When you are drunk you are more likely to say what you really mean because you have less control over info processing and decision making. He had less control to keep his feelings down so he said them.

He lost the woman he loved for a job that led nowhere, and came to find out she married his cousin and his entire family hid it from him. In his mind, had he known they started seeing each other, he could have quit and come back to fix things. He fucked up yes but he can't accept it. And in his drunken state, he projects the blame on her. So a lot of those nasty things are just that misplaced anger. If he was sober, he would realize how irrational those thoughts are and reject them.

@@thecabbageman1 pretty much. I agree it’s misplaced anger, and I 100% believe there was a chance he might have come back to stop the relationship had he known a year or so earlier. But even sober, he had these irrational thoughts. Some people don’t need alcohol to do or say how they feel (although being drunk makes it easier), so i dont think alcohol is to blame for his nonsense.

So if Felix got more grant money, he would have stayed in Germany? What a selfish coward.

He is probably not a full-blown narcissist but he is quite obviously hugely selfish and egotistical and puts his own needs and wants before everyone else's.

He said himself he thought about the move for MONTHS and never even considered sitting with his fiancee and say he's going ahed, they can postpone the wedding, marry in Germany. It's clear he never loved her, just her stability. And quite frankly OP is not selfish at all but is a loser chaser, from the dreamer zoologist who never cared about her to the "struggling" guitarrist that cushions on her stable job while played on his band (EDIT: and fortunately got a grip himself). And now Loser #1 got without funds to live in Germany (an incredibly expensive country to live) and returned trying to mooch off her stability again. Yeah Felix only used the fact that it was his cousin as convenient ammo. He would have reacted the exact same way had OP married a complete stranger instead. He'd still have lost his sh-t, he'd still have caused a scene and been taken away by the cops, he'd still have expected OP to put her life on hold for over three years and just wait for him to return, he'd still have slandered her online and said that she had cheated on him before he even left, he'd still have called her a wh-re. His research probably failed due to him drinking and not doing his job if that's the truth. Knowing this guy, he probably only came back for money, and op was his last resort.

Let's also not forget that the only reason Felix came back wasn't because he realized he cannot live without OP, but because his research project failed and they ran out of funding. He came back because he didn't have a job anymore, and he didn't have money anymore. OP was just a backup to him. A safety net he could come back to an live off of. Had OP allowed him to come back he'd be gone again as soon as a new job opportunity presented itself, or if a "better" relationship opportunity presented itself. He's obviously hugely egotistical and only sees OP (and probably other people too) as convenience and resources.

He thinks that he can leave where the grass is greener and come back when it wasn’t with a warm welcome, but since no one was playing their parts he can’t be that important person anymore.

If his situation had gone the other way and he had been successful, I wouldn't be surprised if he still came back just to brag and diss her for her choice in marrying his cousin. Cuz when you read between the lines, he only came back to her cuz he didn't make it.

I think it was less out of guilt and more that they didn’t want to assume that Felix wouldn’t do anything against the marriage. They could easily guess that Felix is having a grand time with his job, but if they were to be wrong (and seeing how he behaved time and again), he could fly back and ruin their wedding plans since weddings take forever to set up to begin with. They were protecting their happiness. Now withholding the information after the wedding, I think they just weren’t sure what to do about telling. And they also figured it wasn’t worth telling since he’s in a different country. It’s not an every day scenario telling your ex that you’re married, let alone to their cousin. Typically, people just don’t stay in contact with their ex, and that’s what they went along with. That’s my assumption anyways. And since he ditched her, she had no need to give any courtesy for him.

Nah, Felix isnt entitled to know about OP’s relationships, considering Felix left OP and everyone else. For all everyone else knew (not the parents), Felix could be successful in Germany and having the time of his life, and exes typically dont stay in touch. Also, the parents probably felt that Felix would try to sabotage OP and Sam’s wedding and marriage because he “isnt over OP”, and judging from his behavior now, i think the parents were right not to tell him.

Ok first off if Felix didn’t want the OP to date/marry Sam or anyone else the he shouldn’t have broken up with her a week before their wedding in the first place but he did it anyways and lost a good woman.

I don’t know guys , I find it very weird. Why’s they had to be secretive about the wedding when they could just told Felix back then so that all of these problems wouldn’t even happen. Secondly, I find it odd how Sam (a broke musician) felt in love with a successful woman while she’s still depressed after got dumped. I find it very disturbing and manipulative. I’m not on Felix sides, but the whole family cutting him off it’s just really weird. All I’m saying is that all of these could’ve been avoided if they communicated better. Just trying to see on both sides. Peace.

I think the whole not telling Felix thing came down to the fact that he left and therefore lost all right to know anything about this woman's life. As for the struggling musician and the successful, depressed woman, I see your point.

Felix is trash for what he did to leave a word one week before a wedding is vile., Felix parents are wrong for supporting her and not telling him. They should have stayed neutral. If you ask me, the entire family is disloyal… OP is not wrong, and you can’t help who you fall in love with, and given the circumstances Felix brought that on himself. But choosing not to tell him at all and his family backing It, is crazy…
