Queen are a British rock band formed in London in 1970. The band comprised Freddie Mercury, Brian May, Roger Taylor and John Deacon. Their earliest works were influenced by progressive rock, hard rock and heavy metal, but the band gradually ventured into more conventional and radio-friendly works by incorporating further styles, such as arena rock and pop rock.
Queen have been a global presence in popular culture for more than five decades. Estimates of their record sales range from 250 million to 300 million, making them one of the world's best-selling music artists.

Brilliant review of Queen's discography. The more impressive thing is that you, a Millennial, know way more about Queen than I, a Gen X'er, ever did. I salute you for that. Queen is definitely one of those bands that define the 70s and 70s rock culture. The 80s was a hard decade for many classic rock fans of the 70s as one by one, many of their favorite bands from The Rolling Stones to Queen to Jefferson Airplane/Starship "sold out" to the new 80s sound. The music transition from the 70s to the 80s was much more drastic than from the 60s to 70s or even the 50s to 60s. David Bowie said in an MTV interview that Disco never died in Europe and that New Wave was basically 'Disco w guitar". That would explain why Rock bands found it so hard to transition without alienating their fan base. Rock fans absolutely hated Disco but, that's a whole topic in and of itself. Anyways, I'm loving your channel so far!

I agree as far as listening to their 70s albums more than their 80-90s stuff. However, I prefer to watch their live stuff from 74-79 more often than 80-86. I just like the vibe, sound, and overall set lists in this era. The jazz tour and the Live Killers stuff was amazing and the band was at a peak for most of those shows. In 76-77 as well they were just MWAH so perfect.

Used to see Freddie out and about on the club scene almost weekly in London in the ‘70’s and yes the uniqueness of artists like Bee Gees and Queen didn’t transcend the 80’s well. In Bee Gees case the renaissance was the 90’s.

Haha poor Brian. The lad can't even get the credit for writing The Prophet's song :') That was very much his creative project (not Freddie's). He composed it all, acapella arrangements and everything. Spent weeks on it apparently. You might be astonished to learn he also wrote It's Late and Show Must Go On, while Roger wrote These are the Days of Our lives. Great review though, pretty hard to disagree with the general order. Might drop Made in Heaven to the bottom and shift the self-titled effort up a few places.

I’d think it’s too hard to rank all of these, but I love specific periods of their catalogue. My favourite era at the moment is probably 89-95. I just feel the massive passion of Freddie throughout each one. It’s cool for you to actually appreciate “Cool Cat”. I personally like it as well. Freddie’s falsetto is really stunning on that track. The chord progressions on here is quite cool too. Even if I might not seem to fully rank the albums, My top 3 might look like this: A Night At The Opera Innuendo A Day At The Races Loved the video, regardless of different preferences.

While I will agree with your rankings, my choices would only make a few changes. Swap Queen II and Jazz in my book Jazz is just fun. No other word to describe it. I was introduced to Queen back in the Seventies by a co-worker. The album: Queen ll. Gave it a listen to at the store and bought it on the spot. Then came Night at the Opera. My immediate thought: You cheeky bastards - ripping off a Marx Bros movie. Bought it, loved every second of it; it fitted my sense of the theatrical, having as it did, a light music hall/Broadway sensibility to it. A Day at the Races followed - another Marx Bros title and another album I bought without hesitation. Is, this, I wondered, the start of a pattern? Are they going to name every Marx Bros film from here on? No, as it turned out. And for some reason, I never listened to or bought, another Queen album. And to this day, I have no idea why. It may have been Punk and New Wave and Reggae, along with Jazz, Blues, RnB, and the varied styles of Afrobeat. Just the fact that there was so much musical variety to explore, new and old, during the Seventies, made it difficult to focus on just a few key groups or artists, although I did do that, too. I'm nothing if not eclectic! It wasn't till much later in the Eighties that I paid Queen renewed attention, courtesy mainly of their chart singles and videos. What impressed me then, was Freddy's voice; so strong and dynamic and unique. Live performances, in particular, I found amazing. Thankfully, it's easy to play catch-up today, and in my dotage I've been able to enjoy all the Queen music I passed over when younger.

