Dr. Grande's dark, deadpan humor is right up my alley. I often joke around the same way and some people don't always know when I'm joking. Either way, I get a laugh or a raised eyebrow. That said, Dr. Grande never fails to be informative, educational and funny. He's great at breaking up the dark tones of a story with a bit of (masterfully executed) levity. Also, that photo comparison between Tom and Megamind, combined with all the jokes was hilarious. 😆

Here in NZ it is prohibited to report on family court matters, but I got the vibe the wife was challenging his custody of the children which motivated Tom ‘big head’ Phillips to disappear with them. The court and police have not shown themselves to be particularly competent in how they have dealt with these matters.

The general consensus is that since Tom lost custody to his kids, he wasn't and isn't willing to let the drug addicted Mother take them so he has taken to hiding with them. The town know of her issues hence the idea that he is receiving help from those in his hometown to stay hidden. I live in the area where this is happening. I don't think it's fair to say the police are "apathetic." There have been appeals to the public, and extensive coverage of the sightings. Further, it's been reported that technology like cameras that can identify heat sources like people have been used to try to find the family in the bush. But the area they may be hiding in is extensive, and there are numerous caves in the region. So they could be there, but no heat signature detected if they're in a cave. I guess they also have to think about the well-being of the children and potential risks if he's got an "If I can't have them all to myself in the woods, no one can have them" mindset. And yes, there are some feral people and feral families who make it hard to get information, before during or after a crime being committed.

@johnrieley1404 NZ police can be really bad sometimes. Right as I comment this there's three people roaming free after a baby in their care was killed, police keep saying "not enough evidence" and there's been a number of times when the family of kids hurt/killed in their homes just won't speak to police so no one's ever arrested or charged.

@@AmonAnon-vw3hr I appreciate your comment, and having been railroaded by police in criminal court (stupidly I did not follow judge's advice to get a lawyer, I had no money), and having been a child protective services abuse investigator, I see complexity. I say, enabling is bad period. I think, in the end, it is our feeble Western politics that is behind this, punishment in some ways is a thing of the past in the U.S. People steal thousands of dollars of merchandise, arrested, the next morning let out of jail by a woke judge under woke law. Violence is becoming ordinary, and what, the judge lets you go back to the community after you have seriously hurt someone else in the family or a stranger, putting them into hospital and changing their life forever, physically and mentally.
Your jokes are a head above the rest Dr Grande ❤
Right when I saw the photo, I knew where this was heading.
I haven't watched this yet but I'm glad you cover it. Its interesting to me that someone managers to live of this land unnoticed.
Interesting story I'd never heard. I do take exception, however, to making light of his physical appearance- particularly bone structure, which is something none of us have any control over. Consider that there might be viewers who either have similar features, or even more pronounced- but also they might have children with similar features. It's really insensitive to make fun of people in this way, no matter how 'subtle' you might be making it. Moreover, there might be some of these people who really struggle w/ self-image because of years of teasing- & you further damage them. These days, for myriad reasons, a lot of people are just hanging on by a thread. It would really be sad for one of them to inadvertently stumble into this backhanded abuse. Message: you're smart enough to inject humor (which is non-essential to this story anyway) without taking cheap shots. C'mon Dr. Grande! Lastly, it's particularly a poignant thought that the people protecting him might dislike or despise the police MORE than they do a criminal who is possibly endangering 3 children. I wonder how much of this resentment has to do w/ the way New Zealanders were treated by police during the PLANdemic?
