Exactly how long does it take to saturate the Pro 100 Waste ink Pads

There is no answer to this question.
On most Epson printers you can use several utilities to read the Waste Ink Counter levels and even reset it.
You can also install external Waste ink Catches to regulate and divert the dumping of this ink.
Not so on modern CANON PRO Printers such as the PRO-100-10-1.
The PRO-1000 uses user replaceable Waste Ink Maintenance Carts so that is not an issue.
But the PRO-100-10-1 have no such option!
Waste ink generation depends on many criteria which I go over some of them in this video.
You can minimize it but not eliminate it.
How long does it take before the Saturation Point is reached???
No Idea!!!! It can be as short as months to NEVER! Depending on your practices discussed in the video.

I've had a Canon Pixma Pro 100 for 5-6 years now, and I don't really print that much. I also buy compatible ink, not Canon ink. Lately, I have been getting a lot of messages saying to re-insert the cartridge with a light off, but I keep doing this and still get the same message when I try to print. Do you think my printer is toast? Thanks!

Hi Jose, I hope you can help me. Do you know where the pads are located on this Canon Pro 100?

Going on 4+ years and well over 50,000 8x10 prints printed with my Canon Pixma Pro-100. I am not an economist when it comes to waste ink and practice bad habits when it comes to changing inks. Needless to say, I am getting the saturated ink pad warning but I sense the brick coming shortly to my Pixma Pro-100. No worries, I have the second one online and printing preparing for the inevitable.

There's a guy selling prints of old historic patent drawings and they use PRO100 printers. Over 100 of them. They refill using gallons of ink. When one set of pads reaches max, out it goes and a new unit replaces it. I do have two extra new units in box.

I have used only Canon inks for the 4+ years printing on the PRO100. Only this morning, after watching your videos, do I realize how much "waste" is actually on the waste pad. Thanks for enlightening me - Precision Colors, here I come to stretch out the life of my second PRO100 put in service this past week. Like the strategy you mentioned, I am now in the market for a PRO100 replacement to be kept in the box in case of the eventual happening! Thanks for sharing your knowledge - great stuff.

Another question that I have not seen you cover in your vids yet. I'm looking at getting another PRO-100 on craigslist as a backup, but I want to steal the carts from it to make my second set and refill both sets with PC inks. Is it ok to take those setup carts from the new printer and use them in my current PRO-100?

Not so easy for Canon. It takes a complete disassembly to!get to the pads. So it's not something you could of want to tackle. But I am not really familiar with any but the larger dedicated canon and Epson printers so assuming this is a letter size document type unit, it's out of my ball park. When these AIO printers reach the saturated waste ink pad conditioning n they usually end up getting trashed. Some of the Epson AIOs have removable waste ink tanks that you can easily replace.

Jose, do you think buying a extended service plan at the point of purchase ( two or three years ) is a good idea ?

If you are in the USA it makes more sense to pick up an extra printer and keep it as back up. A three year pl!an may cost you twice what you would pay net after rebates. Assuming you are here in the USA. I don't think waste ink pads are covered as a warranty just like brakes pads on a car are not. The three year plan will cover mechanical defects only but I could always be wrong.

Id rather get some experience on this question..for I cannot find anything on it. Can I install a waste ink unit on the Canon Pro-100 ? On the Epson 2200 its a breeze... but the cannon seems to have obvious plastic in the way. Can this be completed by removing the top and simply pulling the tube out and running/drilling through the side of the unit? Im sure youve gone over this but I cannot find anything.

Actually I haven't because it....well, it's extremely difficult and even after you do it, how will you reset the counter when it eventually reaches max. You have to enter Service Mode and you need a service Tool ( Hackware ) and unless you have an early version of the pro-100 with old Firm Ware, you no longer can.

Hi, Jose. While i understand the procedure of changing a whole set of cartridges every time one cart becomes empty/low, im not entirely sure whether this applies to OEM ink users? Correct me if im wrong, but from what i understood you replace a whole set (which is FULL), and while using this set you refill your previous set to FULL. And so in essence you always switch between full sets. So if this is correct, how can this be done if you are using OEM ink? I mean, as far as i know you are not able to buy OEM ink in bulk? Might be worth mentioning that i plan on buying the canon PRO 100s.

This is ONLY for refilling and ONLY after you have two full sets of carts to play with. NEVER for OEM. Only 3rd party.

I’m considering buying four canon pixma pro 200 for the 12x12 borderless possibilities for my scrapbook print business… the price tag is around $600 which is not a throw away price when ink pad is full. I have just found a CIS that just came on the market. Do you know of a waste tank company with 3rd party software for reset for the pixma pro 200? Thank you!

I'd probably go for a pro 1000. Larger cartridges, replaceable wastetanks, and you know when to refill with the Precision Colors sensors and using a scale (Octoink has a good video on the weights to see).

what if I unplug my Pro-100 and just plug in when I am ready to print. Will that stop the cleaning cycles from happening so frequently or can I just print a document every document? What is your best advice?

  • @cheo1949

    @cheo1949

No. It will create an even bigger one. Even off there is an internal battery running the timer clock. Turning off is not a good idea. Pulling off the power cord is even worse. Canon printers sisimply must be used often, not because they will clog, but to reduce the cleaning cycles. There is no choice here.

I recently printed some CD/DVDs and did not use my 100 for about 4 days. The unit was turned off at that time. I just turned it on and now I am getting really loud knocking noises and it rejects my cd tray. I have turned it off and on with no relief. The noises get louder and louder. Off hand the nearest printer repair facility is 100 miles away. Should I go for the travel and pay for repairs or should I just purchase another printer?

If it is a true mechanical problem I would just get another printer. Can it print regular photos once you put the CD tray support back up? Or does it only do that when you lower the CD tray feeder? I have a dedicated CD / DVD robotic printer so I have never even attempted to print Disks on the pro-100 or any other canon.

They do not sell cartridges for the PRO-100 of any printer. You modify your OEM CLI-42s and used their inks to refill them and reseter to reset the chips.. www.precisioncolors.com

Not really. It requires total tear down. You need the Service Manual at the very least and then you need to be able to reset the ink counters yourself which is not possible on the newer firmware versions.