Queen is my favourite band - by far - since 40 years. Of course your list is your opinion, but starting with 'Hot Space' as the least favourite album has become a cliché. People should listen with less prejudice and they'll see, that 'Hot Space' is in fact a very good album - the music genres on this album - maybe- might not be everybody's cup of tea, but the substance of the songs is actually good (except 'Back chat' - this is really a bad song). But I have to admit, that I stopped watching your Ranking Video on your position Nr. 7 - Sheer Heart Attack. This position is just ridiculous. Also describing 'Brighton Rock' as a flat song (which you, indirectly, did) can't be taken serious. Brighton Rock is IMO their most underrated song, one of the best guitar-driven songs in Rock history.

When it comes to Queen's first album I think modern times rock and roll may be the standout. Hopes a little bit of fun at Glam and I believe you can say it predicts the punk movement. The whole album was amazing and I don't think I could pick out a bad song but I have to disagree about modern times rock and roll. I'm also curious to know what you think the eagles influence might be. They had only released one album before this album would have been recorded and I don't believe it would have had enough of an influence on the band to show up in their music. It's easier for me to find the influence on meatloafs two out of three ain't bad, Todd Rundgren specifically said that that was a take on the eagles. I'm not saying you're wrong, I'm just curious as to what song you hear it in

I'm a lifelong Queen fan. When it came out in the early 80's I absolutely LOVED Hot Space. It was so much of it's time, but unfortunately because of that it's dated badly. But I still like it. It is a true Queen album, from a time when the band were trying new things, and trying to remain relevant (and sale-able!) in the new decade. Just listen to Power Windows and Signals by Rush. They were going through exactly the same process. I stopped collecting the Queen albums after A Kind of Magic (which I also loved/love) as I felt they went off the rails completely. Hence The Miracle I really don't like at all. It's got a very "lightweight" feel to it. All whimsical and drippy. That would be my worst Queen album - by far! Innuendo I haven't listened to lots, but I think it's better than The Miracle, although not as good as the earlier ones. Made in Heaven I listened to just once when it came out, but swore never to play in full again simply because it's too painful, being all about Freddie's passing. But it's still a good album.

Hot Space and The Works should be lowest but The Miracle and A Kind of Magic are extremely good. I would even say that A Kind of Magic was 2nd after Queen II and right before A Night at the Opera and News of the World, The Game and Jazz. Maybe The Miracle even before Jazz. I even watched Highlander after listening to A Kind of Magic... Didn't know the Movie before. Overall the 80's and especially 86 and 89 were some of the best Years of Music overall before it all went downhill in the 90s... My Opinion of Course. Best Songs : The Prophets Song, Father to Son and Who wants to live forever (all May Songs btw. 😉) These Albums are all pretty close though. It clearly shows that you were not around in the 80's and for that I pity you 😁It was a Lifestyle and Art, Music, Movies, Emotions and Feelings made the perfect Mix. Girls in the 80's were awesome aswell 😍When I think about the 70's I remember awful coloured Furniture, curtains and clothings and unwashed hair 🤣 Please watch "The 80s: PEOPLE - A Pop Culture Special" here on YT... and all the other Stuff of the 80's on "Vintage Tribute NEON".

There’s no ranking music objectively. All music is subjective. There’s only one way to rank a discography objectively and that would be by sales since it’s the only concrete metric there is in which case the Made in Heaven would be number one and the Miracle would be number two objectively.

You are an audiophile. That's cool. You're not a Queen fan. That's cool too. Now go hack and critique the Bay City Rollers. Tell us how much better they were in 1974 than Sweet and Queen and Bowie.

I was 12 in 1978 when Queen was at their peak. They were my favorite band. The 1980’s just ruined music

The 1980s DEFINITELY changed music, seemingly overnight. ‘70s artists had to either adapt to the new sound or fade into obscurity. Very sad.

@@TheMusicKingdom yep. I graduated high school in 1984. Oh the music was so bad! It was like torture after the wonderful 1970’s! Right now there isn’t really much to listen to. My 12year olds baseball walk up songs are typically led zep and rush and Boston. After hearing these he just can’t listen to any current “music”

@@TheMusicKingdom absolutely! I’m sure you are planning also on some “Rainy days and Mondays” and “Barracuda” and “She’s gone” and other 70’s classics! Looking forward to them!

Not current?! Álbum 2008, Roger solist work a year ago, today Brian relaunched Star Fleet, they're still making tours, a musical AND the Stravaganza, self tribute.

Queen had five GREAT albums and three GOOD albums. The first five were the "great" ones. The "good" ones were News of the World, Jazz and The Game. The rest of them can be thrown in a dumpster. 🫤🙄
