This is terrible news about EVGA. I hope they pivot HARD to AMD. **EDIT** I meant terrible from a loss of revenue. I'm glad they are doing this from a principled perspective, but thinking of jobs. I don't want this to be the start of another high quality American electronics mfg to go away.

@Gamers Nexus, but someone on Reddit has a picture of the 4000-series EVGA card... this is a marketing stunt... we're gonna see EVGA raise again... I kid, although I have a GTX 1080 Ti that I will definitely treasure forever now.

I wrote an email to EVGA once asking the thread and diameter of screws for the sag bracket for my 3080 because I dropped one and it vanished. I expected to get a response simply telling me how much I could buy the screws for. Not only did I get a reply within 15 minutes, but it said "hey dont even worry, I pulled up your info from your purchase and we are already shipping some screws to you Priority Mail so you get them before this weekend!" Saved me a trip to the hardware store even. I know we are only talking half a cent screws here but that kind of speed and attention no matter how trivial your issue builds customers for life. There are really few companies left out there who you can trust are going to take care of you and your gear when you buy things from them. It's either a really sad day seeing the walk to the cemetery for EVGA, or the first day in a glorious new chapter for the GPU market. If they start building Radeon, I think I'll have all the incentive I need to finally jump ship from Green.

Yea! EVGA is 100% customer orientated company. Back in the day i had gtx 260 it was working fine but then just almost at 2 year point it broke(still 3mo warranty left)... It just didnt boot up and was dead. So i reached EVGA Europe support via e-mail, providing all the necessary details, documents. In the same day they replied that sadly they dont have GTX260 in stock to replace. So they can offer me a full refund or a GTX275 shipped via DHL for free as a replacement. I've opted for GTX275(because it is a bit better card and was more expensive to buy than the refund amount) and in 3 business days it was by my doorstep. And the broken 260 i was told to put safely in a box and print out given label to put on and that the same courier will take it back. (wasnt hard as i had the original box) Very satisfied with the EVGA brand. Even tho they are expensive at first, than others if you compare at purchase, their support is top notch without unnecessary bull... if anything happens. 👌

Yeah, honestly. I'm always going to be cautious about being *too* nice to any corporation (even one I like), but as far as corporations go, EVGA is definitely one of the least egregious. I've looked at AMD (and previously ATI) cards every time I've upgraded and always gone Nvidia in the end. But this might actually be the thing that gets me to switch at last.

1 cent part and $8 shipping, but that would make me brand loyal! I dont even own anything EVGA and I still think of them as best of the best.

One of my best memories as a game developer is being at PAX East 2013 with two brand new PC's, neither of which would boot, but both of which had EVGA GTX 650's inside and EVGA was our neighbor. I went over to their booth, explained the situation to them, and asked if they could help. Two guys at their booth came over and sprang into action, ripping our machines apart, finagling hardware and BIOS settings, miraculously getting one to boot, and grabbing a 20' HDMI cable from their toolbox to mirror one monitor onto the other. That show would have been a disaster without their help and I will never forget the effort they made to help out one tiny little indie team that just coincidentally had a couple of their cards running. Needless to say I've been brand-loyal to EVGA ever since for my graphics cards. This news physically hurts.

That's the overwhelming vibe of PAX, as well. Unrelated: I watched Notch give away his booth instead of packing it away. They announced a "Steal from Mojang" contest and less than ten minutes later, Notch and Jeb were standing in an empty space where their booth had been, looking pleased that they didn't have to pack up at show's end.

I have a similar story! I was at the national hardware show in vegas when 2 Asus employees began hitting on me, being 15 and a virgin I was quite flattered and agreed to accompany them to the bathroom to get my free gaming laptop they promised. Turns out I was naive and they held one of those small screwdrivers, that you use to assemble pc hardware, to my neck and told me I had to fellate them! Luckily as I was swallowing the first guys ejaculate an asian EVGA engineer kicked the door open, I instantly saw the fear in the Asus guys eyes. They both held up their mini screwdrivers and said this is none of your business rice eater go choke a dolphin! Big mistake. The EVGA asian sprang into action, ripping the Asus guys apart, finagling limbs and nervous systems, miraculously booting them unconscious, grabbing a 20' HDMI cable to tie one to the other. We then proceeded to remove their pants and needless to say I lost my virginity.

