They are just begging for trouble not including display port HDMI cables. You know people out there are going to try to use their HDMI 1.3 and display port 1.1 cables that may or may not compatible with this monitors resolution and refresh rate. They are going to get a lot more RMAs than if they had included those cables.

They won't get many RMAs. They'll get store/retailer returns. Consumers won't have to go through the RMA process because it'll be a problem from the beginning, and will be returned to the retailer. The retailer will either RMA it if it is warranted, or send it for inspection and repacking in remanufactured packaging. People that return stuff because they don't like it, or for any other fault of their own, like a wrong cable, are scum bags. Amazon needs to tighten up their return process.

While I agree with both of you in theory, there are too many people who don’t know / don’t care, they don’t know that their old trust HDMI cable that worked just fine with their PS3 for years isn’t good enough for the new display combined with a PS5 or whatever else. What’s worse, is that it will likely work just fine when they use that same system and cable on their other tv with lower resolution and or refresh rate, and they will believe the monitor is defective. What’s worse, is each cable likely would’ve only cost about a dollar to include. Meaning that even if only 1% of customers return for this reason, it still won’t have actually saved Sony any money…

Something worth pointing out with monitor stands that I wish you guys talked about more are the positions of the lateral legs (ones that go out). For a multi-monitor setup, if these legs are in front they can get in each others way when you have the monitors arched in a curve. If the legs are at the rear, this doesn't happen. Probably not why they made that design choice, but super useful if you need to arc the monitors if you have limited desk space.

The stand is a deal killer. That front foot means no space under the monitor for a speaker or even a laptop if you like to push it forward. I have no idea what they were thinking.

I am personally more interested in how it performs for watching media. I usually game on an ultrawide so this standard aspect ratio isn't great for me in that regard, but 4K 27" QD-OLED sounds great for watching some videos. Edit: I stand corrected it is not QD-OLED, just LCD. I got confused earlier when I was trying to look up QD-OLED monitors and ended on a page about this monitor.

6:10 If you want to control your monitor's settings through software, odds are you can just use any random DDC/CI control application to do just that (like the old ClickMonitorDDC, or the newer Monitorian). Basically every monitor that's been made in the last two decades will support it (it works over VGA and DVI, too). (Which makes it even weirder that Windows doesn't just use it for brightness control like it has on laptops. Instead it's just been relegated to a Win32 "Monitor Control" API, which is so old that it literally has methods for *degaussing* the monitor.)

2:28 seems that KVM in monitors are becoming more common nowadays. I used KVM feature extensively on my GB M27Q as I work from home and having an easy way to switch from my work laptop and gaming PC without having to disconnect and reconnect everything. I did have to use a hub as 2 ports aren't enough, as I use a separate numpad.

I have the M9 and it has what look like multiple stuck pixels (a greenish blue dot the size of say, a sharpie point) and I see slight vertical lines. They almost aren't there but they are. It's hard to explain. But they are there. I got it to have a monitor that matches all the specs of my PS5 and still use in PC, but I think I might have to send it back. I ran into a similar problem with the Predator monitor awhile back. I ordered like 5 of them before I eventually went with the Dell 2716DGR. That just started having issues, and I have a PS5, so I figured I would get this to match and it would have everything a PS5 can do (for the most part). And I do have slight dimming issues. So when it's a black screen (as I go to with every new monitor to see if there are issues because I have moderate OCD and can't stand having anything but a near perfect display) I see a slight halo of light around the cursor. But it's not bad. That wouldn't be the issue. The dot is.

Purchased this monitor when it was released and am using it with my PS5 and M1 MacBook Pro. So far I’m loving it except for some parts of the HDR. I say some parts because when watching movies and gaming in HDR, I notice the local dimming (when set to high) causing the image to exhibit haloing that looks different from what I’ve seen in other Sony LED backlight displays. This only happens in a pitch black room with no bias lighting but it’s actually kinda distracting. To the point where I feel like turning local dimming to low is a better option with HDR content. I find it’s most noticeable with contrasty HDR movie scenes but when you know what to look for it’s noticeable with pretty much all HDR content. You get haloing in the form of squiggly white lines that move around frame depending where highlighted objects/subjects are in the frame. Not sure if it’s just my panel but given that the monitor has none of the screen defects people have been posting online about, I want to say I have a solid panel. Just wondering if anyone can add to this discussion. I love this monitor and if this is a normal backlight consequence on a 27 inch screen, I’m willing to put up with it. But if it’s a defect, then I feel like I should swap it out while the return window is still good. Thanks all 🤘🏼

Apple sent me an iMac for work which has a 4.5K display on a 24” screen and comparing it to my Agon is what made me jump on the decision to replace it. I wish Sony offered the option of removing the Gsync because it’s totally useless with Apple products and it would make it cheaper but if you can find it open box at Best Buy I’d seriously recommend at least trying it, it’ll make your macOS visually stunning, especially if you do editing of any kind.

