    I'd reference fish as a better source of vitamin A than carrots. Due to varying genetics, some people aren't very capable, or capable at all of making the conversion from Beta Carotene to Retinol (Vitamin A). Like a lot of animal based foods, fish provides a more bio-available form of this nutrient.

    Thank you folks for the well wishes! Unfortunately my doctor didn't have anyone available to do my bloodwork so I need to go do that separately, but yes chances are I either have an Iron, B12, or Vitamin D deficiency. I'm also possibly anemic so that's dandy. But, on the good side, my BP is normal.

    Just recovering from iron deficiency anemia, wanted to let people know that you don't need to be a menstruating, an athlete or a vegetarian to not have enough iron! Mine came from caffeine, and not eating red meat after getting covid (which depletes your body of iron) supplementing iron and changing my habits has helped immensely, no more caffeine and I feel like a teenager again!

  • @michaeljara8552

    @michaeljara8552

    Ай бұрын

    I dont think it was the caffeine. They were probably drinking a lot of coffee or tea which contains tannins. Tannins inhibit non-heme iron absorption (iron from non-meat sources) but it doesn't inhibit heme iron (iron from meat). So a lot of tannins combined with very little meat consumption could lead to an iron deficiency

    I found it funny - I was on carnivore for 4 months... doctor praised the weight loss... but blood tests came back that I was severely anemic. Not exactly sure how that one happened. I was literally eating meat, cheese and eggs. O_o Best I can figure was I was potentially getting too much vitamin c from the water mix I made (lemon and lime were ok'd for this and there's a thing of not balancing your vitamin c and zinc that can cause your body to just refuse to make blood). Could have been my MTHFR giving me the middle finger for all the non-broken down B vitamins that I wasn't absorbing. Or something else. I still don't know. My doctor didn't understand how I was still able to function for how low my numbers were. I still don't know. I really wasn't tired but I had all the other symptoms.

    @@sofyacab went to the hospital and they did an ultrasound and a genital swab and everything came back looking fine. ended up struggling for a couple more months then my friend told me low magnesium could be the reason bc the ultrasound was okay but my diet was(still is tbh) pretty unbalanced and low magnesium is known to cause bad periods like this. i ended up taking the supplements for like a month (would recommend talking to a doctor before doing it but my doctors told me I was okay even though there was definitely smth wrong with me and they didn't even do a blood/urine test) and it helped. have to say my periods weren't ever really heavy/painful, just mild cramps at most. it's just that one day I woke up with awful cramps and heavy flow and none of the painkillers helped. i recommend going to the doctor just in case it's something serious, but magnesium deficiency can for sure also be the reason

    In my biology class, I was taught some visual shorthands to memorize what happens in different vitamin difficiency. They were more or less gorey, but because of it I still remember what they were more than a dozen years later. A: when you turn it sideways it looks like an eye from the side. (Two slanted strokes become eyelids, and one horizontal stroke becomes the cornea.) B: your legs swell up like the letter B. C: it's a mouth looked from sideways, and there is no teeth. Its gums are wasted from scurvy. D: your bones get weak, you can't stay upright, and your back become hunched. E: it could have been a closed rectangle but one side is open and exposed. When you put something important inside this you can't keep its contents safe and sound. (One of the symptoms I was taught at that day was difficulty starting/maintaining pregnancy.) K: blood (two diagonal strokes) is gushing out of the wound on your skin (long vrtical stroke), and it doesn't stop.

    Farm animals are given B12 supplements. Many omnivore humans lack B12. B12 is made by bacteria that exist in dirt in nature. Sanitised water and washing food and cooking it, removed B12 from our diets. And many current farming practices, removed it from farm animals' diets. Supplementation is essential.

    That would never happen in a grand majority of governmental societies because governments are too damn greedy and the government knows that when the population is healthy, they lose money. This is why it's a pure legality it's it's a almost a crock when you hear so many doctors say oh please consult with your doctor before taking any new supplements... That's a croc because we all know that most doctors will not advise you to just take nice cheap readily available supplements. Doctors tow the industrial line and they will just prescrib you very addictive and very profitable synthetic drugs. "When you are healthy, the government loses money". The way you can test the bare bare minimum political acumen of somebody is to tell them that statement and if they just disagree, then they are a tool for the mainstream media and they just put blind Faith into the government.

    Cod liver is literally full of toxins so what are you talking about? I'm from Germany and it is recommended by the BfR (translates to something like institute for risk evaluation) to only consume cod liver every 2 months AT MOST because of high amounts of dioxane and PCB. Also fish = lots of microplastics, heavy metals. I'll never understand people who'll say vegetables are toxic and then go on about shit like cod liver as part of a healthy diet. Also sun exposure puts people at higher risk of skin cancer so people are better off just taking the supplement in this case. But of course if people want to fry their skin, look like an old leather bag at 45 and don't care about cancer it's not my business. I just think to recommend it to people is ignorant. I know a lot of people who never used sunscreen and their skin just... Doesn't look good to say it politely and looking at their faces is literally my daily reminder to keep my skin protected from the sun because looking at them makes me uneasy.

    In the iron section I would note red meat is there as well. Especially the things we don't eat so much anymore like kidney or liver. A serving of liver is loaded with the equivalent iron of five eggs lots of vitamins c and a aswel. I think it's important to note the iron in fortified cereals is not as bioavailable as the iron in eggs and read meat and that cereals are often covered in pesticides and sugar. The balanced diet so many refer to always seem to leave out the animal sources with some of the most available nutrients.
