Musically they somehow blended nursery rhyme, march(ing), metal rock songs, punk songs, classical opera, chaos in the manner of Bohemian Rapshody, psychedelic music, and festival music. They have a stage presence and choreography/dance is there, cosmography and performance are there (mocking dictators for homophobic attitudes). The lyrics are cryptic but very meaningful. Letter ŠČ doesn't mean anything, it doesn't exist in the Croatian language as a letter or a word (but it does in Russian) but Š is number 25th in the alphabet, Č is the number 4, and when you add it together it's 29 which is the letter Z. Russia is using letter Z in the war even do it's not in their alphabet. NJILE - LENJIN (meaning Lenin), PAJČU - ČUPAJ (meaning Pull out but since everything is upside down its actually Put-in!) Mother ŠĆ (Mother Russia) Mom bought a tractor (Mother Russia bought a Belarus - Belarus is a model of a tractor and Lucaschenko purchased a tractor for Putin's 70s birthday) Armageddon granma (Armageddon SSSR) Mom loved a moron (repeating) (Russia loved Putin, Lenin, ...) Mom, I'm going to play (for Putin this is a game, but kids are dying) Mom, I'm going to war (he will go to war, but he said this is not a war for him it's the liberation of the territory) Mom loved a moron (Russia loved Putin) That little psychopath (Puttin is short) Wicked little psychopath Crocodile psychopath (Crocodile tears - fake tears, also a drug used in Russia which makes people act like zombies) Hope you will understand now better the whole concept of the song. It's brilliant on some other level :)

Letter 'šč' means something. It's letter in russian, ukranian, bulgarian, romanian cirilyc alphabet. Welcome to Eurovision 2023! We're serving chaos this year, I bet you didn't see that coming from us... they are always like that, quite provocative and they always have fun with their music/performances. People love this so I am getting cautiously confident we might qualify and upset many people who are on the opposite side of the spectrum haha

This is much more serious song than it seems at the first glance! It's anti-war and anti-dictatorship protest rock opera like song and brutal mockery of "little vile psychop**h" which is interpreted by many music professionals and others as Putin himself and ALL OTHER mad dictators like him. It is played by the Let 3 - famous experimental and often provocative Croatian art punk rock band that's active over 30 years and which also had numerous collaborations in theatre peroformances including those with renowned directors. Apparent lyrics description: "Mama ŠČ" = Mama Russia (among Russians "mother" symbolises their country), ŠČ is letter from the Russian alphabet. "Mother bought a tractor", by many has to have much with Belarus dictator Lukašenko's birthday gift to Putin for his 70th birthday, although some other meanings may apply too! "Mother loved a moron" = Mother Russia loved Putin. As i've written "little vile psychop**h" is by many also Putin himself and all other mad agressors like him! (Let 3 members have suggested in interviews that song is much about people exactly like Putin!) Let 3 outfits and styling: military like clothes as the representation of all mad war thirsty dictators in combo with drag queen like clothes and makeup (provocation to homophobic Russian President and likewise dictatorial conservatives). Bald man is wearing dark scarf - alusion to Rasputin, another reference to Russia and on his forehead there's inscription "NJINLE" which is Croatian word play for LENJIN (NJIN + LE = LENJIN). Nuclear rockets are rather self-explanatory: "little vile psychop**h" from the Kremlin is constantly threatening with usage of nukes which can be corroborated again with the Let 3 members interview mentioning of mad men like Putin that are threatening with "pushing the button" - direct alusion on nuclear weapons! PAJ-ČU on the rocket is the Croatian anagram for ČUPAJ which means PULL OUT and that is the opposite of? PUT-IN. Every single detail means something, brilliant!

Yes, mama is Mother Russia. It is an anti war song. Also a great way to get into ESC this year. You chose good hehehe As a Croat I have to say we made the right choice. The tractor is a reference to Belarus. They also came on a tractor to Dora hahahahha. They were always like that since they started back in 1987. They do it stuff like this for so long so I guess it became natural with time. I have to say though this is pretty tame than what they are doing normally. We def made everyone talking about us...I think we never had soooo much PR since we started participating as an independent nation. Also I was wondering where you are, glad you are back.

Its an anti-putin song. The singer is Stalin, the missiles guy in Lenin and the tractor was a presnet Lukashenko has given Putin for his 70 bday. Szczy is ineed a word but in Polish (he/she/it pisses). Doubt they meant that. :) Its the cirilic Щ. And ofc its great to see you back.

Yes, it's an actual band, they have been around on the stage since the 1980s. To qoute the wikipedia, "the band is known for their original approach to rock music and their obscene live performances. Their songs often contain provocative and vulgar lyrics." They are not my cup of tea, though, since they usually make fun of conservatism. However, I do like this performance for the ESC.

this is an anti-war performance, It has to be chaotic, because all the dictators are chaotic and hypocritical as the wars they produce for fun and money, while many people die! This performance holds serious messages!

Countries who decide to send songs in a local language that few people understand cannot be offended that others may not understand what that song is about. You want to sing in local language? Great. But it’s on you to still convey your message. The idea that everyone else will just google every song (essentially do homework) to find hidden depths and meaning is just preposterous. This is the reaction most people will have “on the night”. They will see it for the first time, not understand a word and just go by what they see and hear. Will it qualify? Sure. Just for being outrageous (and the semis having televote only). It will also divide opinion which is not actually a bad thing in Eurovision. The juries won’t reward this, but it could go near the top televote. I’m not a fan of this as a song myself but I will concede that. And I can see the entertainment value of the performance. Without that, it would never qualify though.

​@@Leifdk1 Considering the theme, their past with cccp/russia, and the present situation, croatia can very likely count on some votes from juries from ukraine (12 points are secured), moldova (i predict 10 or 12 points), romania, slovakia, poland (it's already hit amongst esc fans there), czechia, estonia, latvia, azerbaijan, lithuania, georgia, armenia, maybe even finland and sweden. Let3 is also very popular and respected rock group in slovenia and serbia, so two more juries with some points. With public vote (big croatian, but also from other balkan countries, diaspora in germany, austria, switzerland, scandinavia, ireland, australia, and add poland and germany, who selected similar shock-rock group, to the mix) it could even finish in top 10. Last year serbia got only 87 points from all the juries, but finished 5th because of the public. Moldova got only 14, but finished 7th. Basicly, jury is not kingmaker anymore. If people like it, so far most of them do, it can finish very high no matter the juries points.

I think this is the most controversial song of this season, and for me I must say, thanks I hate it. It's not fun enough for a joke entry, and not good enough for a serious song. (I'm gonna get a lot of hate for this)

Tractor is a reference to Belarus president Lukashenko's birthday present to Putin. In the song Putin is described as a "vile little psychopath", the vocalist represents Stalin, and the guy with nuclear rockets has NINLE on his forehead (word play: Nin-Le=Lenin) and is dressed in monk's outfit, like Rasputin. Insertion of a dominant, sinister, dark Lenin, who came way before Putin, points to a much deeper problem. And those TWO nuclear warheads; after all we all know who dropped the A-bombs! ’Trajna nina nena’ is Croatian song for little kids; ‘Trajna nina armagedon nona’(grandma) speaks for itself. Mama ŠČ is a metaphor for Mother Russia (ŠČ is a letter of the Russian alphabet, also old Croatian Glagolitic). The Cyrillic letter Shch Щ was derived from the Glagolitic (Croatian script) letter Sht Ⱋ.