I wanted a founders edition like BADLY. I ended up settling for an evga 3080 instead. Hadn't let me down in any way. Hope this little story feels good for you to hear

I am just confused, from what I am hearing NVIDIA stops EVGA from price gouging us? Am I wrong for thinking this? It sounds like they want freedom with the cards so they can manipulate the market like how bad it got with the crypto sales EVGA loves that. Where the lower to lower-mid class get priced out of affording any kind of graphics card at all. I mean you say verbatim can't go higher then a certain $ which I find amazing. So I as a customer can afford a great product without feeling I have been taking advantage of because they have something I need for work, and to play a current game. I mean as a Dev yourself wouldnt you want more people to have access to Graphics cards so they can play, or purchase your games? I feel there's always two sides to a coin.

If NVIDIA has such arrogant contempt for its partners, imagine how much arrogant contempt it has for its consumers.

EVGA was my go to for NVIDIA as well. My first ever GPU purchase was an EVGA GeForce 6200 so my shitty eMachines PC could run Half Life 2 on DX9. I never thought they would stop making GPU's. Such a damn shame.

Honestly, they probably already have a deal with AMD for motherboards and GPUs. I think most people know NVIDIA will be gone from the consumer hardware market in the future because they can't build the core of the PC since they don't make desktop CPUs. ;)

@@mysteriousth1ef Thank God I got two slots on the EVGA wait list and got two EVGA GeForce RTX 3060 XC GAMING (12 GB) and an EVGA GeForce RTX 3060 Ti (8GB) before this happened. Trying to get a video card without paying over $1k has been nearly impossible for years now. The fact that EVGA was the only maker to have a wait list so I could get them at retail price (higher due to inflation but still half of what they cost from a scalper) says a lot about their company. It's why I've been an EVGA customer for 16 years.

@@jaybeam1466 revenue != income. You could have 80billion dollars in revenue but if the costs were 79billion, your income would only be 1b. this is a basic accounting mistake people make. You could theoretically be losing money even with trillions of Revenue if the costs exceed revenue.

I designed the Nvidia TNT2 card for Diamond Multimedia in 1999. It was really stressful. The way I summarized it back then: It's like doing an 18 month production cycle in 9 months. The stress was so high that I got really sick and left Diamond. I can seriously empathize with the EVGA employees.

Back in 2006 I bought a turntable from the EVGA CEO Andrew Han. He was selling it to buy a much higher end turntable. When I bought the turntable off of Ebay, I had no idea who the seller was, I only bought it because the seller was local (I lived in Fullerton, and the seller was in Brea). When I arranged with the seller to pick up the TT, that's when I found out I was going to the EVGA office. It turned out the person who sold me the TT was the owner and CEO of EVGA. I went to the EVGA office on a Saturday, and there was no one there other than myself and Andrew Han. He took me into a meeting room with a big table where he had a projector set up. We talked about audiophile stuff for a little while, and he showed me photos (via the projector), of the TT he was replacing the TT which I had bought from him, with. The TT he showed me was more like a piece of art than a TT. It was awesome looking, and cost in the tens of thousands of dollars. This was in 2006, when virtually no one was buying vinyl except crazy audiophiles like ourselves. We had a genuinely great conversation that had almost nothing to do with graphics cards, and I could tell then that Andrew was a very good person. As I was leaving Andrew told me that the next time I was in the market for a graphics card, to call and let him know and he would hook me up. I never took him up on that offer, but there have been many days in which I regretted not having done so.

They have produced the highest grade, most reliable, and most solidly supported GPUs on the market. We have lost an absolute Titan of immense and unrivaled hardware quality, we are witnessing the end of a legendary era of computing, as the tides change towards another.

im glad that most people had good experience, but in 2013 I bought two EVGA GeForce GTX 770 4GB Dual SC and used them in SLI, they only lasted 6 years before they both broke (artifacts and repeated freezes in any PC they were tested in that only diminished when lowering clock speed of core and memory in afterburner, until afterburner did not permit any lower speed but they both continued to crash). since then I have made a point to only buy graphics cards with strictly stock clock speeds matching the reference design, but it does not change the fact EVGA sold me products that seemed designed to fail after the warranty ended, so I have not returned to them.

And before that I had an ASUS motherboard and Intel Pentium III 500 that ALSO worked just fine for 14 years. So I expect better quality and longevity in the products I buy than you evidently do.

