    I like your channel, but I would do a little more research than just taking an AI voiced video for granted. I’m not doubting these conditions, but also you have to realize there could be some emotional manipulation going on here. You could be told they castrate people publicly in North Korea, but you couldn’t ever really know.

    Larry, that was the prison El Salvador had before they made the mega prison because they where unable to keep control and with their President introduction of the anti-gang law everybody with MS13 or 18th street tattoos gets immidiatly arrested. The wild things is it cut their murder rate down by 95%+.

  • @histkontext

    @histkontext

    the murder rate down sounds like propaganda more than a truth. I live in a post soviet country - fortunately long after - and my grandparents and all older people were telling me about how comunists here just claiming that every murder was suicide, and how crime does not exist, because comunism is so awesome.. You can guess how far from truth that official story was.

  • @olmomedina1339

    @@histkontext It's got nothing to do with that. If murders in El Salvador were being called "suicides", bodies would still be on the street. People would still be calling out dead relatives. But they aren't. Bukele just put everyone who had a 1% chance of being a gang member on prison, which did put a lot of innocents in jail, but also worked wonders at removing every murderer from the street.

    Inside the El Salvador's prison, guards are In total control. Since president Bukele took the country In 2019, Crime Rates go down like 90/95%. El Salvador was one of the most dangerous countries around the world and now is the most safe country of LATAM. The MS 13 are one of the most dangerous gangs In the world and they are obliterated right now thanks to the law force. Is not propaganda, look the % of approval of the El Salvador's People outside that live outside the country. I can admit that the El Salvador's prison policies are brutal, but indeed they are really effective.

Not gang members only. But innocent people who was returning home and they was gunned down in the front of his home. Business owners was blackmailed and suffered extortion. People was really scared and the MS 13 was the owners of the country. Now, beyond the % rates, you can see that a lot changed. The very same People who closed their businesses/stores before 5:00 pm (because they were afraid of the MS 13 members) now they can return safely to their homes. With a lot of cops patrolling the streets. To a citizen who lives in a 1st world country, this look like a crazy thing. But in the 3rd world, is common that you need to run to your home before sunset, because you do not know if you are going to return home alive if you stay in the night around the street. Cold world here.

The U.S. prison system is one of the worst in the world, not counting third-world countries. France, Germany, Spain, the UK, Canada, Italy, Norway, Sweden, etc. All have more humane prisons. They have lower crime rates and lower recidivism while incarcerating fewer of their own citizens. Wake up America. Check out the abuses in my book Gangster Redemption. You are right about European prisons. I have a Asian family that are intermixed with other Asian nations. The difference with third world nations is they don’t stand for people who make bad choices. When I travel to Asian nations there is NO screwing around. If you go to a bar don’t ring the bell you then buy a round for all in the bar and in the end if you don’t pay the bill one goes there for theft. My wife grew up under the Marcos dictatorship it’s a mindset that the privileged of the world can not understand. With my Asian family and friends there they have no remorse for the people who are in the prisons there it was their choice. The biggest problem with drugs there is black tar heroin smuggled in by foreign tourists. It destroys their people that have hard lives as it is. This is the truth. I enjoy your show you point out many things please keep making good choices.

    I am kinda saddened that you didn't bother to do any research here because you typically do. Those countries do not have lower recidivism they just count recidivism differently. According to the US DOJ, you are counted if you are even arrested, not charged or convicted, simply arrested 3 years after you leave prison. Other countries only track for 1-2 years and you generally have to be convicted of another crime. If you count US recidivism in the way those other countries do the rates are roughly equal. Also, those cushy prisons you see in most cases that's not where the worst offenders go. That's where you go if you commit check fraud, not if you commit more serious or violent crimes. For example Aachen prison in Germany, where you go for violet or sexual crimes, is not much different to a US maximum security prison. They have the razor wire, strict control of prisoners, fights in the showers or cells, the hole, etc. Oh, but it gets better, in Germany there's something called "preventative detention" which means you can actually still be kept in prison even after you've served your time (which I'd bet artificially lowers the recidivism, if you're kept in prison for 5-6 years after you've served your sentence then you're obviously going to not commit any further crimes after the 1-2 years that they track you after your sentence is complete).

But this stuff is waaay more messed up, I'm with ya there.

    I've been to Thailand, it's not as bad as this video makes it out to be. They actually have a very large tourist industry. The "tourist" that get locked up there were selling or taking drugs. They don't play around with drug charges! The other tourist was in a red light district and drunk, starting trouble. Not to say that prison is humane and it still is wrong. Third world prisons are no joke, don't mess around in foreign countries.

Remember people, when Larry tells you to make good choices, that includes being aware if your surroundings if you leave the country for a vacation. Things that we take for granted on a daily basis here in the States could get you locked up for life some place else.

    Great list Larry, much respect from Australia, if you're interested in doing another one of these videos on the world's worst prisons, I would recommend adding Tadmur (which was blown up by ISIS in 2015 I think) where tortures and massacres by guards were routine or Sayndaya (also known as Syria's slaughter house and is still in operation today) where political prisoners are only allowed one square foot to live in, they are kept in complete darkness, tortures and killings by guards are a daily routine and it is strictly prohibited for inmates to speak to each other or to guards as well as many other horrible conditions. I think Saydnaya would have been a strong contender for number 1 on that list, or a very close second behind Camp 22. Peace

Non-violent offenders (in my humble opinion drug offenses, and other "lower level" offenses) shouldn't be tortured in this way though. My heart broke hearing a family who was being extorted and even though the family was finally able to collect the money ~ the gang burned their 3 year old son in front of them. They got what they wanted but somehow got pleasure to having this family watch this torture on their son. And it’s gangs like this that ES president said enough and have taken drastic measures that can be seen as inhumane but very well deserved imo.
