I have arithmophobia. I can do basic math fine and I’ve taken tests that confirmed that my math skills are well above average, but when I see any sort of math problem that’s convoluted with numbers/algebraic letters/fractions, I get extremely stressed out and I just want to look away from it. My dad would force me to stay up until midnight doing my math homework when it was hard for me to grasp the processes of solving the equations back then (gotta love learning disabilities), so I’d be stuck trying to solve problems that I had no idea how to solve without taking any breaks whatsoever. It really didn’t help that most of my math teachers were awful and made the experience even worse. So now, I’m terrified of the thought of having to do complex math problems even though my mind is perfect for solving them.

@iOmMiO I probably am not as scared of math to an extreme degree like not being able to solve simple problems, but I’m absolutely serious. I didn’t mention anything much about what happens because I didn’t want to make the entire comment too long, but here’s the unabridged version of what happens: I physically cannot solve or even look at anything with fractions or long algebraic equations or else I start to shut down. I start shaking and hyperventilating and eventually, I have to stop looking at it because I get too stressed and freaked out. How I was evaluated for my math skills was through word problems and simple problems I could do on my own. If those word problems were presented in raw numbers, I wouldn’t have been able to solve them.

Glad to see I'm not alone. It's rough that you went through that. I personally still remember my mother screaming at me for not knowing how to do long division, so I get freaked out when I see long division, and get uncomfortable around more complex math when technically, I can do the math just fine. Arithmophobia is not fun, everyone thinks I'm weird or crazy for being scared around long division, so, you're not alone.

Here a phobophobia "victim" struggling with this type of phobia. In the past when I heard about phobophobia I found it weird and funny because i thought it was impossible to develop such a thing. My struggle with phobophobia begun in 2023, and yes fear makes me have panic attacks, because, in my case, when I have huge anxiety I tend to pass out or vomit. So in this case I guess phobophobia is generated by the fact that fear and anxiety can trigger some unpleasant feelings within the victim (such as vomiting or passing out) which make the victim fear these feelings and tends to be scared of its own fear feeling, because he knows that it's gonna trigger those distressing feelings. Im currently talking with my doctor and my family members to fix this issue and have a peaceful life, so far I've been fighting it very well. Also what you said in the video is accurate: Who suffers from phobophobia tends to avoid social interaction at all costs because of this costant fear of having anxiety or a panic attack. It's accurate because I used to do that and I also avoided eating food because I was afraid to vomit aswell.

I don’t have somniphobia (afaik. My psychiatrist just said PTSD) but I have a lot of anxiety with the thought of sleeping. My best friend had a psychiatric emergency and if I hadn’t woken up (by chance) he likely would’ve died. So it’s really scary going to sleep even though I know everything’s fine now. It sucks. EDIT: Changed near death experience to psychiatric emergency since that would be more accurate

i'm sorry about that.. i hope it's getting better for you. i also don't have somnophobia but about a year ago when my schizophrenia was pretty severe and untreated i would hallucinate a lot and experience delusions, especially at night. this usually had to do with my intense fear of earthquakes and tsunamis, i'd be scared to fall asleep in case an earthquake hits while i'm asleep. i would hallucinate earthquakes and call my family members to check if there's actually an earthquake happening or if i'm crazy. one time it got so intense that i straight up started running up a hill in the middle of the night because i was convinced there was a tsunami about to hit. i'm honestly impressed with myself for not just surviving this, but also maintaining excellent grades at school because at this same time i was 14 years old, temporarily living alone due to some complications, suffering from social anxiety and severe anorexia (i would not eat at all, and when i did, i'd limit my intake to 150 calories). i'm so glad everything's fine now, i hope i never have to experience something like that again and i also hope you recover from your fear as soon as possible. i feel bad when i see people saying things like this because i know what it's like.

I had sleep paralysis once. It wasn't scary as I didn't hallucinate anything. I just noticed that I couldn't call out and I could not move any limb. So I just kept my breathing shallow until the rest of my body woke up. When I was a lifeguard, we had to clean pools and we had a mask connected to an air compressor. Where you had to take shallow breaths to be able to stay underwater. So I learned to not panic and take shallow breaths from my experience of cleaning pools. Edit: I also received 2nd degree sunburn and sun poisioning twice and didn't develop heliophobia.

Holy- It's so rare my phobia gets brought up. I have casadastraphobia/anablephobia. Things like kites, helium balloons, fireworks, even clouds- they bother me if I'm also under open sky. Looking directly into the sky or even a really high ceiling gives me terrible anxiety and vertigo. It's so irrational, but I can't help it. It's silly because I'm not a naturally frightful person, in fact (beyond horrible tragedies) I can't think of anything that "scares" me beyond looking up. It's pretty inconvenient considering the sky is pretty standard regardless of where you are. I will say, I don't mind looking out windows- I use clouds to help inspire my doodles. I don't even feel the anxiety while in a car. But the fear is as simple as: "What if I just inexplicably fell into the sky?" and the answer is: "I wouldn't care for that one bit..." If I'm trying to psycho-analyze myself: I remember the fear first arising when I was just a sprout while at a baseball game, likely a Guardians (Indians at the time) game. I let a balloon go and stared at it while it rose into the sky and I watched it get smaller and smaller and smaller- and then it was gone. I've gone into great detail about this elsewhere, but it feels like I could *feel* the fear forming. At first it wasn't a fear of the sky, it was just a nagging confusion (I've equated it to a newly realized fetish). Balloons bothered me when they were outdoors and I hated flying kites, and I don't recall ever INTENTIONALLY looking up I don't think I was scared of it at first. Then I was reminded of the fear often enough to cement it. Every time I tried to break myself of the fear, it kinda just became stronger. I'd try to just fly kites to show myself it wouldn't hurt me and I would end up in the fetal position gripping onto the thread like a freak because I "felt the sky pulling". I'd try to look up at something very tall outside and I'd end up vomiting. It seems so silly, but it is actually kind of annoying how long I've had this fear. I'm 26 now. I have moments of peace on my back porch, where I'll stargaze for a bit before dread overcomes me and I need to go inside. Funny enough, NOT afraid of heights at all. I can go in planes, those don't bother me. I could probably even go in a hot air balloon; but seeing one of those giant holiday parade balloons in person? *Absolutely not.* Thanks for discussing it, I feel *seen* .

Everyone was having fun, but me. I was crying, not wanting to sit on it because I thought it would hurt me when it pops, and the noise of the balloon popping bothering me. It was a quite traumatic experience, and I was 4 at the time.

In my case, having globophobia (10:15) is caused by hoplophobia. As someone who has been in gun violence situations more times than I can count, I've developed hoplophobia (the intense and extreme fear of firearms such as guns). For my friends and I who have globophobia, all have different forms of it. I have the intense fear of them popping and creating the same noise as a gunshot causing a panic atack. My friend however has an icky fealing when hearing the squeek of a baloon rubbing against something.

I don’t exactly know what started it but I do remember not having it for a while, then heading a balloon pop again and then after that I would run out of the room crying every time someone would blow up a balloon because I was scared shitless of the noise. I’ve grown over this fear thankfully and now I don’t mind the noise as much.

For a while, I refused to say "teenager" because I refused to be anything but a child. It's part of the reason I never learned any lige skills and still wear clothes from when I was 11 or 12. I used to cry about having birthdays or growing even a tiny bit taller. I also used to try to bind my chest and hyperextend my knees to look shorter and more childlike. Definitely a tough one, but even tougher now that I'm turning 20 this year. 💀😭