Considering you don’t value your own time, or the cost of electricity to run an inefficient old machine, and instead want to brag about limping a 14 year old system along that you could replace with a decommissioned Dell business desktop for $150 that’s 5x faster? Been an EVGA customer since its early days, bought many Nvidia cards from them, must say they ran extremely well and the one that broke was advantageously replaced. Their customer service was top notch. Very bad news to see them leave the market.

Man, Linus Torvalds was right, Nvidia must be a real pain in the butt to deal with.

@@functionatthejunction They hooked me up with a brand new PSU when mine started acting a bit funny. Single email detailing the symptoms was met with outstanding courtesy and an RMA label in 20min. Turnaround time till i was up and running again was a total of 3 days, and I live in Hawaii.

This makes total sense from my experience. We had a partner at a company where I worked that wanted to increase their business with us. New contract was offered with 40% more profit on paper, amazing! But I did some calculations and it turned out that it would actually lose us money compared to the current contract when all things were added into our actual cost. So even though they were a huge chunk of income for us, it was actually profitable to decline the new contract and eventually end all business with them simply because they based their offers on dishonest premises. A few years later they filed for bankruptcy. Not saying that Nvidia will ever lose their market position, but they might be even more profitable if they acted more honestly and respectful toward their partners.

It says a lot for Steve and GN's credibility and reputation that he was one of the folks entrusted with the knowledge of a decision this big before it was made public.

@@Robbie-mw5uu nobody sees this even though Steve mentioned this multiple times but clearly downplayed it. A lot of people don't know how unemployment works and in most states and even other countries if someone is "laid off" they immediately qualify for unemployment which the employer has to pay percentage based quarterly as taxes. I used to work for unemployment. So one of the worse things for an employer to say is "You are laid off." If they don't want to pay their employees. The reason it's bad to not delegate this to lower management and to only tell journalists because this decision is sudden and without warning making it harder for employees to prove it's a layoff and qualify for unemployment. It also creates chaos and confusion which is good for those who want to take the money and run. I'd say though based on my understanding of EVGA and economy, considering the journalists they chose, specifically Steve who will update this story out of pure Tegridy. I do believe EVGA does have the best interest of its core employees at heart. However, I don't believe it has the interest of the employees as a whole. It should have been more open in ending it's contract with Nvidia and gave them more time to migrate. This sort of behavior shouldn't even be legal due to its obvious moral ambiguity and stock manipulation. This could even be considered bullet dodging in some cases if employees has stocks internally invested in the company. This has greed and callousness written all over it.

EVGA makes some rock solid products. Whatever move they decide to make next they'll have my support.

I guarantee that AMD will come by with a good deal, despite EVGA saying they're not going to continue with GPUs, and EVGA will take it, but it will have to be really beneficial to EVGA. This move away from NVIDIA was to let AMD, INTEL and anyone else know that they want to continue but they won't be jerked around.

@@beancheez2905 Well, doing it like this lets their customers start slamming Nvidia until Nvidia goes to EVGA and offered them a fair deal. It’s a last ditch effort to fix the problem. Make it public and let the public have their say. It’s a fairly smart move because it makes Nvidia look bad when they have already been exposed selling direct to miners, screwing over gamers. This could be the thing that puts AMD way on top.

This is incredible reporting. New to channel. I don’t know how they feel about being part of the “media” but they are and this piece was exceptional It’s rare to find a group that understands the tech side, the business side, and can tell a story in a responsible and entertaining way. I remember my EVGA died after a surge in my house (my father in law was working on something in the attic... Don't ask) It was second hand and they still replaced it for me even though they had absolutely no obligation to. They had a customer for life after that. EVGA standing up for themselves is awesome and speaks volumes of their character. Hope it works out for them.

When I was 17, my years old GTX 570 died and I had no warranty or money, I sent it to them with a note pleading for a replacement and they actually did it, they gave me the upgraded model too. Just like you I was a customer for life, Ive bought a 1070, 2070, and a 3070ti from them. I dont even know if any AIB even comes close to the love of the customer they had.

I have never had to deal with their support (so I won't comment on that), however, the 3 different PSUs and 2 GPUs I have purchased from them have continued to stand the test of time. I would love to see EVGA branded AMD or Intel GPUs and maybe we will see them grow their case business or heck even bring their expertise back to the laptop industry.

EVGA not only made the highest quality cards, but they had the highest quality support as well.

except for their higher end models, my 970, a freinds 970, another friends 1080ti caught on fire, and the one with the 1080ti got a 2080ti and suffered the space invader glitches. I really could never recommend them in the high end.