It would have went back today if it didn't update last night. Highly recommend the USB-B/DisplayPort update method that's on their support site if you're updating from M006 to M009. After updating the VRR works great and there's a lot less screen tearing on PC. Ryzen 9 5950x/4080 FE/64 GB RAM configuration. Edit: I didn't like the stand. Main differences that still remain are that inputs/outputs tend to be a bit different. Most of the time, you'll see that DisplayPort is not present on TVs. Second, and probably the biggest one nowadays, is refresh rate. Monitors tend to target higher refresh rates than their TV counterparts. At most, on TVs you'd see around 120hz. Anything above that is usually overclocked, usually. Monitors have been hitting higher refresh with more ease cheaper. Anyway, as stated by the video. This monitor is a bit more expensive to some of its counterparts. That's the Sony Tax. There are some features on here that mesh well with the Sony ecosystem, which is a huge plus if you have other Sony things. That being said, I've known people that have been using a C1 as a monitor, size aside, the color accuracy is great. You're just capped by that refresh rate and response time at times. Not horrible, mind you. It's actually great compared to a lot of monitors, but not the best for that price range either. The C1 at that price would definitely be a worthy consideration for a monitor. Can't beat how nice OLED looks, especially since the next option for OLED monitor would be the Alienware 34" for 1400 USD, I think. There you are paying for that higher refresh rate and high color accuracy.

It's kinda upsetting to me how there's no 1440p monitors with proper HDR support, that doesn't also cost twice as much as my 4K TV that does have it. I should point out that any HDR rating below HDR10/HDR1000 may as well not exist imo, my current one accepts HDR10 input, but it only has 400nits peak, and HDR looks really really bad on it. I only have a 3070, 4k monitors just aren't an option for me since gaming at 4k is stutter city with my current card and non native resolutions just look aweful these days. As for the stand, it's a non-thing for me since I use vesa mounts for my displays, can't stand monitor stands, they take up way too much space :)

Sure for gaming, but for movies, they are mastered for 4K HDR. Running a 4K mastered movie on a 1440p monitor will force the movie to disable HDR, because It cannot change its code on the fly like a video game can. If you watch movies more often then play games like I do, 4K HDR is the obvious choice. Most of the games I play have DLSS support anyways so if I have to run a game using DLSS it still looks great on a 4K display, much better then my previous 1440p monitor I sold.

There are some really sweet monitors in the 200-400 range, I cant imagine that someone is actually getting $500 worth of features unless they are actually using it for color accuracy which people who actually care will get a creator monitor. I don't get to have 10 bit color channels at the pixel level at the full refresh rate. Shoot, I even tried it at 72 Hz, but that didn't work. Because a 40+" screen does not make for a comfortable experience in the average desk setup. But man would I kill for a 32" OLED. #@" is as big as I'd bother going for a PC monitor

Not everyone wants a 40+ inch TV as a monitor and some people will be keeping their monitors longer than 3 or 4 years which with PC use could definitely cause burn in by then.

I would go as far as to say $600 at most, For a 27 inch display it's just too expensive, They couldn't even be bothered to include any cables. If this was 32 inches and had over 1000 diming zones for what they're charging, I would say it's a great deal.

To be honest, its kinda weird sometimes how y'all define "afordable" and "expensive"; the alienware Display -> 1300 Bucks. This Display -> 900 Bucks. Mate, if the Alienware one is actually better as a Display, I can wait to scramble the 400 Bucks together if I'm already spending nearly one Grand on a Display.

There isn't a single standard for better or worse when it comes to displays because each display technology has its ups and downs. For a general purpose display, surely this one will better than the Alienware for many. For hardcore gamers, the Alienware is probably better.

@@littlejackalo5326 Well, and 100% extra is absolutely huge; I mean there are also 450 Buck ones out there which would be acceptable in comparrison. But you want the nice HDR Features, you want the Design and so on. So, then you already like "Well, I want something around 1000 Bucks.". Then you can also put the 300 Bucks extra on top and it isnt like "It will cost you an arm and a leg". Eizo Monitors or alike for 4000 Bucks doin' that. Or a 900 Buck one compared to the SAMSUNG UE57 or BenQ EL2870U or LG 27UN850-W to name just a few under 400 Bucks which are workable. I think their HDR Features ain't that good but otherwise ...

I've been testing the monitor for a few hours and the visual issues after the initial configurations really impress me (I flipped from the BENQ EX2780Q 27), but.... the monitor has a problem with automatic signal detection after the display port cable. I have to switch it to DP manually to get it to fire up the image. If I do not do this, the monitor after about 10 seconds of searching for a signal shows a message about the lack of signal and shuts down. In addition, before each launch of a game that supports HDR (whether PC or XBOX or PS5 - I checked every hardware) the monitor goes black for 3-4 seconds. The same thing happens for 3-4 seconds after turning off the game. Is this normal?

It's normal for the screen to go black for a few seconds when starting/ closing games. It just the monitor adjusting to the games graphic settings. It shouldn't do this in every single game.
