It has its moments. If you forget the “Queen” name on it and appreciate it for what it is, it’s a catchy, poppy album. That said, there are still some real stinkers on there, too!

Way better than Made In Heaven. It’s so boring, no rock. What’s with that 29 minute crap at the end too? Sent me to sleep. Never listening to that ever again. Hot Space is better too and more fun. Very underrated album. A Day At The Races is the most overrated Queen album. Apart from the singles it’s only average and way too many ballads. Everyone also puts Queen 2 in front of Queen but Queen is better

Made in Heaven is indeed boring, The Miracle in my opinion is their strongest 80’s effort (maybe aside from The Game).

Everyone put "flash Gordon" at the lowest place in the same way they put "yellow submarine" at the lowest place when ranking the Beatles catalog, and it makes sense: Both have few original songs and both have a soundtrack to the film

It only means most people don't have the attention to instrumentals... Plus, Flash Gordon is 100% original, while YS had George Martin scores, it's different

Agreed. Flash Gordon is no way near their worst. The Hero is outstanding and contains my favourite Brian May solo.

Brighton Rock did house May's guitar solo. But the solo started life on a Smile track called Blag, then built up over time during Son And Daughter in live shows.

Oh man I know this is going to be a great, interesting, and amazing video! It's interesting...The Miracle is probably one of my least favorite album covers of all time! I do like your connection to the unity of the band in reference to the cover though...I never considered that! Great ranking man! You're making me wonder where I'd rank these albums!

These Are The Days...is a Roger song and was not written about Freddie, though in years after Freddie died, they have accepted that Freddie's situation likely was also an unconscious influence on the song.

Queen is my all ltime favorite Rock band. Since i was 12 been listening to them way before " Waynes World " made Bohemian Rhapsody a house hold name.... Before Freddy cut his hair and grew a mustache. Before they were Arena rockers. Here's my rankin pix... Sheer Heart Attack, A Night at the Opera, Queen s/t. ,Queen 2 , A Day At the Race's , News of the World... Jazz., Its a Kinda Magic, The Game... The Works.... it don't get any better than this leaving hot space at the bottom of the pile

Great list my friend. I'll go out on a limb & say they're probably the closest band i can think of that comes close to the Beatles.....comes close.. anyway the varied styles that both bands seem to pull off so effortlessly without coming off as cheesey. Love the videos brother.

I have been so excited to see your ranking since you mentioned this video to me! You already know my ranking, but I'm excited to see how many we will agree or disagree on! It is so hard to rank their albums because I love them all in their own way. I think everyone puts Flash Gordon at the bottom...agreed though. OH NO! I love Hot Space!! I know so many people dislike the album though, so I get it! I LOVE The Miracle, it's funny that we are kinda flip-flopped on our thoughts because I love the album and dislike the album cover! Made In Heaven is amazing, I think I had it one spot lower than you, but I honestly agree I think it's good for what it is! I also love how you mentioned Made In Heaven being The Cross tune, you know I love Roger haha! I am not a huge fan of A Kind of Magic, it's not bad, I just feel like I come back to the hits more than anything else on the album, which is weird for me. Usually, I love the deep cuts just as much, if not more, than the hits! I love the album art though, I think it is some of my favorite from them! Oh wow, Jazz is lower than I thought it would be! I think that the appeal to Jazz for me is that it is all over the place, I love how different it is from all their other work. I am not a huge fan of The Works either, kind of the same thing with A Kind of Magic, the hits are great, I like a few deep cuts, but it's eh to me, I still love it though for what it is. Oh wow haha I can't believe we both ranked The Game at 8! I thought it was a rather low spot to give it because so many people love the album, and I thought that a lot of people would disagree with that in my video, but it's cool to know we have a lot of the same views on that album. Innuendo is much lower on my list, I like it and I do think it tends to be underrated. It just makes me so sad so I don't listen to it as much and I think that's what makes it so low on my list. I know Made In Heaven is very sad and somber, but to me, Innuendo makes me even sadder because of everything going on at that point. I had A Day At The Races one spot lower, I agree with your comment though Dylan! It seems like A Night At The Opera part 2. I love their S/T debut! I think it is just done so well! I honestly can't get enough of early Queen! Oh wow, I can't believe you put Queen II so low! I know it is your favorite, and definitely *almost* tied for my favorite! Yes!! I think I have News Of The World a tad lower on my list, but honestly, it's just so good! I have been obsessed with this album since December when I got the 40th anniversary box set for Christmas! This guy knows his music! Well spotted at 19:30 about Funny How Love Is having a Phil Spectre kind of sound. If you listen to Freddie's solo single I Can Hear Music, it has that exact same Phil Spectre 'Wall of Sound' sound aesthetic and it was deliberate. Queen reference it a few times. You can hear them employ the essential principles of the Spectre Wall of Sound live, especially during the closing of Crazy Little Thing Called Love and We Are The Champions. I remember The Miracle cover made a big splash at the time also because it was done using pretty much the cutting edge of computer photo manipulation software for the time. Incidentally - Apparently the early audiences began to regularly sing God Save the Queen at the end of Queen shows and essentially bullied the band into playing it, so they just ended up adding it as part of their set.

Made in Heaven for me, is so poignant, released as you pointed out after Freddie's passing, the lyrics just resonate with me.

Thank God someone finally rated Made In Heaven properly... I'm tired of reviews where people think the entire album was recorded post-Innuendo. The album, for me, is just lacking energy. It's fun, but it's missing Freddie's hands-on approach.

Flash and The Hero weren't the only songs performed live from the Flash Gordon album. Vultan's Theme was done live in Japan 1981.

@@TheRecordSpinner Little update: Jazz and AKOM have now been growing on me, and The Works is my new bottom (Flash still being my technical bottom.)

By 1979 i was in high school and had every Album, now many years later my list is a little different than yours, but one clear similarity, the line between the seventies and the eighties. I enjoy the eighties albums but the seventies are your and my favourite.

This was a fantastic video. However, it feels so blasphemous to put News of the World above Queen II and A Day at the Races lol. It’s a great record but pales in comparison to the sound of those albums. I am super biased to 1974 Queen though - it’s my favorite year for the band. Love your opinions on this!

I was only disappointed twice on the first plays of Queen albums. Flash Gordon, as I would have preferred no dialogue. Hot Space was the other, though it grew on me much later.

Any list that does NOT put HOT SPACE last is sus--AH...okay. Gotcha. But I would put Flash ahead of HS.

I never considered Made in Heaven as an original Queen album, I know it sounds strange because it is a Queen album but in my universe that album never happened. Ever. Queen’s last album was Innuendo, Made in Heaven is a conspiracy theory 🤣 PS Loved your review on the album catalogue of my fav band of all freaking time, it was honest and gave justice even though I don’t fully agree.
