say in what the corporations do. Just stick by them and encourage them ,and we should encourage each other to be good fans and support KPop in general. We don't love them because they win awards, we love them for the music they produce and the way they make us feel. Let's concentrate on that, okay? This, every era has a popular group but popularity starts to fade away at some point and the companies such as Mnet, SM or others, start to ignore "old" groups and focus on younger ones to make them more popular. When this happens a lot of fans leave the fandom because there are a big amount of them that don't support groups for their talent but because they are popular, that is the reality. At some point the whole business of music and fans affect the singers and artists and just the most loyal fans stay with them. Sadly, we live in a society that just find something valuable if it's popular and has many awards and we start to get obsessed with all this stuff and confuse this things with talent and we use this to degrade others when it isn't the most important thing, what is really important is releasing music that the singers want, being happy, making memories, etc.

YOU DON'T KNOW. To clear things out let me tell you a story or more like a nightmare - DECEMBER 01, 2017 EXO were not fine since they stepped on the red carpet. Exo-Ls were not fine since they entered the venue. The disrespect was on another level. Chinese Exo-Ls were beaten by the staffs that wanted to take their lightsticks away (even though ligjtsticks were allowed) and they were mad and disappointed and fckn angry and everyone in the fc knew what happened. Exo knew too. Sehun went on weibo during the ceremony and read all the things cherries were writting. Their stage was cancelled and then moved earlier and they didn't know until they arrived there. Other stuffs of Mama turned off the Mnet lightsticks during Chanyeol's performance (imagine if exo'ls didn't have the aeribongs that those staff wanted to take away). They were pissed and mad and seeing them on stage like this was not something we'd seen before. Even Baekhyun had a numb face. During speech, he asked us not to cry because they received a big award and laughed. That was sarcasm at its finest, if you know him, you get him. Minseok lowkey told mnet they can't stop them no matter how hard they messed with them AND Chanyeol was crying... like he usually DOESN'T, and not because he was super happy and excited, he really didn't expect anything good. He was grateful and he felt sorry for us. They knew the fans wanted to leave but stayed and cheered for them. Yes, we're stressed over a month for nothing. I became myself an exol last year shortly before Obsession era and this video is a must to see. Music awards shows stopped being interesting once Exo decided that enough is enough and please don't take this as an attack to anyone I genuinely respect all groups bc theyre all unique and great in their own way. But facts were there, nobody wants this kind of treatment and I really hope no group and fandom will ever go through the sh!t Exo and exols had to that night. Music should be about celebration, positivity and good vibes but there will always be a group of people who will ruin it. Love & support the group your heart tells you to. I remember getting excited because it was my first time seeing exo at MAMA when I first joined the exol fandom and I didn't know much about MAMA other than its the most awaited award show. I always watched exo' previous performance from years before at MAMA and it AMAZING so I was hyped about 2017 MAMA. What did I get at the end? Never in my life have I cried so much and be so angry over something like this. However, I'm still glad to be an Exol ✊🏻

And another thing, there are so called "entertainment companies" who want to limit the name Exo in the US, they pay to not have Exo music enter the mainstream, even as another kpop band beside Bts...radio stations have been hushed by them even when American producers discovered Exo's talent and music as some of the catchiest pop music ever and try to push Exo to be recognized....some big wigs somewhere are trying to stop that. It's highly suspicious...a discussion on why is Exo not played in the US in Rolling Stone eluded to manipulation of airplay, and favoritism is encouraged....which only means money talks. I think that's so unfair.

That might be SM fault not Bighit or any entertainment companies in America BTS barely gets played in America and they are signed to Columbia records who do the minimum to promote them in America so check your facts for years Army have been sending gifts etc to radio stations to have BTS songs played the only time BTS got major radio play is with dynamite and thats why they got a #1 single because it was in English America radio stations are xenophobic in general towards any Asian artists including BTS,Blackpink etc

By now, I think everyone knows that all year-end award shows change their criteria the last minute whenever EXO is at the top lmao. Everytime they do it, they just prove more that EXO is still unbeatable

I would suggest you to react to the Melon Music awards 2017 cause it was 1 day after Mnet did this and the fandom went crazy to support exo after seeing what they had been through (you could barely hear them sing cause the crowd went nuts for them and the venue was 90% exols)

And yeah ever since that day no SM artist has ever been associated with Mnet but recently WayV went to MAMA 2019 and NCT 2020 is having their show on Mnet too so we’ll see...

the fact that mnet continues to steal ideas from sm groups like for example nct now..
