Hello, I'm a detox nurse and it's extremely important for alcoholics know a particular detail about withdrawal; it has a tendency to raise the blood pressure to extraordinary levels. If you have high blood pressure, you are at a much higher risk of having a heart attack or stroke, especially if your family has a history of these things. Also, high blood pressure happens more frequently in African Americans, and in men more than women. If you are at risk for any of these conditions, it is urgent that you do not try to quit drinking without medical supervision, seek help especially in a *medical detox.* If your drinking has been a problem for years, *please* consider this advice and seek medical help and advice when quitting drinking. *Do NOT go cold turkey if you get the shakes, rapid heart beat, heavy sweating or a feeling of panic. These are symptoms of an acute withdrawal condition and should see a doctor or seek help in an emergency room immediately. For your life and safety.*

It was really good, I finally was feeling like it was the answer but then I just finished everything I could watch of my little pony and it just started again. (sorry for bad English)

The religion part was clearly written by an athiest. I am an atheist, but trying to argue that a religious person "getting upset if they cannot perform their religious rituals" is a sign of addiction is crazy. That's like saying "a vegan that refuses a steak is addicted to veganism".

Even though he said "they can literally feel tingles when performing them", he didn't provide evidence or proof that this has a neurological connection.

No this guy actually has a point about religion addition. And trying to argue that a religious person "getting upset if they cannot perform their religious rituals" is not like saying "a vegan that refuses a steak is addicted to veganism". Because a vegan that refuses a steak is just not eating it, and therefore not doing it. I can't believe I have to explain how those two are not related.

Thanks for your comment, you are very young but you understand deep things and have learn important lessons from life that others won't or will never understand. I started at your age, I'm now 32. I still struggle but I'm in a full treatment with medications, therapy and support from control appointments with my psychiatrist. My meds were recently adjusted and now I'm seeing a slight improvement in one of my conditions, which is mayor depressive disorder. I have other psychiatric conditions roaming around, reason why I'm under a strict regime of meds. Therapy and a support network (even if it's just your doctor) is very helpful. I don't know what you're going through nor I need to know in order to empathize and understand, but I want to tell you that you are not alone, a stranger in the vast internet is very proud of your efforts. For food addiction, id like to add that one reason so many people struggle with it is that unlike taking drugs or drinking alcohol you CANNOT not eat. You have to eat. So every single meal, every single day, youll be tempted again. Thats why if you are addicted to food, operations like a bypass dont work long term unless you combine jt with therapy, to develope a healthy relationship to food again.

Thank you for talking about self harm addiction (and the other addictions for that matter) in an informative and nonjudgmental way. I was in really deep at one point in my life. I couldn’t go more than a few hours without causing myself some kind of pain. It was terribly hard to quit and I had a few relapses in the process but I’m at a place where I don’t feel the need to rely on it anymore. To anyone going through something similar, I urge you to ask for help. It’s a slippery slope and you can so easily cause severe damage. I can’t guarantee happiness but I do know that there’d be a really big void that you fill now and there’s no one else who can be you better than you. If you can’t live for yourself, then live out of spite and to outlive your enemies! Take care of yourself. You’ve got this. ❤

It’s also depressing to know that i won’t have a usual attraction to men (I’m a woman so it’s harder for me to find help aswell). I downloaded ‘I am sober’ which is a tracker for when you have a relapse and keeps a streak of how long since your last relapse. For me, I’m 2 hours away from 2 days since i relapsed on Saturday. It has really great support and motivation and reading other peoples stories is really helpful knowing your going through the same thing or if you have no one to talk to so I would highly recommend the app. if anyone’s going through an addiction: If you want to achieve something you’d have to suffer for it but *never* give up

The other factor that made me completely quit it was converting to christianity. If you want to do such act, switch your desire to another that is better, for example, you want to m-, then think about drinking water (and do so) and try to forget about your thoughts. It might be hard, but I think that will work.

