I think that you are missing out by not checking out the original. Sometimes you may not like it as much, but sometimes you may just find something you'll really like. I became a fan of Helloween and Gary Moore thanks to Tommy and his covers and I'm really grateful to him for that. It doesn't mean I like Tommy's covers of their songs any less, on the contrary, I just got something else I can enjoy 😃
