+Corvus Rabiatus haha yeah, I noticed he didn't lock his bike. This is something foreigners do often and then they are surprised that their bike got stolen, just lock your bikes people. It's not different then leaving the door of your car open with the keys in the ignition, if you make it easy people WILL steal your stuff.

I married into a Dutch family & I was amazed how similar they are to the Portuguese with their nosiness (real busy bodies), directness to the point of rudeness, judgmental, critical & the similarities of the foods & customs. The Portuguese are very friendly towards outsiders but once you’ve part of the family you had better get a thick skin!😂

Portuguese is not easy as well, but we are friendly and the people always like to come to Brazil. Now, prepare the mind and wallet \o/

I don't know where Tanelen got his information, but I can assure you that we actually do love foreigners. You'll hear like 5 different languages on a bus, everyone speaks english and most also speak german and/or french. As for colleges, there are MANY MANY foreigners so we're very used to being around chinese, germans, americans.. etc. You name a country and I'm sure you'll find a student from there.

My aunt lives in netherlands, has since she was in college there, and she was very insistent on me moving there after finishing my career in Systems Engineering(Have worked in ICT for 7 years, I just never even thought of getting my degree) and she tells me there is a lot of openings, and not a lot of people(Counting EU people) to cover it, so I said "What the heck" and after I have my degree(plus my Azure AI cert and all the rest I already have) I will take her word and get a vacation there to get to know the place and leave my resume in some places, and hopefully I will be able to go live there, I really look forward to it happening :)

I was, via the military route (US Navy), in Amsterdam for a week way back in the late 1950s...and from that experience, had always wanted to retire in the Netherlands as I enjoyed it so much (loved the bicycles, got hit once,, but the move didn't happen of course, but if I ever win one of the lotteries I will definitely move there!). Of course, via the military, I had seen the UK (and Ireland), Spain, France (Cannes), Greece, North Africa, Israel, and other countries, but had been most taken with the Netherlands. I'm appreciative of your own desire to remain there, as we often say, "diff'rent strokes for diff'rent folks"...everyone has different reasons and needs. I am glad you have found the country to your liking! for myself, I prefer the more enlightend attitudes of sensuality and sexuality of the LGTQIA movement...as the Puritan ethic I found in "the States" is much too confining. Not that I am into men, but that I was raised in a family of 17 aunts (a tale there of course), 3 of which taught me to be their niece on weekends I was take to attend church with them. As soon as my mother left, I would become their neice...and don't tell your mother! I prefer fetish dressing pleasures and "LOVEBONDAGE" scenarios for both companions, partners, and playmates which I discovered when in Amsterdam and had always since wanted to move and retire there. I am easy going, caring, considerate and willing to accept other peoples likes and needs...and still seeking that special person who understands and needs "different loving" of alternate realities, and as such am still seeking that special woman for me...even at my own advanced age

I haven't been to Holland so am not able to comment. Good that you found a better life elsewhere. Rising costs & taxes is the same everywhere. Good luck to you and family.

About 8 hours a day and normally 36 to 40 hours a week. 24 paid vacation days a year is also normal and that's for workdays only, so the weekends has to be added to that 24 days. It's a law to get 15 days vacation in a row each year.

there are nice and rude people EVERYWHERE...but for the most part they are incredibly friendly and I did not encounter any problems as a foreigner in the netherlands. They are so open-minded and internationally diverse, you know?