When I was twelve, I randomly started self harming. I still can’t answer the, “why” question I always get from people as I still can’t understand my own actions. I was addicted for several years and even ended up in the hospital, lost friends, hurt my family, traumatized myself, and even got expelled from school because of it. As it says in the video, my normal self harm at the time was giving me less and less of the feeling I was craving, so I went to more extreme lengths to feel it again. I don’t want to say anything gory, so i’ll summarize by saying i’ve gone to dangerous depths and have permanently scarred my body with wide, noticeable scars. When I was unable to self-harm (Either having taken my tool away by a parent or losing it) I would use whatever I could. I would ask friends for razorblades, use rusty blades, and even once used sharp glass pieces I found outside a dumpster. These times were when I was around 13-14 and it was the worst it ever got. There was also a certain spot of twitter that I won’t name that worsened my addiction, as well as people who also had the same addiction that were encouraging me. These were my friends and I don’t blame them for their actions as we were in the same boat. I’ve been recovering from it for about a year now and have mess-ups sometimes, but it’s a lot better than how it used to consume every minute of my life. Not a lot of people, like my parents, didn’t quite understand how bad self-harm can escalate. There were even times I almost lost my life, on purpose and on accident. If you’re struggling with self-harm, please do whatever you can to quit. It’s scarring mentally and physically, even if you may not realize it yet as I didn’t back then. If you read all of this, then hi 👋 thanks for listening. ❤️

If they truly believe in these Gods they will obviously peform rituals or whatever to please/build a bond with the belief of their God and by that belief ,anything in the physical reality doesnt matter as that God is ultimately more powerful than any life force/weapon on earth. This guy is simply an atheist and simply pushes his views of being religious as an addiction because he comes from an atheist viewpoint. This is why people like these shouldnt put out any misinformation if they dont know anything about the subject they are talking about. This is why after the religious section i immediately denied the credebility of this Video as I could have consumed misinformation on parts I dont have experience on. Addiction has the same core drive. You lack. You end up picking one thing or sometimes two that are main drives to fill the lack. A balanced human experiences lack, but has far more things to fill the lack. You have hobbies, relationships, favorite foods, physical activity, perhaps meditation or relaxing things you do. You don't have all your eggs in one basket and only rely on a few or less avenues in which to delve emotional/physical well being into. Everyone lacks. Lacking is a part of how our brain simply works to always strive for more. it's how we improve and change as people. But when it's so severe or when a hobby/substance/activity is found that really takes away that feeling, it's very easy for it to become an addiction. This is also why people who are poor, struggling or otherwise feel disenfranchised are more at risk for gaining an addiction. There has been a ton of studies on this and more often than not they find that the mental component is just as much if not more of an indicator and also when it's helped and feels secure, usually the addictive behavior reduces significantly. Insecurity is the biggest drive for addiction. Feeling a loss of control, feeling hopeless, feeling unfulfilled. You fill it with something. Often if it's only one main thing, that thing isn't healthy. And this can extend to literally anything. Games, internet, fitness, diet, porn, animals, a singular hobby, being a parent. Anything can become that filler. People who make that one thing about them their entire personality are usually in this kind of boat, possibly addicted to the thing that they think characterizes them as a person. A good sign of being an addict is, can you not do x or y for an entire day or even a week? And I mean the specific thing you tend to do. Media consumption is more wide spread, as would reading books be. The idea would be can you do something different for a little while and still feel okay? If you scroll on the phone or watch youtube videos everyday and can't go with out or you feel irritable, annoyed or sad, then you might want to check if you're becoming desensitized to the stimulation you tend to seek out. Seeking stimulation is fine. Brains need it. Just shouldn't have the same thing over and over, especially not if that thing has proven scientific evidence to cause issues, like social media can or various other addictions shown in the video.

