! Update ! The version 2.1 update has released, and it fixes a few things that i address in the video. Such as: -The loops in Sonic 3 can now be hammer-dashed through as Amy with no issue. -Amy's second transformation now has the appropriate after-images to match the other Hyper Forms -The Game Gear games have been stretched horizontally to take up more of the screen. Though there still is a black border on all 4 sides. -Game Gear games now have an anti-aliasing screen option. (There's also one for the Genesis games.) These look quite blurry. -As well as other fixes for things not mentioned in the video (such as a Mono toggle for GG games.) Thanks for watching everybody! ​@@BobbyBionicIf you don't mind I would like to add a feature not fully mentioned here in the videos. - Sonic Chaos, Sonic Triple Trouble, Sonic Blast and Tails Adventure have both a Japanese and an American/European versions of the roms in Origins Plus that changes according to the region of the boxes. These extra Japanese versions have different save and load states not shared with the American/European versions (so technically you have 2 save slots for Sonic Chaos, Sonic Triple Trouble, Sonic Blast and Tails Adventure) - Sonic Blast was also known in Japan as G-Sonic and this is displayed if you choose the Japanese Rom of the Game, however despite Sonic Drift 2 being also known as Sonic Drift Racing, this detail does not reflect in the Rom as that title screen was never coded - The option that was added to both Genesis and Game Gear games was Nearest Neighbour and not Anti-Aliasing. Anti-Aliasing was the standard for these games. Hope this was usefull!

@@SonicStation The different regions roms for the GG games is a pretty cool inclusion that i didn't even know about until i saw it mentioned on a comment on a different video. I tried it out and was surprised it actually worked haha. I plan to mention this in an upcoming bonus video. Though as for the screen setting, i'm just calling it what it's referred to as in the game's options menu.

that little bridge there in hydrocity is to patch a softlock caused by resetting in the wrong place. It screwed up story mode / Sonic 3K speedruns but better skips with less risk were found after the plus update

I didn't know Eggman used Tails' pallette in Sonic the hedgehog 2 until that super Tails segment, this also explains why his glasses went from blue to black and why his cape got duller

Its was more noticeable with the S3K's Flying Battery boss, his front-facing sprite has more of Tail's palette than his normal ones.

Sonic 2 actually had thee checkered pattern that's used on the Sonic Mania box. Also, the not for resale image looked differently for Sonic 2. It was more of a seal, and would have been over Knuckles' foot if anything.

The "1 or 2 players" logo is also shared between origins and sonic 2

The reason the reverse boxart uses a checker pattern instead of a grid is because it's actually a refrence to Sonic 2!

One thing that you forgot to mention is that the Eggman cutscene after the Big Arm battle was fixed. Thank God; Eggman being on the wrong layer was really bugging me.

You missed a couple changes in the 2.0 update: 1. Controls can now be customized on console versions 2. There are 3 jump buttons like in Mania instead of the 2 jump buttons at the launch or Origins

Knuckles has had a super form since 1994, so applying that idea to non-hedgehogs is already flimsy, even if they were trying to retcon all other super forms. The whole point of me bringing that statement up is because as a female hedgehog this affects Amy directly. Even with their weird rules we know hedgehogs have no issue going super, as we see with Sonic, Shadow, and Silver. So the only thing that was holding Amy back before was the fact that she's a female. Which is ridiculous to have that being the one thing that prevents her from this power. Super Amy proves they either no longer stand by that idea, or it never was something they really endorsed to begin with.

Can we talk about the fact that his code is literally just the series title!

They should have made a special gg emulator that uses the resolution base for sms but with modern formats that uses the full modern screens of today, then add some extra memory to it so that it can load in more sprites and enemies on said screen.

i love the attention to detail in this review! reminds me of when i was even more annoying about sonic 😅 (i don’t mean to imply you’re annoying, but i definitely was) my first experience with these games was in the DS sonic classic collection. i was mostly fine with it at the time because i was like, 7 years old. but yeahhh apparently it’s the worst genesis collection they’ve made. so i was glad to pick this one up to play them all again ✨

