Even God Could Not Make a Place So Safe That It Did Not Have a Snake In It. | Jordan B Peterson

The Garden of Eden, which was protected by walls, and God, still had chaos appear in the form of a snake.
An ancient representation of the dragon can be found worldwide. This symbol of chaos contains lessons from the past that are worth preserving today. We do not live in nature, and we do not live in society, we live in an amalgam.
Do you think there is a place so safe that chaos cannot find it's way in?

@Big Smoke basically, his wife had really bad cancer and he had some emotional issues dealing with that and the stress of daily life so his doctor put him on an antidepressant to help with the anxiety but he had a horrible reaction to the meds and got dependant on them, every time he tried to get off it was unbearable he said so he had to go back on them. But they are dangerous to take long term so he had to go to a specialist in Russia to detox safely and get off them, but he still hasn't fully recovered, he's got some brain issues after basically being in a coma for weeks that makes him have trouble thinking clearly. Also I heard he got covid recently just to top it all off...

I told my mom that Dr. Peterson has coronavirus, as well as keeping her updated with what his condition was throughout the last year. Although she is not personally familiar with Peterson, or what he does, she knows that he is my academic hero. She told me to “meditate and pray for him and his good health.” She is not religious, but her supporting my concern for this man made my week. So, folks, we need to meditate and, perhaps using the law of attraction or some shit, send Peterson some good vibes. Let the universe know that we are here for him :)

I really, really appreciate how well Jordan is able to de-faith religion. As in, I'm an atheist. I don't literally believe, on faith alone, anyone else's stories about why all this is here. But what Jordan does is say, 'These stories might not be literally true. But there has to be a reason why they have survived over thousands and thousands of years. And we can puzzle out what it is, that millions of ancient people could not fully understand, but still felt in their core that There Is Something Here.' Jordan extracts the practical wisdom from myth; that which is universally useful to anyone.

  • @CloudWithoutASky

I mean. Its tangential what these stories symbolize and if the actual stories are factually true to the past. Art imitates life. You can't really de-faith religion in the general broad sense. Because faith is a construct that is measured differently for every being. You just lack the faith to believe after hearing the psychology behind genesis. No problem to it. You're just different and you lack any faith.

If "there is something here." Then there is something there. The subconscious lesson of the stories we're already written into us so there was nothing new to learn here... that is until we might see there is a new truth to our life.

I don't see it as God can't define a space that there's no dragon in it. I believe that God decided to put us in places that always have dragons. And I recall the idea in the Taoist thinking that there's no light without darkness, happiness without sadness and so on. So by encountering the dragon we improve ourselves and our realization of who we really are.

No light without darkness and no happiness without pain is a really interesting idea, its hard to tell if it's true outright or if pain just makes happiness more meaningful rather than meaningless if pain didn't exist. The concept of heaven would seem to have issues of being a true paradise if that concept is true, i don't really know what to make of that.

functionally the same idea. But when looked at from a Jungian influence - the idea becomes much more visceral if God and The snake are analogous to light and darkness or sadness and happiness. You are on the right line of thought, but the leap you are contesting with is one that culture is also contesting with and is, therefore, IMO, pathological...

Well my gardens and home have never been chaos and have always been well taken care of (as best I could with animals and kids), and both my garden and my homes have always been neatly groomed and orderly. However, with the Liars Club hot on my heals with every move I make, it does cause lots of chaos. So the snake is the one who causes chaos, but the sweet innocent angel is always moving about in an orderly fashion, because I'm good like that.

And yet, that evil taught you that those things exist. Taught you how to deal with them in life, not to be naive to it anymore. Maybe forgiveness is just a way to admit such evil taught you something, it opened your eyes. Now you're free to act on it and not be surprised anymore. In a way, it's not the individual's fault that such evil exist, they just adopt it, willingly or not. Even if you were to kill that person, it's kind of evil will still exist and you still may meet it again in life.

Exactly, my first son gets birth almost two months ago and we bought the first house for our family and child and just guess what happened... After one month my partner's mother arrived and they both start to attack me and tried to kick me out from my home. Of course, I was clever because I listening to Jordan Peterson, other teachers from the internet and was able to stand against these two dragons within my and my son home. Now things calmed down, but I know with who I have a deal now and I know how I will play and in the end, I will buy my son from here and bye-bye. Horrible, but is what dragon means. You being together with a person for a couple of years and after without knowing she becoming a dragon snake! Be careful and always be prepared mentally and emotionally because it is one of the hardest things for a man when he loves his child and the idea of the family... I have been reached, but the mark will be as a victory, but not defeat.