Their support was the selling point for me and the reason I stayed with nvidia. I did not have a single good experience with any other company (both amd and nvidia) that offer any kind of post purchase support. I hope they reconsider and maybe partner with amd.

@@VEN0M415 I disagree, I have a GTX 980 SC ACX 2.0 and it's ridiculously good, I have it oc-d 400mhz over what a stock 980 runs at and it's dead reliable, runs at reasonable temps, all since it was made in 2015. Rivals 1070s in performance.

It's insane to see how far GN has come since leaving Steve's house. Amazing work guys!

EVGA's been my top choice for my GPU since the early 2000s - this makes me really sad as I don't feel the same confidence with any other manufacturer...and Step-Up is an AMAZING program (got my 3080 for 14 bucks since I bought their 2080ftw a few months before 3x launch), yet I respect their decision on ethical grounds. Sucks for us consumers, though.

They screwed me pretty bad when I was a college student. I sent in a written card registration (yikes, I'm that old...). When my card broke after 9 months or so, they told me I never registered my card on their online system that they had just started earlier that year. I told them that I had sent in the written forms, they responded with they don't have any records of my paperwork... I never bought one of their products after that.

What a crying shame, I run EVGA psu's and have had a number of EVGA gpu's and am currently running the FTW 3 3080. Sorry to the staff for this difficult spot they have found themself in, and also a thanks for your products. Let's hope a deal gets worked out with AMD

Blown away by the fair coverage GN gives in this scenario and EVGA sounds like an honest, hard working company that I will try to buy anything I can from.

Well, it's not like AMD lacks partners. While EVGA is valuable and AMD would benefit from having EVGA on board, they are also aware that EVGA does not really have many options... It's AMD or no GPU business basically, unless EVGA wants to partner up with Intel, but we all know in what state Intel GPU's are. That being said, all of this only shows that Intel has to succeed before nvidia goes full on apple and doubles the prices.

AMD already have Sapphire, PowerColor, ASRock, and XFX as their exclusive partner and are doing incredibly great with their RDNA2 GPUs (besides ASRock ig). EVGA would've some tough competition if they partnered up with AMD.

The EVGA card powering down was a good opener. Kudos to your production team.

EVGA is one of the best PC companies I've ever worked with...when I was younger just figuring out how to build PCs, I used to call them for EVERYTHING. They literally would sit there and troubleshoot my non-EVGA parts with me and helped me get my PC online. Cannot say enough great things about them, and this just improves my view on them even more.

That sucks, I always loved EVGA cards. Sad to see such a great customer-focused company drastically downsize.

Yeah, I pretty much exclusively bought EVGA Nvidia cards. This is a kick in the nuts but I'm not surprised by the difficulties in working with Nvidia.

The principled stances of the CEO, even if we don't know the full story, definitely explain the company ethos and quality of the products over the years. The mentality that the product and integrity matters does start from the top.

Yeah, but the part about not wanting to betray Nvidia by going with Intel or Amd seems very stupid, it is literally the best decision EVGA could make right now, intel/amd would kill to have them as partners, that means EVGA could ask for a lot more than what they had with Nvidia

Right. In the video, he sounded very confused as to why EVGA would not just jump into working with other Graphics Card companies. That's exactly what you would do if you did not care about the relationship that was built that is now falling apart. There's something to be said for not immediately jumping into bed with others. Of course, it could also be a tactic to try and force Nvidia to re-negotiate with EVGA since they are such a dominant player in Nvidia graphics card space. I can understand if they were not able to be profitable, but we have no way of knowing their internal financials in order to verify how true their statements are. It could be just the opposite and that EVGA is the most profitable partner Nvidia has and they just want to squeeze out a better deal. Who knows.

Nvidia decided to scorch earth those who have been partnered with them for decades now. It says a lot about Nvidia. I foresee an eventual long fall for Nvidia.

Yeah, I don't know. If "customers first" co-incides with a "employees don't matter" I'm much less of a fan. Stopping a cooperation that makes no sense, fine. But rejecting to find any alternative opportunities of the existing employees and preferring to "down-size" instead? Also, we'll tell Steve before the employees doesn't sound very respectfull to me either. Doesn't exactly sound like the decision-making over there is particularly focused on people's needs, so I'm still confused what the real justification is. Unless it really is a personal decision of one/ a few managers who just don't want to deal with this anymore. Edit: Yeah, I commented here before finishing the video. So Steve got there as well, it looks like more of a personal decision of the CEO based on his personal interest/life/state of mind than on an integrated "best for the company / all employees" point of view.

