To be fair on the defenders, Vikings normally raided places that weren't manned by well trained troops, because they were easy to raid lol. Considering the local militia actually got a couple kills i guess they did decently.

Because if they attacked a well defended place and the defenders knew they were coming in advance, then it wouldn't be a raid, but a battle or siege. Just like in Paris, Luna etc. And there also would be a lot more vikings and better armed and armored in such cases.

Imagine a village of 100 fishermen, 50 men 50 women. No walls, no militia, no soldiers. Maybe 20 of the men are in the age and training to fight of some bandits or a wulf. Then 3 vikingships come and 90 well equipped, battle-hardened, battle-experienced sea bandits come, that have learned to fight as group. In this situation in most cases the vikings would just slaughter all males within minutes, mostly without havin even one of the vikings killed, since they attack as group, helping each other if meeting a man that is armed and wille to give a fight. Imagine the fear that a rading party of 90 men, all equiped with axes or spears and shields would cause when approaching. This outcome is the reason, the viking raids took place, since when you mass little army at places where no army or even militia is, you basically can harvest money, food and slaves with little risk.

@@321AlterSchwede I think it's also worth mentioning that warriors were almost certainly young people (because almost no one survived natural pathology let alone cultural conflict), 14-24 years old. They were faster, hornier and more fearless. The ones who survived would have endured injuries and disabilities. Maybe they would have accumulated the knowledge to train or lead others but I also presume there was an honor in sacrificing your body or your life and they only valued strategic knowledge if it happened to make it home in one piece. And that's just their bodies. There's no doubt they suffered trauma and developed personality disorders like combatants today, which would have affected their fitness and led to disorientation in general let alone in battle. It had to have been a seesaw of good years and bad depending on whether you had any warriors in your village who lived long enough to learn the difference between glory and strategic leverage. I just think we should hesitate to ascribe modern or even ancient military tactics to an era where so many people died before they became adults and the adults lived significantly shorter lives than we do now. They might have learned from experience but they had to survive those experiences, and most importantly not ignore the knowledge because it wasn't compatible with their glory and their superstition. They made enemies, often times their own sons if the abused mothers were left behind, and lived in a constant cycle of revenge. I can't imagine any tribe was fit for very long.

With the way the battle commenced and how the Ulfhednar climbed the walls with their bare hands and axes, the way the whole sequence was brutal and unapologetic, this could have been the Battle of Venarium in Robert E. I like how people say this is bad acting yet don't know a thing about real Berserkers. The real Norse Berserkers used to get high as fuck before a raid/battle and it would turn them into wild, bloodthirsty maniacs capable of shrugging off all but the most fatal of attacks and allowed them to fight like an animal, with the downside being that during that period their reasoning skills weren't really all that better than an animals, hence why after dismounting that one guy at the end he bites his throat out then howls like a wolf, the dude's in a trance. Which is why after the battle you see the normal raiders, the Norse in the chainmail with shields and what not rounding up the village folk while all the Berserkers are on their knees in the mud shaking and twitching their asses off, they're coming down from their high. It's actually a pretty accurate depiction, so to say it's bad acting is just ignorance.

You meant well trained modern day troops?? Of course they're not gonna win, as they don't have modern day weaponry at those time. Am sure you're aware this movie depicts Norwegian or Norse berserks from the year 793 to 1066. No such thing as High-tech projectile weapons at those times. Everything is done manually like real men. Not a bunch of cheap sissies who can only pull triggers.

just like the John Wick movies, all the enemies "wait" to be killed. Pausing for a second, letting the attacking character kill them. Just that 1 second of "ok, I wont do anything, just kill me" is 1 second too long, it's too noticeable.

one thing about this movie it show the Berserk was dangerous, they be the first wave to attack a village or armor and most Berserk had no armor or anything just a axe and sword, they can do so much damage if you don't got enough man to stop them and you can tell they didn't had enough man to stop them, they got couple kill those good for them, and they most kill all the soldier and some man and the women and child get sold into slaves now if the village had well train man and some soldier, probably would survive but village that small barely only got couple soldier guard it

What a load of crap. Badly disguised like wolves, only to get rid of their "disguises" when they appeared out of the mist. They climbed the walls without the defenders doing anything to stop them. Like why bother having walls in the first place? lol. Once inside, no teamwork at all. They just walk randomly around killing people. The defending warriors seem to have no idea how to fight. The main attacker has a long seax, but holds it like an ice pick, thus basically eliminating the advantage of having a long seax. So glad I didn't watch this movie.