I have to disagree. Knowing good and evil was not “waking up”. It was the eclipse of union with the creator. The fall wasn’t talking to or taking fruit from the snake. Eve voluntarily took the fruit from the tree. The fall was wanting to be their own god-independent from god-breaking covenant with Him. What’s more, they became cowards and would not face their own evil, instead, blamed others. The fall was into hubris, cowardice, unrepentance. I’ve seen a case made that Adam was the serpent. I really appreciate your work.

I agree with you JP but we also have to remember that God as the creator of the Universe is never caught by surprise. He created the snake, who as we look back in the Bible was the devil himself. The devil was once an angel in heaven. When he decided to change the government and tried to over throw Gods kingdom, then God kicked him out of heaven together with his followers. But what was the reason he desired to over throw the kingdom? why wasn't he satisfied with the perfection that was already surrounding him. i mean this is heaven. Everything is perfect. Why would Satan want something more or something different?? I think that is where we should be trying to analyze it from God. The snake was in the garden of Eden by plan. God planned and allowed him to be there so that he could play his role, of deception in God's great movie of life, so that God would come in and display his attributes of being a savior , a redeemer, and a restorer, attributes which he could not have otherwise expressed had the snake not been there, because before the snake, everything that God created was perfect. " And God looked at all he had created and behold it was good" Gen 1:31............SO there was nothing to save, redeem, restore, heal, or die for.. The snake was strategically placed in the garden of Eden for a purpose. But not that even God couldn't prevent the snake from being there. Thats how i look at it.

Are dragons malevolent? Surely they are the highest and wisest of all meta creatures? I would have thought that fear of poisonous snakes and sabre tooth cats are understandably evolved traits, but why birds? Maybe aviaphobia is a thing but I don't have it...

hey Jordan You know, I could use some help with the Adam and Eve thing. I see a connection with the mixing of Neanderthals and modern humans as the cause of this story. It would fit due to the expected crimes, racism, hatred, envy, love and shame due to the connection etc. And if you consider the possibility that God used to mean the sun, then two volcanic eruptions would match the waves of emigration. The Toba eruption and that of the Phlegraean Fields, if I remember that correctly. The escape of the Israelites from the Pharaoh / the sun in underground cities in Turkey and also the peculiarity of the Muslims to hide alcohol under the table would fit in with the belief that God could not look there. The sun's rays won't come by then, so I suspect the connection. A few years, decades of dark skies, volcanic winter or something. Anyway, I mean, in the oldest traditions, the sun could have been the cause, or rather, the belief that the sun is God in the end.

The present popular conception of a transcendent, omnipresent “Satan” is anti-Biblical. People given over to their carnal, self-serving cravings are routinely referred to as serpents/vipers in scripture, recalling Eden. 1. “They have sharpened their tongues like a serpent. Viper's poison is under their lips.” Ps 140:3 2. But when he [John] saw many of the Pharisees and Sadducees coming for his baptism, he said to them, "You offspring of vipers, who warned you to flee from the wrath to come?” Mt. 3:7 3. Jesus said, “You offspring of , how can you, being evil, speak good things? For out of the abundance of the heart, the mouth speaks. The good man out of his good treasure brings out good things, and the evil man out of his evil treasure brings out evil things. Mt. 12:34-35 4. Jesus said,“You serpents, you offspring of vipers, how will you escape the judgment of Gehenna?” Mt. 23:33 5. ”The poison of vipers is under their lips.” Rom 3:13 6. “They hatch adders' eggs… and that which is crushed breaks out into a viper.” Is 59:5 Love your videos, Jordan. So thought provoking.

To say he couldn’t make this place so safe is misleading. Someone so power can do what ever he wants. It’s likely he allowed this purposefully so we can choose right and wrong but also to enable growth. We require danger to become more

‏72 ) They have certainly disbelieved who say, "Allah is the Messiah, the son of Mary" while the Messiah has said, "O Children of Israel, worship Allah, my Lord and your Lord." Indeed, he who associates others with Allah - Allah has forbidden him Paradise, and his refuge is the Fire. And there are not for the wrongdoers any helpers.