Holy ***t they actually did it, someone actually stood up against Nvidia. Hope this inspires more partners to do the same too

Wow, sad to hear this. Out of all manufacturers I've respected EVGAs lineups the most and it was part of reason why I've joined EVGA back in 2011. It was a blast working for them on same team with Vince! My first EVGA card was GeForce2 MX (back in 2000) and first GPU I did extreme overclocking with was EVGA 8800GTS ACS3. Sometimes I miss good old days, pouring LN2 into copper pots. :)

Gosh wow, this is sad to hear, I want you thank you Illya and Vince for everything you've done, you Illya and Vince were great at EVGA, ive followed xdevs/you and Vince for years, you both did amazing work, and that's an understatement, the dark and kingpin series were some of the best electrical engineering and designs in the industry, and not to mention the ability "unlock" either by your hard mods shown on xdevs or just part of the design of the card itself like the classified tool and xoc bios, and others, I hate that there will be no 4000 series, really is sad, that's an understatement as well, and also the work I'm sure you've already done for 4000 series isn't going to see release either is so sad, I hope you yourself and Vince make way somewhere in the industry where you can continue to do the beyond amazing work you've done at EVGA, I don't think, well I hope, that I don't have to worry about you both leaving the industry itself cause I know it's both your passion and love doing what you both do, I look forward and am very excited in seeing what both of you get into in the future, because just as I was so excited whenever a new Kingpin or Dark series dropped, I'm sure I'll be just as if not more excited seeing what you Vince do next, I'll definitely be keeping my eyes open, I wish the best of luck to you both and Thank You Illya for everything.

@@brianschumes4249 I left PC industry already back in Q3 2019 due to personal reasons after 20 series cards and SR-3/Z390 release. So I was not involved in anything past that. Building complex product like graphics card, it was always a teamwork of many people, not just me and Vince. We might have set direction and do performance validation/tuning/critical design changes, but still it is tens of thousands man-hours invested by company into each SKU. And every generation more and more limitations NV puts into product, following evil fenced -gardens- prisons like crapple does, and others, essentially crippling awesome product it could be otherwise.

Is EVGA going the way of Supermicro? Of all the manufacturers only the servers specialize brands are the only ones that don't carry discrete GPUs parts. Also Nvidia is making the same mistake as 3dfx which is to manufacture complete SKUs videocards out of their own to compete with their customers. Also wishful thinking but what if EVGA decide to partner with other minor non competing company like Imagination Technologies and revive smart designs of bandwidth and energy saving graphics processors?

Hey hey! Fellow GeForce 2 MX400 owner here. Loved that card. When I figured out how to kick Warcraft III into OpenGL mode a few years later, the card handled it like a champion. Eventually I upgraded to a 7900GS, then overclocked it 65% right up to 8800GTS levels. (Used a voltmod, drawing silver traces across the PCB. Fun times!)

If EVGA's claims/complaints are valid, imagine how NVIDIA treats the other board/card makers.

They've always been a top choice for myself as well between aesthetics, cooling, and overall design.

If Nvidia wants to become a "closed" ecosystem like Apple then I wash my hands of Nvidia. They don't deserve my hard earned money to stifle the gpu market by limiting creativity and allowing partners to push the bounds of their product.

IMHO if they go "apple" I see AMD / ARC making a good move up the sales charts as FEW consumers WANT ONLY ONE style of GPU and with dozens of styles from the board partners in AMD/ARC ++there are Chinese companies also looking at consumer "gaming" GPU chips

With this in mind it might not even be that bad of a business decision for EVGA to terminate their partnership. If NVIDIA is gonna go with a fully closed ecosystem in say, 2 years, it might be better to pull the plug now so you can eventually pivot(although they said they had no plans for this as of now) than to get screwed along with every other partner at the same time when NVIDIA pulls the plug.

This is the most insane tech news I’ve heard in a long time. When I first started pc building a decade ago evga was and recently still was the main board partner for nvidia. After a while I started seeing high end intel Motherboards and excellent power supply and great cases like the mini itx hadron. Shit, right now I have an evga card in my system. Nvidia has been a bully in the tech industry for a while and down right dicks to its consumers. This is a huge change for EVGA and the industry.