Point is that it's about reward centers and seeking reward over other behaviors. If your religion is your life and you have and engage in little else, that's probably not healthy. Now, I dislike all religions and find it enormously creepy to believe in anything, religious or otherwise as the term means to think or treat something as a fact regardless of information to prove validity or even in the face of something that disproves it. But no one regardless of anything should have only one thing be there thing. Be it a relationship, a hobby or anything else.

P-addiction is just a form of opioid addiction. You see, the feeling of coming is just release of large amounts of beta-endorphin. Endorphin is endogenous opioid. The P helps us to produce more of it, so it is basically the same as doing fent, but without physical addiction, because organism produces endorphin by itself.

I'll share a bit of my story and what's behind self harming. (Long comment, triggering topic) First of all, if you read this and you are thinking about trying it: ⚠️ STOP RIGHT NOW⚠️ Talk with someone, play some music, get cold water in your face or hold 2 cubes of ice with your hands, go to walk, do jumping jacks, call a emergency hotline, whatever it takes until your brain is distracted from the idea of harming yourself. Your own endorphins are helluva drug and your body will keep releasing them, it's free and at your reach 24/7. You see what happens with people that have a substance abuse? they need to get the substance, that implies money, time, availability, a place to buy it... Yet they go to the moon and back to get the substance and have their fix, now imagine that your body gives you all the "fix" you need for free and at any time... Nope, you don't really want to depend on this. I know that life is hard, there's a reason why you are considering that dealing anything you're going through with self harm will get better. Believe me, it won't. I started at 13, now I'm 32. I saw it on tv in a medical series and thought "well this seems extreme but the character is going through a lot of emotional pain and distress, so am I, why not trying?" I came to a point to know how much I needed to cut to go to sleep, to deal with the afternoon when I was back from school, before a test, when I was close to an anxiety attack... the need of feeling something or disassociate from something it's so strong that doing it every day isn't enough. Then you start to need it more than once per dar, then you find more small triggers to "calm down" or "get control over" a situation with your self harming behavior. It's also important to notice that not all self harm is just cutting. There's a lot of self harming behaviors and sometimes more than one is used as a coping mechanism, one behavior may be used in public because is more discreet than the other. Restrictions in basic physical needs are also self harm and it's really common to see a person that's using more than 1 self harming mechanism. The addiction comes as a vicious cycle of doing the act, then feel ashamed and guilty, then disappointedor angry at yourself and then needing to harm yourself. This cycle of emotions is so strong that you need to "unplug your brain" from feeling the pain and emotional distress, so the self harm comes in to numb you. In other moments you are numb way too much and there's a huge feeling of emptiness, like if you had a void, self harm comes and "awakes your mind" from that numb state. Rinse and repeat the cycle of shame > guilt > punishment. Not all people that harm themselves cut, some hitting themselves until they break bones or disjoint parts, others burn, and the most known one, the sharp-cutting type of pain. In my case I respond to the sharp-cutting type of pain more than anything. It depends of the type of pain your body reacts to and releases endorphins. Relapses can happen but all your work staying clean is still worthy of your pride and accomplishment. Keep the good fight. I'm proud of every effort you do. Don't think about being clean for one month, 6 months, a year... Do it one day at the time, fractions of the day at the time, you'll see how time flies. You are not alone, you are not disgusting, you are not less than others because you deal with this struggle. You deserve love, respect, patience and compassion. ❤

Really? It's the same as a cult addiction. For instance, take maga republicans. They cannot, WILL not listen to anyone else or even consider that someone else may have valid opinions, despite not agreeing with them. They are head-over-heels in love with 45, even comparing him to 'Jesus.' If that's not an addiction, there ain't no such thing.

I mean it makes sense to me, they have completely different places in society, and need to be approached and understood differently. I can’t just go to a Chili’s and order heroin with my meal. Alcohol consumption is very normalized in our society, readily available at restaurants, stores, and events. I have a lot of family who’ve struggled with alcohol (ex. lost my father to it last year) and drugs (ex. my aunt is a recovering addict) and they are very, very different.

