The saddest part about "Things Change" imo is when Beast Boy visits the place he and Terra hung out at in the episode "Betrayel" and is depressed feeling nostalgia.

Man....we needed more Red X, he's such an underused character and was hands down one of the coolest characters on the show imo. I would've loved to see him interact with other characters besides the titans or learn more about him and his whole feud with Robin or even his backstory as we know almost nothing about him.

I can understand why most people don't really like "Things Change" because it left the series on a cliffhanger and unanswered questions, but you know what? Some things are better off unsaid. If the sixth season ever happened, they'll probably have Terra do one last major role that talks about how she got out of her stone or if the girl is a double and later on, she makes a cameo appearances in the background. I don't know how a redemption arc will work for her, because I doubt the Titans (except for Beast Boy who easily forgiven Terra and is determined she can still be in the team again) will still let her back into the team ever since she betrayed them, I know they all have forgiven her during her sacrifice, but even if they found out she's still out there somewhere alive, I feel like deep down they still have trust issues towards her and feels reluctant to give her a third chance (since she was offered to join the team like twice) and it's like Raven said "The last time we saw Terra, she wasn't exactly one of the good guys. Maybe she didn't want to be found".

Season 5 was in a really bad position. Having to follow-up Raven's story & several characters of the week hurt. Didn't help that the ratings were on the low side too for the Titans

i wonder what a bigger budget 13 episode no stand alone ep serial fully plot drama focused not movie production follow up season 5 could of looked like...the movie for sure made the budget for the last season fall short and put stress on everyone i feel to do both...season 5 when it focused on its main arc aka beast boy and the brotherhood was great...otherwise it just felt like more of the same comedy and played out character interaction stuff we got for 4 seasons...nothing new..i kind wanted 13 eps dedicated to beast boy being cool the brotherhood being a bigger threat than slade and a bigger threat to the titans at least than trigon even really since raven could protect her friends from his evil force wrath with her powers as long as they hid when he arrived and did not face him....we did not need any more stand alone eps or character focused stuff...save that for past seasons..make season 5 one big finale arc

It's so ironic that the final episode, which was meant to tell the audience "Show's over, move on" has been the epicenter for most fan theories in the 15 years since and one of the main reasons people want the show brought back. Personally, I don't think that girl is Terra for multiple reasons and hope that if they ever bring it back, she'd have a full redemption arc.

The two most common beliefs are that this is either Raven reversed the spell to bring Terra back...but her mind was wiped of the unfolded events dating back before she gained her powers. That or, after being resurrected by Raven's Spell, Terra chooses to forget them and move on with her life so she won't further harm BB nor any of the Titans like she did in the past. And preferably, I find the latter rather amusing considering they could've given her one last episode as a send-off if TT were signed back on for Season Six.

This is honestly my one favorite season, though I have to admit that it feels rushed a lot of time. The idea that the titans have to fight against a force that not only are on equal footing but can outthink them is a fantastic concept. They’ve fought trigon, but he was a demon that they were allowed to go brute force at. Here? They have to face a group that is able to completely destroy you. I love seeing how the titans completley get separated and defeated towards the end, leaving only beast boy. Seeing the titans in such a helpless situation because of being outsmarted is such a depressing scene. Unfortunately, it ends up kind of too ambitious to cover in one season. The brotherhood of evil aren’t really characterized well as we don’t get much time with them, so we aren’t able to learn anything about them unless you read the comics. The season does fine with making sure that you get some time with the honorary titans like the titans east and kid flash (who I have no idea why he isn’t on the main roster) whcih helps in case you don’t know these guys since they aren’t exactly popular characters. However, that kind of gets ditched towards the end as they show a bunch more honorary titans...that you honestly have to read the comics to know who they are, otherwise they’re just cameos that you won’t understand. I think having more episodes where we got each episode dedicated to a honorary titan, and the climax being some sort of generic villain that’s revealed to have been a proxy by the brotherhood would’ve worked a lot better. We could get time with the honorary titans, see how manipulative the brotherhood could be, and the build up to the finale would’ve worked better. Instead of how rushed It felt with the hopelessness kind of just getting resolved off screen for some titans. However, due to the limited time they had, it ends up rushed. Though I do like that they made beast boy the contributing factor to their defeat considering he’s the one who faced them.

