Agreed. I know he always says he “got to be Jim Carrey for a lot less money”, but I see it as he took the foundation Jim Carrey laid in the movie, and not only built up on it, but arguably _improved_ it.

Just for reference of why the mask was broken in Split Personality was because after Stanley Ipkiss ran out of the bank to keep the mask away from his childhood nemesis Chet Bozak(because his thought bubble told him 😏 + 🎭 = 💀) Walter appeared in front of Stanley as he tried to run away and almost got the mask totalled when a steamroller ran over it only to discover that the mask is quite durable,then Walter appeared in front of him again and suckercut Stan into an alley!And although Stan was all "Good ol' indestructible mask saved my bacon..." he felt in his shirt that the mask felt different and pulled it out to discover as he put it"(whistle)That Walter packs quite a PUNCH!"and realized that he had to find the other half of the mask before he did!Then he stopped and shortly shrugged "Oh,come on!What am I worried about!?It can't possibly work if it's broken!(chuckles,has second thought)Can it...?"...then you probably saw the rest in that part of this video...