It's insane that EVGA made more money from selling freaking power supplies than their GPU department, and is now actively bleeding money per GPU sold. I'm really curious about their accounting numbers, as it seems like they don't make a lot of money in general compared to the other big players like Gigabyte. MSI and ASUS.

they were the cards i always dreamed of, i only ever owned one evga though (it was a geforce 9800 GT) i got it on sale though . usually evga's extra bells and whistles pushes them into the premium price range and i'd go with something cheaper, like zotac or msi instead or just go AMD/ATI on a given build. My curent card i've been stuck on (due to lack of money) is a Zotac AMP edition geforce 1070 . i really wanted a evga 1070 when i got it , but all the evga ones were about 60-100 bucks more in price at the time due to what ever "above and beyond" features they offered on the cards.

It happens when companies have very loose work ethics. Unfortunately it's not a direct consequence of corporate size. Working in the semiconductor industry, believe it or not, Intel, samsung or TSMC aren't our most difficult clients :) you'd be amazed how much a single person or a small group of person can drive down partnerships and make stress skyrocket. Sure, EVGA is just another partner for Nvidia, but i hope that story will still serve as a wake up call for them. Losing EVGA, they can afford, but losing brand recognition through the bad press that is about to unleash.. maybe that will hurt them a lot more.

I’d say it’s probably more down to what happens when companies try to have it both ways. Nvidia is showing what happens when a company competes with its partners. Nvidia makes and sells its own graphics cards, you can’t really blame a partner for being upset about that arrangement. AMD by contrast sells the design to board partners, and does not compete.

by far the best customer support and services ever! I really hope they find the right partnership for them.

I would like to hear from XFX and compare there relationship with AMD at this time only a few companies are making the 40 series and EVGA is the biggest to step down

Except they did not. I was on the list since may 2021. In October I still received no product and I was forced to remove notifies untill a maximum of 2 were active. Then last month I received an email stating that existing queues will be removed and that I should order from the website. Of course there still is no stock on their website. So in the end they never shipped. So after 1.5 years they still did not ship.

It gets overused a lot, but really, end of an era. I've been using EVGA cards for over 2 decades, they've consistently had some of the best customer service and support in the industry on top of some absolutely legendary products.

I know what it's like to get laid off. I feel for those workers and while I've never owned an EVGA GPU, I've heard good things about them and hope EVGA prospers in whatever direction they decide to go with moving forward.

Damn, hats off to EVGA for making a stand. Sadly, the end of an era here. I have owned EVGA cards since the 6800 Ultra AGP (possibly older but can't be positve). EVGA has always been synonymous with Nvidia in my mind... and actually more favorable for to EVGA as brand then Nvidia.

This is true for me too. Everytime EVGA was in stock for the generation I wanted, I bought EVGA. I have 2 operating in my home from the 3xxxx generation.

This, I've owned other brands over the years but EVGA has shown to be the best GPU manufacturer IMO.

This was truly impressive ... it is so sad to see companies of great integrity like EVGA, fall by the wayside and/or be lessened by greedy, controlling, companies like NVIDIA ! I can proudly say that in 20 years of building computers, I have never bought an NVIDIA GPU ! 😀 Have supported EVGA, buying their psu's !

*Actually super interesting, looking forward of what's to come from EVGA. Superb informational video reporting.*

Very sad that Nvidia can't treat their partners well. In my eyes this is a big loss for Nvidia, evga cards were by far the best looking on the market imo.

true, when i first got into learning about graphics cards... EVGA FTW were the first ones i learned about not any other brand. So even though i don't run one, they still for me are the 'look' of a graphics card stamped in my mind. and they look cool as hell!

This is death for EVGA. XFX has never been the same since they stopped selling Nvidia cards. It is a shame though, I have owned a fair number of EVGA cards over the years. My last two xx80 cards have been MSI though and they have been wonderful.

Yup, had the all-time best looking GTX 1080 FTW2 which was absolutely beautiful and now the RTX3080 XC3 Ultra since October 2020 and they are imo the best cards being made. Every time i look at my 3080 it looks so awesome that no other card is as beautiful as this. Sure my gf has a 3070 Suprim from MSI which also looks good but EVGA has that awesome EVGA look. (Except the 20xx Series, there it looked kinda ugly but the 20xx Series chips also were bad. low performance and high price)

This is incredibly sad news, as EVGA is one of the most respected companies in computer tech. They are a rare company that is loyal to its customers and I'm sad I won't be able to get GPUs from them anymore. I really hope they reconsider partnering with AMD or someone else.

