It definitely felt like in the movie that a lot had been left out. The pacing was really weird and it would cut from one event to another really quickly without a clear indication of how we got there. I suspect that's honestly because like half the movie was straight up missing.

Historical movies are not for everyone. Director shouldn't been disappointed and decided to shorten the movie when some people from festivity criticised it as boring. They probably expected something like a massive monster attack in first 5 minutes and the guy with six packs fights to save the humanity type of action movie. Yeah, that wouldn't be considered as boring right? This movie should've been 3 hours at least or even seperated into two movies. We definitely lack of good quality historical movies and this had a great potential.

For everyone saying "I can't wait for the director's cut" the one on Netflix IS the director's cut. When it premiered at TIFF Mackenzie admitted that he rushed the editing to make the festival deadline. It wasn't the critics that led him to re-edit the film, he himself knew it wasn't working. So when you guys say, "why didn't they keep this in the film?" you have the realize the context of the scene within the film as a whole. www.indiewire.com/2018/11/david-mackenzie-interview-outlaw-king-netflix-new-cut-1202019000/

Editing error in minute 1:35, suddenly Robert The Bruce appears without the shield on his back. Then the same thing happens with Douglas. Anyway it was a good scene, with a creative vision of the author to be able to include "the cave and the spider", in the story of the film. ( inaccurate ), but is just a film not a documentary.

5:02 for those wondering why Robert The Bruce is focusing on spider and its web its because the Real Robert was said to have escaped into a cave and he finds a spider web. For whatever reason he he destroys part of the web and the spider rebuilds it, he destroy it again and the spider rebuilds it again. Eventually he sees this as the spider never giving up and always rebuilding its web and so he decides that he needs to do the same with his Kingdom / Lands/ Country and that no matter what he needs to keep fighting regardless how hopeless it seems . Or in other words be like the spider always rebuilding its web no matter what happens

How on earth did the Bruce and Douglas let all those guys in heavy armor and chain male catch up with them in a run? Can tell none of them have ever been chased for their lives before. Guess thats why it was deleted.

Part of the mythical part of Bruces story is he is inspired by the tenacious efforts of a spider to keep trying.

The very first account of Robert the Bruce was written by John Barbour during the reign of the Bruce's grandson Robert II in the 1370s which was 60-70 years after the events. It was a poem called 'The Brus' and in it there is a story of Bruce on the run after he was ambushed at Dalrigh. He hid in a cave, and while pondering what to do next he watched a spider attempt a seemingly impossible jump to create a web. The spider failed several times until it achieved the jump and this was meant to have inspired Bruce to carry on. The spider proverb is older than Bruce and I believe originates from the middle east. It's most likely an old example of 'artistic licence' applied to a story. 'The Brus' is where we get almost all of our information of Robert the Bruce from. No other Scottish historical narratives of him exist before this poem, and it's likely Barbour's original poem is lost and what we have left is a later edited version.

It's an impressive scene, but I totally get why the director cut it. It added very little to the plot and ultimately would have brought the movie to a halt for 6 minutes.

@@spoopy9689 It's not really about that. It's more so that the scene just doesn't serve any purpose, except for shoving more action into a film that already has enough of it.

@@spoopy9689 I do know of it. If they could have combined that bit of the scene with another already existing scene, I think that would have been cool. Here though, it's a fairly small part of a long scene involving a chase that just seemed unnecessary to me.

this initial chase scene was dumb...it looks like they chased each other for miles based on the change in scenery. In real life, noone would be able to do this...i would've gone back and grabbed the horses if i was chasing someone this far.

Chris has been in the business for nearly 20 years. He fully understands the reasons for scenes to be cut. I don't think he would be hurt by it. Although he did jokingly say he wantedvto kill David for makingbhim run up that hill over and over and over again.
