Bro this is why I say he is the GOAT. there's a way that he fought that made it look so obvious that he was just clearly on another level. And his frame wasn't God-gifted like Jones, dude just had immense martial arts prowess and outclassed his opponents on skill and ability alone. Look how easily he could get up from ground positions and switch positions. In the first Chael fight he nearly pulled out due to his ribs, no way he was 100%, but still found the victory. The 2nd Chael fight is more how it would have looked if he was healthy. Give credit to Chael, he brought the heat and pressure, but Prime Silva would have never had that type of match against Chael. Everyone else, the level difference was clear. By the time he lost to Weidman, he'd been champ for so long, he started losing that prime peak. He let himself get "flat-footed", as he explained in a class after that fight, which as he said you should "never do". But it's clear to see that when he was on top and healthy, guy was damn near untouchable. His clinches and scrambles were world class. Striking was devastatingly accurate, could hit you with kicks and knees anywhere damn near anytime. You're talking a truly MASTERFUL fighter. There's a reason at one point in time, Joe Rogan LITERALLY called him "the [p4p] greatest fighter in the history of the world", and its because of exactly the quality of what he would demonstrate at the absolute apex of combat sports. Prime Silva beats every MW contender today. Prime Silva would give Prime Jones and Prime GSP both a run for their money. People like to say wrestlers were his weakness and they cite the ONE Chael fight. In reality Prime Silva is so damn crafty and can move like the Matrix , he certainly has a chance to win both of those dream fights. Regardless, Prime Silva is the GOAT imo purely based on the skill sets he demonstrated as champion on that legendary run.

His "style" was always entertaining. Unlike all those BJJ only user who would try to just lay on the mat. His striking game was incredible considering hes not very big or hench very "strong". But those punches were throw with pure precision. If a fly was on ya. He would hit it.

Thank you for this! Literally paused at the Hendo fight because I had to comment on the Rich Franklin fight! I remember that fight, Silva was on another level! Might have actually been my first UFC PPV Buy thinking about it!! His Thai Clinch was terrifying, even when Rich got out & swung a few punches? Silva hit him with a Jab, a body shot, a leg kick that nearly knocked him down! A knee, more knees! Dude just SWARMED him!! His submission game was next level too! Silva has to be one of the best to fight in UFC! If not MMA as a whole.

I was a huge GSP fanboy back then, but when I saw how he lost to Weidman, damn it feels like seeing Jesus losing to someone... That's how terrible it felt. Silva has always been superhuman in my eyes, but seeing him transform back into a regular man that day just felt devastating. Speaking of being a GSP fan, too bad his superfight against Silva didn't come to fruition. That is still the biggest what if to me, on who's gonna win between them during the time when the both of them were basically the top 2 fighters of UFC (although tbh I'm leaning more into Silva at that time despite being a GSP fan haha).

Anderson Silva was the greatest middleweight that ever lived. I still get pissed when I see that triangle in the 5th round against Sonnen. He should have became a champion that night, and would have been able to feel like he kept his promise to his father, not that he should ever be ashamed of losing. He gave his best effort, and came so close. It really showed his quality as a fighter, and in my opinion Sonnen is a UFC HOFer. Losses like that are soul crushing when you're dominating such a great fighter for literally 5 rounds straight, and you still fall just short with a single error. That's what separates mma from boxing. It can end at any second in many different ways. That's why I don't judge a fighters record in the mma the same way as in boxing. What really matters in mma is the quality of the fights you are involved in, how well you performed, the determination you show, the level of competition, as well as the fights you win. To win a title at all means so much in mma, let alone successfully defending your title no matter what weight class you're fighting at. The competition is so skilled, and you have to fight the top guys to get anywhere near the top in the UFC. The belts change hands so often that it's something special when a champion has a long title reign no matter what division it is in. Even defending the title one time in mma is a great accomplishment. In a lot of cases, even HOFers fall short of their title hopes in the UFC.
