I love this language. One of my favorites, especially of the Germanic branch. So melodic and sounds lovely in traditional folk songs like "Rolandskvadet" or "Eirik Jarl".

All Norwegians speak dialect - it's very easy to become oblivious to one's own, because our own dialect is naturally the one we find to be normal to us and the "default". But someone from Oslo, Grimstad and Tromsø all speak their own dialect, and I honestly think this insane variation and lack of standard spoken Norwegian is one of the most beautiful things about the language :)

I think it is sooo cool how, I can't understand everything but I know what she is talking about. If you really listen to her words you can find the similarities with english and establish context. I cant do that with Swedish, Finnish or Icelandic though. I have no clue what those people are talking about lol. Great video! :)

Yeah I don't think that will work with Finnish, it's so far removed from English that it's in neither the Romance or Germanic language families. It's in a whole group of its own.

In terms of easiest to learn for native English speakers, Norsk (Norwegian) and Nederlands (Dutch) are the closest to English and should be one of the first you learn. Next is Français (french) since English is a mix of Old English and Old French. You could also follow French with Spanish then Italian. Just follow the language tree and you can know like 5 languages in the matter of a few years

Finnish is not related to germanic languages. In fact, it’s not even an indo-european language. Languages as different as Spanish, Icelandic, Russian and Persian are related, while Finnish is not.

She's interviewing people about their dialects and asks the same questions - where is your dialect from - what quality of your dialect expresses itself (what gives it away) - tell me something fun to say in your dialect. She says at the start can someone speak Nynorsk - at the end she explains it's only written (by 12.75% of Norway) not spoken. There are conversations about how many dialects there are in Norway but mainly it is split into four groups (east, west land, near Trondheim and 'Northern land'). some people's identity are often connected with their dialects as it explains to people what the surroundings/background is. That's my summary