Relationship addictions are more common for people with BPD, and can be with friends, parents, kids, or anyone they depend on for validation. I have a favorite person and a lot of what you described falls under that dynamic. Very codependent and hard to live with, but when they’re your everything, you rather die than lose them. But your codependency can push them away, which ends up hurting you anyway. It’s a struggle

Have to disagree with religious addiction. Religon isnt something to be measured by "other people." Religion actually calls for the opposite of moderation. People who are "moderate" often do religion because their friends and family do it.

Religion like all things doesn’t have to be an addiction. But MRI scans have shown that religious activity can stimulate the same parts of the brain as heroin. Religious addiction can lead to violence, extremism and alienation of ‘blasphemers’ even if they are family or friends.

  • @Harmonyoversegregation-gq1qd

Extremism is really the wrong definition to use in regard to people who hold the "incorrect understanding" of that religion that leads them hurt others. No religion advocates hurting people. The MRI scans don't tell the whole story. When I was a fanatic Christian years ago, I was being harrassed at the same time by my coworkers because I had anxiety along with being a fanatic. Harrassment and fanaticism together can definitely lead to negative results.

@@Harmonyoversegregation-gq1qd"No religion advocates hurting people" That is right, however, they (can) justify it. As addiction like drug, alcohol addictions make addicts' life revolve around these substances, religion can do the same. And only CAN. Like with everything there is a healthy amount. Same applies to religion. But fanatism leads to extremism and vice versa. That's not healthy, and in fact, is dangerous.

  • @Harmonyoversegregation-gq1qd

"Can" is the right word. However, in the realm of practicing religion, the professionals in the field would be priests, nuns, monks, etc. Anyone outside of that really has no say of "religious moderation." A medical doctor cant tell thier patient "You're being too religious, you need to tone it down a bit for your health." They can only say something like, "Since you're a vegan for religious reasons, you need to eat more beans and nuts to accommodate your lack of eating meat for your health. That is why religious addiction shouldn't be a thing. It is not like alcoholism, substance abuse, or other addictions that actually physically and mentally harm your health.

My father has a relationship addiction to his former(now late) wife. She divorced him almost 15 years ago now and he still hasn't gotten another wife or girlfriend. This also isn't for lack of interest, he's been propositioned by co-workers and my older brother set up at least one date which he refused to go. He just stubbornly refuses to move on, even 15 years on and nearly half a decade after her death.

I’ve only self harmed four times in 3 years so idk if I count as addicted but for me the motivation was anger. I had all this rage and hatred building up in me from years and years of abuse, and I had to take it out on something but I was also terrified of inflicting pain and hurt on someone else. So I hurt myself in anger as the next best thing. It felt cathartic. Someone had to pay for all the shit I went through, and I was the only person I didn’t feel guilty over hurting. Plus it turned my mental pain into something tangible and physical, something that was “worth” being upset about. It’s dumb logic I know but when you cut you’re clearly not thinking straight.

It surprises me about how difficult it is to regain confidence after letting go of things even before they truly become addictions.(i hope that makes sense) After taking part in a little bit of each of these things it took me 9 months to feel in control of myself again. I noticed myself becoming consumed in constantly wanting to be drunk after being drunk only 4 different times- and it took 9 months of holding myself back to feel okay with myself (I hope that makes sense). And sometimes with things like sh I'll relapse because of something triggering.

One crucial addiction should have been added to the list. Mindless scrolling addiction. It is one is the most common addiction these days. People just cannot stop picking their phone and start scrolling TikTok, Instagram reels, KZread shorts etc. giving a false sense of knowledge because their minds are used to absorb new information in 2 minutes, shortening the attention span and creating a craving for “new information “ that they don’t actually receive. And now, with the targeted content based on consumer’s profile, it has become like a informational pandemic.
