'EVERYTHING ELECTRIC' x 'FULLY CHARGED =

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

The Fully Charged SHOW has been promoting pure electric vehicles of all shapes and sizes since 2010, and in recent years cleaner energy technologies too.
Robert Llewellyn & his team have been part of a growing global movement - spearheaded by Tesla - that has consistently predicted that we would electrify almost everything.
In the next 12 months, Tesla and the new battery electric vehicle leaders, BYD, will deliver another ~5 million of them, not to mention the dozens of other runners and riders.
Similarly, all over the world we are greening the grid, and although it is in its relative infancy, adding significant volumes of decentralised energy generation and storage.
We believe that by 2030, most developed nations will be at Norwegian-level adoption of electric cars and heat pumps, and in the next decade V2X will become ubiquitous.
Progress is so rapid now, that we chronicle these stories with 4 episodes each week across 2 KZread channels - Fully Charged (vehicles), Everything Electric (energy).
Make sure you subscribe to both, and click the notification bell to be alerted to new episodes on Tuesday, Wednesday & Thursday, plus our podcast on Monday mornings.
As long-time followers of the Fully Charged SHOW know, KZread does not pay the bills, and it's been our 'festivals of electrification' around the world that make it all work.
Formerly Fully Charged LIVE, from 2024 our exhibitions are now known as Everything Electric AUSTRALIA, LONDON, NORTH, SOUTH, CANADA & EUROPE (dates below).
With 200,000+ attendees anticipated at the next 6 shows, and with dynamic elements like ~50,000 test drives to an EV-ready audience, these events really move the needle.

I bought my Kia Niro EV from a couple who were isolated by flooding, when cyclone Gabrielle hit NZ. They used the V2L (Vehicle to Load) power outlet in the car to keep refrigeration and some lights going for a ten day period.

A few weeks ago we went to stay with my Mother-in-Law at her Villa in a retirement village. We arrived with about thirty percent charge remaining. It was late, so I left plugging in until the next morning. When we woke up next day, there was no electricity; a sparky was wiring in a new generator at the hospital wing. I plugged an extension into the V2L socket in the Niro, and we fired up the kettle and toaster. The word got out, and before long we had a steady stream of neighbours with cups in one hand and slices of bread in the other! We went from unknowns to heros in thirty minutes. (It does a pretty good job as a car too!)

Now that'd be a great Fullycharged episode. Ecotricity New Zealand did a similar thing for their YT channel, during cyclone Gabrielle they dropped off V2L cars to customers who were without grid electricity for weeks.

@@Anonymous-ib8so : My early days were as a hardened rev-head petrol-head motorsport nutcase. I have had BMWs for the last forty years - the last four years being a 330e Hybrid. Seven months ago we bought the Kia Niro EV. Our electricity plan supplies free power to our home from 9pm - midnight daily... the car charges during this period. Our total "fuel" costs for the first five months came to USD8.00. (It would have been zero, but we took a wrong turn on a trip, and had to top up to get home.) While it is not a Tesla Model S Plaid, it has satisfying performance, and we ain't ever goin' back! Our thoughts are that the decision to go with an EV has more to do with your circumstances than the actual car... It really works for us... If you do huge daily mileage, can't plug in at night, need to tow big loads etc., an EV isn't right for you, but it could be a great second car. I know from the tone of your comment that this is wasted on you, but others might find it useful.

I just don't see how exactly EVs are better in anyway ? My wife wanted a new car so I was like "ok get what you want" we went round every dealer and no matter what make or model she looked at financially it made no sense as the car would cost more than the petrol version & with the price of electricity cost about the same to run so whares the saving? Even the dealer told us "it's just people on company car scheme buying EVs for the low tax cost we have hardly any private sales on EVs" Then there's the total hassle actually living with one we had a mg4 on test for two weeks & I could not wait to give it back to them it's like we've gone back in time. In a petrol car you just drive to anywhere you like keep driving untill you get a fuel warning & then in five minutes time your ready to go for another four to five hundred miles but in a EV you find yourself actually having to plan whare you go and how long you have to stop and for how long it's a absolute joke a vehicle should not dictate what you can and can't do because of range & charging times ect. Look I know your all probably all fanboys on this channel who will say anything to protect the EV but please can you tell me in which way there better ? Because for me to want one it has to be better or how is that progress ?

This channel comes over as polemic rather than informative and balanced. Then again, it's promoting big $ events around the world, so is more of a PR front for an events business than anything else.

