I hate this. I'm a homemaker at the moment and it's because my husband and I decided it was best since we only have one car, and my husband wants to provide for me. Right? I hate that, "feminists will hate me, but I want to be a stay-at-home-mom!" crap. I am one of the biggest feminists you'll ever meet, and what I hate is women being considered lesser, and pushed around. If you want to stay home and raise a passel of babies, I love that for you! Babies are great, some of my best friends used to be babies! That's important work you're doing, there.

I love when I hear someone is a stay at home dad, and the mom works. That's wonderful, and I hope they are living their best life. I want everyone to be able to chose what to do with their individual life without being put down for it. Exactly. My MIL did the same & had 5 of her own kids. She could be there for her 3 daughters birthing if they wanted her there. She was not allowed in mine, just my mom & husband. It's gd this couple (& SIL) cut MIL off. She would be controlling over their children, compare their parenting just like the pregnancies, and overall overbearing.

I tried to rush to the hospital to be there for my sister during her emergency C-section, and I got there right when it was done when my sister was at her most panicked since the baby was whisked off to the NICU. THAT is the kind of situation you want someone there for, not for natural births with no issues. Giving comfort when things look grim is pretty critical. I know my mom was angry she wasn't there for my sister's second birth... that also happened during covid. My own mom is the monster-in-law. Honestly, Covid did my sis a favor keeping her away.

I don't stand her and idc about politeness either, whenever she tries to control anything i just insult her and curse at her, what is she gonna do anyways? I'm the type of person who's very calm and polite to everyone except to people i dislike, and it just so happens that she's the only one i dislike. My uncle doesn't really mind when i tell her to gtfo, he doesn't love her anymore but he won't leave her either, idk why, but at least he doesn't mind me fighting her

NTA, not too cruel. She was cruel toward you, now you get to return the favor. I'm so happy that you guys cut her off. She was an entitled jerk who blames everyone one else (and sounds like a racist without saying anything outright).

I honestly feel bad for the MIL. Before anyone attacks me, I know and believe that she is completely in the wrong and that OP's actions and SIL's actions were the right way to go for themselves and their babies. I feel bad for the MIL because she is just so delusional that she can't see the fault in her our actions and that she's the problem. I hope I never become that person, because those are the people I pity the most.

The MIL demanding to be the babies godparent and trying to get him on formula immediately stinks to high heaven. It sounds like she is hoping something will happen to OP and husband / she is planning on doing something to them so she can get her hands on the baby and raise him as her own 'do - over' baby. NC is definitely the right move. MIL is creepy as all get out and i would be on high alert for the rest of my days if i was OP. I wouldn't put it past her to try and kidnap the baby

My family doesn't usually restrict who can marry who, but when they do, you'd better listen. My aunt learnt this the hard way, actually I'm not even sure she learnt it. She married twice, both disapproved by family, the 1st one was physically abusive the other was a fraud who stole from her. Both times the family had to come together to rescue her and the kids. Before we were married, I also brought my husband to meet my family. I was so much in love but didn't want to be fooled with rose colored lenses. The only thing they complained about was that he was too tanned. Happily married now and great relationship with in-laws

Nta, the family is trying to force a relationship between the sisters even after what happened!? Thats crazy, and to add to it they went on a beach trip with the sister after everything went down and Op was still in the hospital, the family really raised a monster and are standing up for it instead of punishment and helping Op. Good on the bro for helping out Op after the family ditched her.

Gotta love the crazy hypocrisy she has. Especially when it came to breast feed. Like literally the most motherly and feminine thing she should be doing "No stop that just feed him formula" Like really? One of the things she should be approving of she doesn't because she loses precious minutes away from a baby..

This is kinda how I feel with my MIL. My MIL has always loved babies, always tries to persuade me and my other SILs to have children, always saying that if we didn't want our babies that she would take them and always offers to babysit. However, she isn't mentally well, and has threatened her own physical harm whenever my SIL has put her foot down about how MIL act when she watched her kid. She has a nasty habit of drinking and taking medication while watching children, but then when the parents get understandable angry, MIL turns it around saying that she only does that when she was not allowed to watch the kids. It's made me nervous about having kids, like she would try to take them away or something. But I can't necessary go no-contact because my fiancé's family is Hispanic and are really big on family, regardless of how toxic some members can be.

My aunt and cousins are Indonesian. Ive loved them all my life. It wasnt until recently i was told that my grabdmother and father had been exceptionally racist to my aunt and i started to notice how even though my cousins were more involved in my grandmother's life, she still soent more money and had better things to say anout my sister and I. I was so furious to find this out. My cousins had made peace with it but i couldnt help but feel furious on their behalf. If you have a family member that is racist or sexist, you cant let those people around your children. You cant allow them to hurt your child. Good on SIL and OP for cutting contact. That kind if trauma is not a teachable moment, its just unneccessary pain. If you think for a second that MIL wouldnt show blatant favoritism towards her white grandchildren then youre delusional.