Seeing the 4000 series prices, I am sure it was a huge reason why EVGA showed them the middle finger. They simply said tf are you doing with these prices

To sum up "For 22 years, my company and I busted our asses for Nvidia and recently they've become more and more insufferable until I could not take it anymore. They want to disrespect me and my company which has taken their products and made them the best they could be? Screw 'em. I've got a family I want to spend more time with, I don't have the time nor the patience anymore to deal with them. I've built a solid company over the last two decades. We can survive without them." I can't fault him. I get all the other stuff but personally, I just can't blame him. Yes, AMD does dumb and shady stuff too yet I can't remember the last really bad story I've heard about them save maybe some minor pricing stuff. Yet it seems like every other week, news comes out about some really bad shit Nvidia's doing.

Well said, what's the saying about power corrupting? Nvidia is killing it in the space and has no real market competitor. Hence the abuse. (And by market space, I'm including their enterprise offerings, like virtualization support with vmware, high end networking and really the entire CUDA core stack. AMD sadly doesn't hold a candle when it comes to that market .)

They won't. At least not yet. They may in a few years. Just not the moment they broke up with Nvidia. Nvidia is like an abusive Ex. They never forgive and never forget. If EVGA goes to either team Red or even team Blue too soon. Nvidia could likely dig up some documents to attempt to ruin EVGA. Even if the claims are false, but the legal fees would still hurt EVGA more than Nvidia. Even if they won. Many a big company has done this tactic in the past. I can name a few that have done this. Though may not been their intention, but the result was still in their favor.

EVGA isn't the only AIB getting screwed financially because of Nvidia and it's far from the first time Nvidia shafted partners for sure. There's been plenty out there in the past that Nvidia are cunts to work with.

Always bad when a manufacturer also sells their product. I was told by a CEO that we wouldn’t have layoffs during COVID 10 days later they cleaned house.

Here is my take: EVGA successfully pivoted to being one of the best power supply manufacturers at the dawn of a new psu scrutiny era. NVIDIA is famously hard to work with, and Evga built cards that made buildzoid's lists of recommendations. So now evga can drop nvidia to get back at nvidia publicly, deprive them of talent, and cut losses to focus on PSUs while Nvidia makes hungrier cards.

If I was Lisa Su or Pat Gelsinger, I would be rushing to get EVGA on the phone right now. Even if EVGA's CEO can't make a commitment right now, you want to let them know that a GPU partnership with your company is a real option. Make it clear that your relationship will be built on respect and trust, and you might just be able to steal away a prestigious graphics card brand from right under Nvidia's nose. Fantastic work on this report GN! Very few channels would have been trusted to record and release such seismic information.

AMD might not care that much, they already have Sapphire and probably dont see enough benefit in adding another premium brand at the cost of their most loyal ones sales.

As a customer I would love for EVGA to partner with AMD to give Sapphire some competition and the customers more options but idk if it really makes sense for AMD to make any big effort to get them.

I am an EVGA fan for life. Their customer service is second to none.

Noooo! Every graphics card I've purchased since 2005 has been an EVGA card. My first GPU upgrade was in a compact preserio and I bought a EVGA GT series card. I still have a Windows 98 machine with an EVGA GeForce card in it. My 250, 750 Ti, 950 TI, 1070 TI, 3070 TI and 3080 are all EVGA and still working.

The attitude EVGA seems to have with regards to working with Intel or AMD makes me wonder if there's some kind of non compete contract at play. Especially when they talk about remaining loyal to Nvidia even after cutting ties with them. It'll be interesting to see what happens in the future when any remaining legal bindings run out.

I used to work at a company that made a majority of its products for one big client. When they started to put pressure on us and suddenly declared that we were making shit it first affected our boss and slowly but surely trickled down to every employee. Saying that the atmosphere was unpleasant would be an understatement. It's one thing to make money but it's not easy to stay cold headed when you're constantly reminded that what you do is worthless. Even if it's not true.

I have had to RMA every EVGA part i've bought, including a $1500 GPU, at least 5 times in the 3 year warranty period. But I agree with them after confusing my EVGA product for an NVIDIA product and contacting them for support. They are rude and tried to tell me my broken card was running properly. If thermals are hitting max on 2/3 of the card and the fans won't turn on, they should know it's not working properly. It's their tech.