Having bought Origins Plus this August after waiting a whole year having hope most of the major issues were the compilation got fixed... well, I suppose I feel satisfied with it myself, already put over 100 hours on it in Steam. Though I do feel sorry for those who bought the deluxe when it came out and still had to pay full-price for Plus, that essentially felt like it was ripping them off. But that aside, I can easily see why others still feel it's rather lacking. Game Gear titles are a nice inclusion, though it would've been cool to have other Mega Drive era spinoffs like Spinball (16-bit) and 3D Blast, maybe even Chaotix (though honestly, emulating that is a pain in the ass and would probably require a full blown remaster, which no one at Sega is gonna have time for) This one is more with Origins as a whole, but: while I'd rather not return to the original games after getting used to the remasters (skill issue, I know)... even just lazily plopping in the original ROMs of the game (maybe with adjustments like changing the Michael Jackson music in S3&K because that's never getting a rerelease anytime soon) and calling it Classic Mode would've been a more authentic experience than this weird identity crisis in Origins. Amy's playstyle could've been more interesting but I personally had a lot of fun playing as her really. She's already my go-to character for quick fun playthroughs of each game. Sure, she makes things a bit too easy and absolutely wrecks boss fights entirely, but it feels so satisfying. :p

According to the Sonic Fandom wiki, 2.0 also reverted the name of Hyper Tails to Super Tails, making the Chaos Emerald transformation of Tails nameless. I... honestly do not understand this. Not only do I think the reversion from Hyper to Super was dumb, but they didn't even bother to remove the form that was called Super Tails up until then.

If you want to change the soundtrack for cd go to the setting on the islands and you can change there

At first I thought putting a "not for resale" on it would be dumb, because that only applies to copies that came with the console, but after I learned that you literally can't resell the game I think it would have been pretty funny.

Man, at least the Nintendo chip has the word "plus" on it. The discs are just Origins. Also, when I put the PlayStation code, ot never showed up in the game. I literally waited 3 days and still had to pay the money because support didn't do shit

It's just one of the many things that were said once by someone in some interview, and the fans take it and run with it. The sources are also rarely shared in these discussions, so i was sure to include the word 'alleged' just to be safe. I'm not sure if they ever actually stood by that or not, but it's nice to see they at least don't in this instance.

A Tails crash in Sonic 1 got added too.

Fun fact, Bobby Bionic: The Sonic 2 Super Sonic code has a religious background

Note that the checkerboard on the case is from sonic 2 and not all copies of sonic 1 have not for resale on the case

I feel like if metal sonic was added, he would either: 1. Have the ability to fly (but keep momentum when running) or 2. Gets the option to boost while running.

Something to mention: You can travel to any completed act (including special stages) using the “My Data & Ranking” menu and then pressing Triangle/Y/X. I say this due to you mentioning a lack of a stage select

Also quick thing: being able to smash the Marble Garden Zone pillars actually makes sense, as you can also smash them with th e Fire Shield's mid-air dash, which you can't use on Knux's bolder either, so they're probably coded differently/to be different and breakable by anything, while those bolders are Knuckles Only.

I mention it briefly in my first Origins video, and discuss it more in depth in my "We need more Sonic Collections" video. I do wish it was ported in some capacity, but i can understand them not wanting to make a 32X emulator just for that game.

just give us Mania II already call it Sonic Mayhem or sumn and have multiple sonics with different special abilities that’ll each help you differently on each stage. Idk something interesting

As someone who still owns Mega collection and Gems collection from back in the day it really disapoints me that this new collection botched so much. If a new fan needs a way to play these old games this will do well enough but for someone like me who has all of these and more on my Gamecube I really can't justify getting these for just what is essentially Pink Sonic and a bunch of GameGear roms I already have.

All the Amy bits are consistently disappointing. "They didn't do this, they didn't do that, they didn't do the other thing"

i'd kill for a sonic advance series remaster, especially an SA3 remaster

This makes me want to buy the SEGA Dreamcast so I can play theses games in their original glory.

True, i've always called him Nack out of habit. Though calling him Nack in the Triple Trouble section was intentional, since that was his official US name at the time. That's also why i correct myself in the Drift 2 section since that's when they changed it back to Fang officially. Though i guess it's Fang the Hunter now to add to the confusion. I really like the small comic they just released addressing all his names.

I used the Nintendo Switch version, but version 1.5 is what is on the cartridge. If you use a Switch that has never had the game updated on it, you can play Ver 1.5 before it updates, or turn off wifi so it doesn't know there's an update available. I don't know if the Plus DLC is compatible with 1.5 or if it has to be 2.0 to work.

Many copies of Sonic 1 were bundled with the console as a way to incentivize someone to purchase it. That label helped to ensure that game stores weren't just taking the game from the bundle and selling it separately.
