    I was wondering how he always got such a unique cross stick sound on his snare...never realized he grazes the side of the small hats on the way down. Genius!

    Gordon Fremen hmmm I’m not so sure. I think it’s just personal preference and that’s totally fine. My original comment was purely just a joke. People can use whatever the hell they want on their kit and I’m happy for them.

    What a wonderful musician. Jojo has technique sufficient to light the kit on fire at any time. Yet he creates a specific mode of tension by selectively deploying it and whipping it out once he's lulled us into a deep, melodically induced trance. Further, to hear him speak about his concepts regarding his musicality is like going on a transcendental journey to a mystical land! There's a lot of cats out there that I like to listen to. Jojo has been anointed in a very unique way.

    Wow! I love the way he's able to subdivide that slow 12/8 beat and make it sound like he completely changes time signatures and tempos all at once. But he maintains that same tempo and the same slow 12/8 beat and keeps coming back to it. Try tapping your foot along to the quarter note while he's playing those crazy subdivisions and polyrhythms and see if you're still in tempo when he comes back to the slow 12/8 groove. It requires quality listening skills as well as a strong internal clock.

    He does use a china but not always. It's usually on his right but I've seen one on the left as well. He likes to change his setup from time to time. Two Ominis or one Omni and a Fierce Ride, etc. His stack evolves too, it's usually a (Fierce) hihat top on a china but in this case it's a prototype that I don't recognize.

  • @Bluums

    @Bluums

    6 жыл бұрын

    He used to play an 18'' or 19'' AAX (or similar) china that was placed on his left side, next to the secondary snare, that was until 2011, then he switched it to right side, next to the 8'' tom. In 2015 he stopped using a china. And in 2107 he stopped using the left side Omni (at least with Nerve) :)

    It's crazy how when he messes up you barely notice. He clicked the stivks, missed a drum and dropped a stick and then he threw the other stick and said" to hell with it, I don't need it". and proceeds to produce beautiful music. That's a true professional man. That's what we should all inspire to be. Man I love the Drums.

    One of the coolest things about this piece that I think a lot of people haven’t noticed is in the beginning with the cross sticks. He’s coming down on that mini hat side swiping it right before he hits the rim on his snare. It’s like he’s doing a one handed flam cross stick! Little things like that are so creative and that’s what makes Jojo one of the greatest drummers of all time!

I still have Remo Pinstripes on my set but I've used Evans on other kits and they are just absolutely immense! Just need to bring myself to buy some new Evans heads. Everything from D'Addario company is just great product, cables, strings, sticks, but especially Evans heads! Keep doing what you're doing Evans and I'll eventually get around to buying some new skins to put on my set for my KZread videos!