I was with EVGA Germany for a couple of years, and back than spoke with Andrew Han, and from another capacity also with Jensen Huang in person (though that was about something else than EVGA). Big egos.

Smart time to make this decision. The high end GPU market is pointless and the prices have become unrealistic and out of touch.

@@amogusenjoyer Will they continue to? Crypto is dying, inflation is hurting disposable income and pricing is out of touch with reality. They flew too close to the sun frankly. Look at all the recent price cuts... this is a GIANT market adjustment and EVGA were brilliant in making such a ballsy move. The point is that they were LOSING money selling them, so it's bad business to keep doing that. This is good corporate leadership and should force Nvidia to reconsider tactics. Discounting the value add of board partners is stupid and shows a frightening lack of industry understanding.

But if you look at the video which JayZ made on this subject, at current prices EVGA are losing hundreds of dollars on every top end (3080 and up) card they sell. They can't compete with the prices charged for the Nvidia own brand cards.

I do not know if EVGA is a private company or has shares in the market , because if it has this CEO it is beyond fired.

Great Reporting. My only inquiry btw would be does Nvidia in it's partnership with Evga hold stock or options financially directly within Evga? I would presume to some extent Evga also does the same holding Nvidia either publically traded shares/bonds or privately held ones. Depending what Evga does in another sector as it withdraws out of the Gpu market. Evga market share value can potentially take a nose dive. Especially if Nvidia or anyone else holds Evga equity and starts to dump it for various reasons.

Don't worry about that, mate. EVGA is a private company. That's why they're at the top.

As a Taiwanese, I'm truely grateful for what they've done in the past few years when it's impossible to get one single card here from any retailer. Now as they decided to step down from the market, I geuss I will keep my 3080ti FTW forever as a reminder of this brand's spirit.

I've never been displeased with products through EVGA. Their support has been great. I hope to see EVGA do well in the future. If Nvidia is the only provider of their cards, imagine how expensive they would make these cards... Also like Apple...

I have a FTW3 3080 and one of their Supernova 850 power supplies and have 0 complaints with anything so far. Sad to see them go, as I consider them the best AIB vendor for gpus.

Yeah, Apple has some great build quality and products for certain uses, but man are they expensive. And the post-purchase care is pretty questionable with how much they overcharge for repairs. That's the thing that really bothers me. The attempts to profit off of their own products faults, and fight DIY repairs. Plus their cable fiascos, intentional slowing of iphone OS's in the past, and again, just ripping people off with all sorts of things (like a certain monitor stand lol). Not much reason to trust them.

Lucky you. That wasn't my experience with them. I had a 1070 card that was constantly shutting itself off after less than a year. Known issue. Customer service told me that I was going to have to pay for a new card while I shipped back my old card, and then they'd refund me my money if they examined the card and found it to be defective. Because vapor mining had skyrocketed, my card was now selling for 3x the price of what I paid for it, and I told them that there was no way in hell that I was going to let them charge my credit card for 3x the purchase price to get my defective card swapped. Talked to a manager and got a new card, which has worked ever since, but this was only the 2nd video card I'd had fail on me in 30 years of building PCs, so I wasn't thrilled by the quality, nor the customer service.

Of course the support is great because you guys are american. It got different perspective by people from other regions. Same as Asian who got great support from ASUS, MSI & Gigabyte or even Zotac because they're in the same region especially east & south east asian. LMFAO

I'm an only ASUS guy, but still that sucks what happens here... EVGA was a major actor of this market.

Not expanding the business, not selling, not laying off workers, no more video cards, not making other brands of video cards... yeah right.

I really hope EVGA really partners with AMD or INTEL, from the 500 series all the way up to their 30xx series, and many of their PSUs later, I really don't want to see such a respected AIB partner just disappear from the market like this. Theres a reason I went EVGA with most of my purchases over any of the other AIB partners.

EVGA was always my go to company for graphics cards. They had such amazing cards as well as phenomenal customer support. It's sad to see them leaving the game

My first gpu is from evga. I told my self that I’d make sure I’d get an evga card when I go to upgrade my parts. Looks like that won’t be the case anymore. 😅

Oh, so it's fast and furious's fault. It's not about money, or respect. it's about family.

Maybe Intel should ask EVGA to build them an ARC card in secret or hire former EVGA's video/graphics card employees to help build them a better ARC cards.

Steve and GN quicky rising to the absolute top of tech research and news coverage- a spot that nobody has ever had the integrity to hold until now.
