liked your video, just received my sc2 today. do you happen to know what the seemingly random white lines over the warranty sticker are for? I thought it was just me, but the way those lines overlap on the warranty sticker looks awfully akin to mine. Thanks

Just bought one. My fifth EVGA card(I upgrade fairly often, it's not due to any failing obviously). Going back to 560ti. Their customer service is fantastic. Recently gave me a new 760 GTX when my old one in one of my systems failed after 3 years of use. No questions asked and no hassles. I also respect them for the way they handled the whole heating issue with my 1080 GTX. I don't have problems with mine, but if any arise I have no doubts they will handle them with professionalism. Goes to show that customer service and honoring warranties with no hassles nets you many loyal customers.

this card looks quite impressive, thanks again Tom for this awesome review. I will buy a 1080ti soon and I will Watercool it like always, but I'm not sure which one to get. FE or MSI armor 1080ti, the founders already has a water cooler available and for the Armor the block will be released soon. does the advanced PCB of the MSI will help with overclocking or does the FE easily hit 2GHz without problems?

13:03 You have the best teardown of the 1080tisc2 on youtube. Can you confirm that in order to access the gpu (since I need to reapply thermal paste) that it's just a matter of the 4 screws around the gpu itself and then the 3 other spring loaded screws that you pointed out at this timestamp?

Makes you wonder why the manufactures don't just build the power atx ports on the side rather than in the front?

  • @JsGarage

    @JsGarage

    6 жыл бұрын

Well it all started when graphics cards got long. They started putting the power on the side because of the long length and power on the end you needed a hell of a lot of case room which still holds true today. I think they should have hard jacks in both locations like some pro cards do. Although too many noob consumers would probably try to connect 4 PCIe power adapters lol.

From what you just said. Is the card actually only using 2 slots, or is it using 2 and a half like the other brands? Just curious because if it is only 2 slot then that makes my decision for me. As the reason I was holding off. Was because all the others were 2 and a half slot cards and if possibleI would like to keep the 4th slot on my motherboard free.

Great review. I bought my GTX 1080 Ti SC2 direct from EVGA and it cost me €809 here in the U.K., which worked out at £706.91 according to my credit card. I thought that was a good deal as it is only £8 more than the Founder's Edition card and the SC2 has much better cooling and runs quieter. I'm absolutely delighted with it so far as someone who plays games maxed out at 2560x1440 and 60 FPS (some even at 4K using DSR or with SSAA). My last card was the GTX 1080 FTW but the Ti is definitely a noticeable improvement over that card as all my games now run at 60 FPS and I have the headroom to spare for future titles. It's an expensive card but absolutely worth it if you can afford it.

I have a EVGA NVIDIA GTX 1070 8GB, do you think it's worth the upgrade to the EVGA NVIDIA SC2 11GB? I recently bought the 1070 so I can return it and now that I'm paid again, I have enough to pay the extra for the SC2 11GB model. I mostly play WoW, Hearthstone, Heroes of the Storm. Occasionally I'll play Guild Wars 1 and 2. Elder Scrolls Online. And lately Mass Effect Andromeda, though haven't tried it out on 4k yet. I have a 55 4k tv that I plan to put it on in the following days. My processor is a 8 core AMD FX 8300 3.3 GHz if that info helps any. I have 20 GB of ram, planning to upgrade that to 32GB. 20GB of ram, those numbers dont work out. You could upgrade to the 1080 Ti but those games are not massively demanding. What FPS are you getting now? If youre getting good FPS it might be a good idea for you to upgrade the board/cpu and memory

2 8GB sticks and a 4GB stick. FPS on ultra, with shadow and liquid detail turned to low it's only bounces between 20-28 in the broken isles, which is one of the new areas for the game that's slightly crowded at times. But in a dungeon/instance it can go up to around 40-50 fps.

It will run with 500w but its the bare minimum. You may notice performance drop. I use a 750w 80 gold rated supply. But I have a bunch of drives, fans and leds.

I would love to buy a card from a firm like EVGA, especially seeing how they've handled the mentioned issue, but so far they haven't made a card for me. I'll stick with the really quiet cards. The Powerlink: LOVE the idea, but think they delivered half a product. Having the psu connect to the adapter inside the motherboard room, instead of behind the motherboard tray (long enough cables should ensure compatability with cases with too little room beind the motherboard tray), is moronic. Why not help people make their cases prettier? IF done properly it's a VERY cool idea, that i can't believe noone's had before now. kudos.

Great review. Right now I'm still running a 1080p monitor. Over 6 years old and still running good. But when it does decide to die on me I will be making a jump to the 1440p or 4k level. I know this card will work at 1080p and I know it will be way overkill but will this card; since it's so fast, hinder my games at the 1080p level? Any comments would be greatly appreciated.

John Athanassion it won't hinder your games per say. In fact your eliminating any sort of gpu bottleneck at that resolution with this card. Your CPU becomes the bottleneck here, and due to the insane power of the 1080ti, the CPU will not be able to write data as fast as the gpu. When you increase the Resolution up to 1440, majority of the load is placed on the GPU when rendering games. In fact overclocking your CPU at this resolution may have only a small impact here, where as at 1080p, a CPU overclocking would be beneficial if running a card as fast as a 1080ti.

Thanks for your insight. I think I many reconsider on getting a 1070 or 1060 instead until I jump to a 1440p monitor. And by that time, newer cards and monitors should surface.

i think the power connector relocation thingie is ridiculous. you're adding new points of failure and a fat chunk of plastic to your gpu just to relocate the connectors by a few cm...

HE DID THE DING!!! HE DID THE DING!!! (jumps around like an idiot) On a more serious note, I'm seriously considering getting one of these. Partially because I've been infected by the EVGA virus by a former coworker, but also because it will fit nicely in my gunmetal gray Phanteks Enthoo Evolv ATX case as opposed to some coughfuglyredandblackcardscough. I blame you for making me care about aesthetics, Tom! Ya hear!?

It is really great. I got it back in early December of last year and I've been blown away with it ever since. It's a little loud but that's stretching it to find anything to complain about. It's a BEAST. I upgraded from SLI 970 and I'm having a much better experience now.

you cant go overboard with cooling on a 1080 ti, it makes so much heat you cant cool it silently.

The problem I have with the "fuse". Is that is seems like a "warranty shortener". Meaning you pop a fuse, you RMA the card. EVGA "fix" it by just replacing the fuse. It lasts another 6 months before it pops again, but guess what. Now its just outside the warranty. Thereby being a fuse more focused on lowering EVGA RMA cost than other... Its also a component that can incorporate planed failure. Like you see on some washing machines that have swapped out parts that should be metal with plastic. So it fails a few years earlier than it otherwise would and so on. In short, not a fan of the EVGA fuse thing.

I found this exact card for $550 on craigslist. I suppose the guy just bought it for a youtube channel and tested it. Would you say that this card slays the GTX 980? I can get the GTX 980 for $200 , and either one would be a huge upgrade from my gtx 960. I would love your 2 cents, thank you!

anybody else notice how the pcie power connectors are positioned directly above part of the RGB branding on the side so that your power cables would be forced to block out a significant chunk of text? whoever decided that was a good idea should be fired. its like theyre trying to force you to buy that stupid sideways power adapter thing so your card doesn't look ridiculous with cables hanging in front of the logo
