Euro NCAP Crash & Safety Tests of Aiways U5 2019
Euro NCAP performs a series of crash and safety tests on car models:
- a frontal impact test, the car impacts a rigid barrier
- an offset frontal impact test, 40% of the width of the car is striking a deformable barrier
- a pole test, the tested car is propelled sideways into a rigid pole
- a side impact test, a mobile deformable barrier impacts the driver's door.
A series of pedestrian tests are conducted with different impactors, adult and child head form, lower and upper leg form and whiplash tests are performed on a sled.
Active safety is tested based on the car’s equipment: autonomous emergency braking systems (car to car, with a pedestrian and a cyclist target), lane support and speed assist technologies and seatbelt reminders.

For people wondering AIWAYS have responded to euro ncap anders resolving the issues to make it 5 stars and being a startup company they will be sure to improve even more in future and current models

@@gronz When the tech is stolen and it's subventioned by the CCP, keeping a low price isn't so hard
The brand started in February 2017, only less than 3 years old, I'd say there is definitely for improvement but not bad for a brand new start up company. Not to mention their first car was announced only a year ago in November 2018.

The curtain airbag not only failed to protect the child's head by not extending far enough, but it also didn't deploy properly.

child seats need a Crotch Air bag.
Impressive results of course always will be room for improvement but that includes all car companies
Still safer than a 1 star Jeep Wrangler... I’d take my chances with this car..
Still safer than a Fiat Punto tho 😂
Aiways is just a start up new car company..They'll improve for sure.

And the U5 drives pretty good to, I do not like the instrument cluster. but else the car is easy and very nice to drive.
Why did the front airbags deploy in the direct side crash test?

According to the report, the side curtain airbags don't work properly. As such there were high impact readings for the dummies, especially in the pole test. www.euroncap.com/en/results/Aiways/U5/39672 (Adult Occupant -> Comments)

@@aljowen I've noticed that seat belt pretensioners were deployed in any of the side impacts. Which is weird as I think they alway deploy the seat belt pretensioners in most cars in side impacts. I think this could contribute to poor side impact ratings.
looking at the video the 3x Star rating seems to be too low, but I am no expert .....

The stability of the chassis seem to be good, maybe they measured higher forces than usual in some tests. The results are not the best, but there is room for improvements, as long as the chassis itself isn't the problem.

The curtain airbags didn't deploy properly that's why the SUV got less star rating..Aiways is just a newly formed EV vehicle manufacturer in China.

Don't buy it then. Customers have been choosing cost over safety since literally the dawn of consumer motoring. The whole point of these tests is to empower consumers with the relevant information.

If you buy a 10 year old car with 5 stars. This can be worse than a new 3 stars car. Every year the stars get devaluated. Always connect the star rating with the year of testing. What car do you drive now and how old is it? It may be that this car is safer than the car you are driving NOW.

Herman Willems I drive a Model 3, which is safer than any Chinese-brand’s car, even Volvo’s cars can’t match the Tesla’s low probability of injury.

Pole impact test is NOT Acceptable, too much cabin Pennitration. side & front Impact is good. however LOW performance of Pedestrian Avoidance with Obscured Pedestrian. and LOW performance with Pedsetrian over 60 km/hr . in all Pretty impressive for a Chinese car but need to Focus on BEST safety First, then work on vehicle Performance.