Lightspeed is my favourite episode I like the way the H.I.V.E Five is portrayed and how the episode focuses on the villains for once. Also... Kyd Wykkyd is cool

The symbolism of Terra in Things Change was great, you still forgot a subtle detail When Terra closed her fists before spilling the drink, you can see the ice cubes sink downward. This could possibly have been foreshadowing that she still has her powers

Honestly I feel the same way about the Doom Patrol and the homecoming episodes. As of right now that's as far as I am into the video.

Adult commentary channels are usually awful when it comes to children's shows and you proved that tremendously. It seems like to you the darker a season is the better when in reality something doesn't have to be extremely dark or depressing to be great. Adults should stop reviewing children's shows since y'all don't actually understand what it takes. Besides that your commentary is incredibly lackluster and biased. I can tell from this video that you're a Robin x Raven fan.

anyone who does not give things change a 5/5 for its attempt is an idiot..end of story..the fact he did proves he understands good fictional writing..period...i like that...people taking risks showing the possible negatives of love are always hated on in writing for not showing the propped up main will they won't they couple get together at least by the end but i appreciate the other side of things...it can be just as powerful to see terra reject bb for her own sake for his growth to accept that as seeing beast boy and terra get together and not really change as characters...

homecoming part 1 and 2 is great

This season is very overhated. It’s way better than Season 3 but was a step down from Season 4. It felt rushed most of the time and ended the series on a huge cliffhanger. Hopefully it they ever make a season 6 they will finish the story and give Starfire a season to end the series on a better note.

Teen Titans is still my favorite cartoon series to this day, I loved the honesty throughout the review and I agreed with most of what you said, thanks for doing this amazing cartoon!

Only Season 1 - 4 were great; Season 5 is a mixed bag for me. It’s cool to see all these many characters coming together in an almost JL Unlimited-esque fashion, but the show is “Teen Titans.” I wanna see more struggles and themes being played out for the Titans

I don’t count the comics, mostly because “things change” was a conclusive ending to the show and continuing the show seems inappropriate. The whole reason I find the last episode interesting are multiple interpretations about what was real and fake. The comics were meant for a much younger demographic so subtlety was not a focus.

Season 5 aired from September 24, 2005 to January 16, 2006.

I hate to disagree with you, but "Lightspeed" is not only my least favorite episode of the series, but possibly my least favorite episode in ANY series. I honestly think it's the main reason why Cyborg isn't more popular in the fandom. Jinx ending up with Cyborg could've tremendously helped out his popularity; a big part of the other Titans' popularity is related to Robin x Starfire and Beast Boy x Raven being popular ships in the fandom.

While I agree that Jinx should have been more prevalent in Cyborg’s season 3 arc, having them end up together that early likely couldn’t have worked. Therefore, they had to do a Jinx episode later in the series. I’m in belief that they knew season 5 was the last one only once they started making it. With Cyborg out, they had to have some other hero take Jinx out of evil. While I definitely see the disappointment in Cyborg’s lack of involvement in her redemption, I did enjoy Kid Flash terrorizing the Hive Five, and the Rouge fights were pretty good. Cyborgs lack of a definitive partner did likely make him the de facto 5th most popular Titan

However, while I understand that you think Season 3 might've been too early for a Cyborg-Jinx canon relationship to happen, why couldn't it have happened in Season 5? It just felt like the opportunity was completely robbed from him. Speaking of Season 3, would you mind explaining why you think it wouldn't have worked that early? To me, that seemed like the perfect time to do it. Jinx (and her teammates) could've realized how much of a sadistic psychopath Blood is and turned against him without outright turning good. As "X" showed us, morality isn't black and white. As for Cyborg's popularity, guess where Cyborg is ranked in # of fics on fanfiction.net? Fifth? Nope. TENTH. Here are the top 10 ranked by # of fics mainly focused on them: Raven: 16.6K Robin: 11.5K Beast Boy: 10.8K Starfire: 6.6K Jinx: 1.7K Slade: 1.6K Terra: 1.6K Kid Flash: 1.3K Red X: 1.2K Cyborg: 1.1K Had Jinx ended up with Cyborg instead, we could likely take most of Kid Flash's fics (say, 1.2K of them) and give them to Cyborg, giving him a total of 2.3K. He'd still be the least popular Titan, but at least he'd be a Top 5 popular character overall. It genuinely feels like Kid Flash has more focused fan work than Cyborg despite being a one-off character. Cyborg probably appears in more work overall, but that's mainly due to being included in fan works of the entire team, even if he isn't the focused-on character.

