When I was 17, I got the rapid, extremely deadly version of meningitis - meningococcal septicemia. In less than 10 hours I went from having just a very mild fever and 2 red dots on my left arm to having 41°C fever, having limbs covered in a purple rash, and being half paralyzed. I had this weird feeling I cannot describe, but I knew it meant I was dying. I got rushed to the ER when it became clear it was only getting worse. The doctors immediately put me into the ICU on a giant load of antibiotics and told me that I was very lucky because if we waited just a few more hours or even worse, overnight, I would almost certainly die, as the sepsis would eventually cause total organ failure. Or if I was lucky enough to survive, my hands and feet would have to get amputated and I would suffer other life-long consequences.

I had a rare case of lyme caused meningitis recently. For about 3 days, i had a mild headache, and then suddenly in a day, i developed a fever, began vomiting, and had partical facial paralysis. Not only did i have debilitating headaches, but the combination with lyme caused hypocardia. I was in the hospital for about a week while they pumped me full of antibiotics, and couldnt stand without passing out. For about a month afterwards I couldn't be upright for more than 10 minutes without a severe migraine and nausea. Even almost a year later, i still have noticeable numerological defects, like migraines, brain fog, and reduced congitive function. Fucking ticks man.

Easily treated with meds your Doc will give you for free. Alternatively, putting it off for a decade achieves a lovely brain eating dementia and gives something fun to share with Al Capone as you lose the ability to interface with the reality around you. Then, long after the ability to beg for death or find self-absolution has been lost, sweet release. Just getting checked once in a blue moon makes this go away easier than a hang nail though, otherwise we'd all be walking around with our faces falling off looking like a presidential candidate.

Love how some are saying they're never going outside again LOL. Hate to tell ya, I had bacterial spinal meningitis as an infant. A friend of the family carried it and she held me. Ended up packed in ice due to high fever, had to have a spinal tap (thank goodness I don't remember that lovely procedure), and ended up having to have my hair shaved off so they could put the IV in my head (my veins were too small and kept collapsing). Was in the hospital for almost a month and came out just fine (no deafness, blindness, not paralyzed, nothing). With meningitis though, unlike for some of us, there is a vaccine available. (I'm in my 40's. Had spinal meningitis at age 4 months old). It's scary, but preventable. It's deadly in babies and the elderly.

Ivan the Terrible wasn't sick with syphilis. Or at the very least, it's highly unlikely he was. The hypothesis is based around the fact that his bones contain abnormal amounts of mercury. Mercury was used as a cure for syphilis at the time, and thus the hypothesis. Tsar was sick with arthritis, as evidenced by osteophytes formed on his skeleton. It is highly likely that mercury was used to treat that, it is also possible it was used as the means of poisoning (although unlikely) .

My dad died from Hepatitis C. Where it was a lot like what was said about B in this video. He got it relatively early in his life until finally when he was 59, it struck without warning. Causing severe liver failure and death within a few days. We still miss him to this day as he was an amazing dad.
Just continue the good work, subs raising rapidly

Yes, syphilis can indeed be deadly if not properly treated. It can evolve into late forms with involvement of vital organs, such as the heart and central nervous system, which can cause serious complications and even death.

Just getting checked once in a blue moon makes this go away easier than a hang nail though, otherwise we'd all be walking around with our faces falling off looking like a presidential candidate.
one must imagine syphilis happy or smth

I'm scared :(

Ivan the Terrible wasn't sick with syphilis. Or at the very least, it's highly unlikely he was. The hypothesis is based around the fact that his bones contain abnormal amounts of mercury. Mercury was used as a cure for syphilis at the time, and thus the hypothesis. Tsar was sick with arthritis, as evidenced by osteophytes formed on his skeleton. It is highly likely that mercury was used to treat that, it is also possible it was used as the means of poisoning (although unlikely) .