To quote "Research recently published by the Trancik Lab of the highly esteemed Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) could wipe the smug expressions off thousands of electric car drivers’ faces. The boffins at the Trancik Lab have shown that an electric Tesla Model S P100D saloon produces more carbon dioxide, at 226g per kilometre, than a petrol-driven run-around such as the Mitsubishi Mirage, which is responsible for just 192g/km. Tesla Model S P100D saloon produces carbon dioxide at 226g per kilometre, according to Massachusetts Institute of Technology And unfortunately for Tesla drivers who would rev their engines in fury and declare the research an anomaly, the MIT finding backs up that of the Norwegian University of Science and Technology, which last year declared: ‘Larger electric vehicles can have higher life-cycle greenhouse gas emissions than smaller conventional vehicles."

I'm going to do you the honour of assuming you're an interested commenter and not a disinformation bot. Yes, cars in general use lots of energy and do lots of other harm while they're at it. Smaller vehicles is always better, and fewer vehicles better still. All that said, you're comparing apples to oranges - like-for-like EVs have substantially lower full lifecycle emissions than ICEVs, even if the electricity to power them comes from natural gas. The efficiency of a utility-scale natural gas generator, electricity grid and EV powertrain is better than that of an ICE, plus the combustion products are slightly different. That's before you even consider the harm done by tailpipe emissions in urban areas, which is probably 'the next tobacco' for society.

Some reality checks. Total highway capable BEVs delivered (not sold 2023) 4 million world wide out of a market of 100 million light vehicles. 2023 Lithium production only capable of producing 14 million Y, or 1.2 million Semi size battery packs - Since at least 30% will go to cell phones, laptops, power tools ebike; power walls - you'll looking at 8 million. Market penetration of 1.4 bilion ligth vehicles - 0.05% to move this to 25% would required 10x lithium production - probably won't even see 5x in 10 years. To be real BEVs need a battery break through; to make it green the world needs Thermo nuclear or some other massive green energy; other wise 80% fossil fuel powered and 20% heavier.

One of the most recent examples is the 'uninsurable' EV narrative, so I decided to put this to the test when I got my renewal quote. Using one of the well known comparison sites I got a quote for my EV then found an ICE BMW model that was closest to the same price when it was new, mileage and current value (yes the depreciation was about the same!). I simply swapped out the EV for the ICE in the same quote and guess what? The BMW was about £100 more expensive to insure than the EV.

If the Australian gov't allowed small business owners to 'write off' BEVs the same way they do commercial vehicles (mainly diesel utes), BEV sales would go up drastically! If BEVS were exempt from both GST and FBT, like pick-ups are, ZEVs would grow from ~7% seen in 2023, to 15-20% easily! But our Gov't is so a5s backwards, they won't. They'd rather keep raking in fuel excise (on imported fuel), than promote BEVs.

RE How many BEVS will BYD and Tesla make in 2024? I'm skeptical of the BYD "sales" numbers for 2023. BYD sells 92% of BEVs in China, they increased the number of domestic resellers from 1100 to 3400 in 2023. The Qtr. by Qtr. sales growth matched almost exactly 1:1 to the quarterly increase in resellers, normally there is some lag as new resellers come online. BYD measures a "sale" when a car has passed from BYD to a reseller, not based on registrations. How many of BYD's sales were actually sitting as inventory at resellers vs sales to the public?

@@bigredog100 Not sure what are you writing about. But I guess bikes aren't public transportation in the first place. Second, those cities who have invested in public transportation properly do not have the issues you describe. In other words, you have an opinion, but that's it. But I guess the company you work for closes down during maintenance. Not sure how otherwise you can come up with something like that.

If you live in a densely populated urban area, you have a good point, to some extent. In large, sparsely populated countries like Canada with -40C temperatures in Winter and 60kph winds on the Prairies, a bike won’t cut it. We also have 40 tonne transports carrying goods from one end of the country to the other. We have an EV to get us around as it suits our needs. If you can meet your needs with a bike and a bus, good for you, but one size doesn’t fit all.

@@davidcottrell570 The word "cities" was used for that reason. Rural country side can be difficult without a car, depending on how far away from a city center and how decent public transportation connections are. The Netherlands shows quite well how even rural areas can profit from public transport. Even the USA taught us a lesson, by putting rails into "nowhere". Without it the USA wouldn't be as populated as it is in the center of the country. As such, successful transportation always adapts to the regional or local needs, as general traffic solutions don't work. We can see that with the car. The game of "another lane" obviously doesn't work, as the local traffic needs aren't addressed by that. Nevertheless, bad infrastructure planning will add another lane, despite the outcome being known. 🤷😉

It is said that democracy, combined with capitalism, are the best of the worst government and economic systems. Stop thinking in systems, which schools want to prepare you for, with you working all your life instead of living it. Start thinking in spirituality, or at least humanism, and you will get far further than with just bad systems, which do not even have an option for good systems, as there are none. Humanism is no system. It is a way of living life. 😉