The reason that Jinx and Cyborg ending up together in season three is that the show likely wanted to have Cyborg (and the rest of the Titans) canonically single for the duration of the show. Even Star and Robin are not together until the last few minutes of the post-series movie. Some episodes, such as Cyborg the Barbarian, even hinge on the fact that Cyborg has a love interest. However, while the Hive's small appearences in episodes such as Mother Mae-Eye and Cyborg the Barbarian would be relatively easy to rework, the problem then comes with show's relunctacy to change. The show very rarely makes series impacting changes, that last and affect characters for more than a season. While Slade and Terra stuff was allowed to change, the only other real change that lasted for multiple seasons was Star getting her eyebolts in Transformation. There was no way that the show would a. Make the Hive (Or just Jinx) good when they were One of the titans most marketable foes or b. Give Cyborg a frequently mentioned relationship with a villain. While these limitations are certainly frustrating at times, the show's rather rigid Season arcs sometimes gets in the way of smaller stuff.

@@AmpleSamuel Good points, though I'd like to counter. Catwoman was one of Batman's most marketable foes, and her romance with Batman is one of the most well-known and cherished in the entire DCAU. And like I said before, the HIVE wouldn't be outright "good;" they'd be more like Red X-style thieves, looking out for themselves first and committing crimes like always, but perhaps helping the Titans in scenarios of real danger (like arc villain-level danger). The HIVE appear infrequently enough to where a Cyborg-Jinx relationship being canon wouldn’t have a seismic impact on the show overall. Had my version of Cyborg's arc been real, I'd have moved "Crash" to Season 4 and added Jinx into the episode. Jinx dragging along a reluctant Gizmo to help get Cyborg acting right again could've made for some great comedy. Gizmo would also need to reign in his hostility, considering here he’d have the added burden of not wanting to let his leader down. I’d also have Jinx stand up for Beast Boy when he wants to help fix the mistake he caused and the other Titans constantly shoot him down. Seeing Beast Boy unanimously disagreed with was hard to watch, and having somebody in his favor from the start could’ve helped out that episode. In “Mother Mae-Eye,” I would’ve added a small moment where Jinx takes a photo of Cyborg at the mall when he’s in his raincoat and say “That’s going in the album.” When Mother herself appears, I’d have her grab Jinx and warn her to stay away from Cyborg, a brief commentary moment on overprotective mothers. As for “Cyborg the Barbarian,” that episode could’ve remained the same, just with the romantic undertones removed. That’s a grand total of two episodes in Season 4 that the relationship would be mentioned in. If any episode would need to be dramatically reworked, it’s “Lightspeed,” but that’s a different story entirely.

I agree that this would have definitely been an improvement for the show, (and honestly wouldn’t terribly miss Mother Mae-eye or Cyborg the Barbarian.) Jinx being a consistent side character would have been really cool, but the normally episodic episode format likely kept them from attempting something like that. Great write-up though, very interesting to think about!

my least favourite episode(s) were homecoming. I never really liked it. And my fav is lightspeed. I really liked how jinx interrupted the intro.

while i understand your criticism on the Doom Patrol, i also feel there was a ... sort of translation issue with them. See, The Doom Patrol always carried a suicidal undertone with it, as they were DC's version of X-Men, they too were about being so different, so "broken" that the world wanted them gone. And that sort of "go out in a blaze of glory" mentality doesn't translate well to Teen Titans, or atleast not with the way they did it. But i did hear it in Mento's "you just delayed our destruction" line. In Teen Titans it comes out of left field exspecially as a season starter, but if you have background knowledge... well one tends to be more forgiving.

It's amazing how Kole and Raven are voiced by the same woman... Tara Strong is so totally out of this world.

Episode 9 gives me Wacky Races vibes.
