Much as I like the size of that case for carrying around, I think for myself as a woman with big squishy woman bits, they would get in the way of seeing the board properly. So it would need to be deeper. Probably the next case size up. I hope that made sense, I couldn't think of another polite way of saying it 😂 For myself, I made a board out of foam board, that slips into the top of the sketchbook. I put a bit of magnet tape on the board and some on the bottom of my portable painter micro and that holds really well because the palette is so light. I could have tried some of those clips with the magnet on the back but I didn't have one. They would work better than the tape if you have a heavier metal palette. I mix in the water part of the palette because I don't trust myself not spill the water if I put it in there. I have one of those little metal clip on containers that are supposed to be used for oils, as my water cup. It feels safer as the top is narrower and the lid seals so I can carry the water in it if I want to. You can get those containers as two on a clip too, if you want clean and dirty water. The foam board is surprisingly strong and very light so beware of strong winds while you're setting up. That seems to be the only downside so far.

Wow! I would love this satchel. I usually stand and sketch but I had to switch to smaller sketchbooks which are easier to hold. With this satchel, I'll be able to use an A5 sketchbook and take my time to sketch. Thanks for a great review!!

Thank you, Teoh. Your comments about creating a workflow based on a product are excellent. I do think Etchr could’ve added a mesh pocket (or 2) in the front and/or inside. I don’t care for the big front pocket where it is hard to see things and items might fall out. I think they could’ve added some small magnetic clips to hold a watercolor palette. I also think they should’ve added a sliding pad for the shoulder strap to increase comfort. Thank you for your very thoughtful review.

I don’t think I have ever had to paint standing up. If so, I would use a waterbrush and sock cuff wristlet. Otherwise, I would sketch standing up, take a reference photo, and go find a coffee shop to paint! Thank you for for reviewing this so I can see it’s not for me.

Your videos are always great to watch, really enjoy them Teoh. I have the larger slate satchel and don't have a problem with the weight although I am a big fella and use the tripod mount as well. Because of it's compact size, for me, I think the Nano might be a bit too small but can see other people using it. it was interesting how you had to move your work area further away from your body to help with your neck. The search for the perfect setup is like trying to find the end of a rainbow, it always eludes us.

@@teohyc Hi, we share a tablet, so my wife's making this suggestion: Swap for Aquabrushes! She says (fill with water before you leave home, water all safely contained!) Also how about slipping on a white cotton terry towelling sports wrist sweatband but ONLY if your paints are not toxic types not using heavy metals (Cadmium, Cobalt, etc). This provides an area to clean your brush off or blot excess water from your brush. You squeeze the plastic barrel to push water through the water/aquabrush as needed, instead of swishing a normal brush in a pot. You may just prefer real brushes and water though (?) but for convenience using this easel, it'd be far less stressful all round to break out the aquabrushes and wristband method, instead of using open container of water. This easel looked less of an issue for a male flat chest but for ladies contours there's realistically no way things are not going to tip at some point when you're trying to concentrate. Not an issue with water brushes, as nothing open to spill. Having just kitted out a pencil case especially for trying 'urban sketching' and with an original Go Draw mini Pallet, empty secondhand Cotman sketchers box filled with watercolour and the Derwent Line and Wash set, Aquabrushes by Pentel (Aquash) and Derwent, nearly all bases are now covered, bar a stool and some standing easel, so thanks for the sensible review on this one.

Hi, Becky! Two equally important issues as the dropping things issue (mine as well as yours! ) have been raised here: One is for us ladies - not at all sure how it would work for us... The bigger satchels would be ok, with the work surface allowing the sketchbook to be further away, but I noticed that Teoh, having moved his s'book further away had it closer to him again as he worked. The other one is similar. Someone asked how it would work for a larger man with a broader, fuller chest... same problem as for the ladies! It's no use for me, anyway. I think I may be unique among ArtTubers & viewers, cos I am very happy with what I have! 😄

It looks like an interesting and somewhat practical product, still with a few shortcomings. I’m not really sure if it is aimed solely at urban sketchers or simply to those that like to draw outside, standing or not. Probably a light tripod with side support for brushes, inks and a few other accessories might work for better? Here’s a challenge for industrial designers - merge ergonomics with pratical and convenient use.

Ultimately it will come down to the weight. The company has other satchels (with tripod mount) and those are noticeably heavier so it becomes a drag when bringing/carrying them out.

I was excited at first but then when you were showing how close to the body it is I can see that size being kind of annoying for people with a chest. It would make it difficult see what you are doing and get to the edge of the paper..

Hey Teoh, thank you for demonstrating this new product. I'm really interested in getting your opinion on how this bag compares to the Darsie Beck bag, which you've reviewed in the past (and which I use). (I do also have, and have used, the Etchr Slate Mini, so I'm familiar with how the Etchr design works.) It seems like the Darsie Beck bag has more storage and is therefore bulkier, though it's made of lightweight material. I do find the Darsie Beck bag dances around a bit when worn cross-body when sketching, though. The Etchr design felt more stable to me.

Darsie Beck's has more pockets, and has a strap dedicated to holding a watercolour box. And it has side pockets for easy access to extra pens, and a side pocket to fit a 500ml bottle. The Etchr one has fewer pockets

Hi Teoh. Even watching you made my neck hurt! Have you looked into boards mounted on tripods? I’ve even thought about taping down a tripod mount to corrugated plastic. It would seem to me that you, of all the artists I watch on youtube, would benefit from a tripod/board or palette box setup. I’ve seen J. Gurney has designed his own very light version… but I’m guessing there are light weight versions of this idea. I know tripods are clumsy to carry, but they do seem to be getting lighter and more compact.

Hmm, I would prefer this bag to be slightly bigger actually. So when you move sketchbook away from your body at 11:30 it would still be supported by bag and could be clipped to bag. But that's my preference 😆Overall it's neat little bag, perfect for travelling or if you just want to have option to carry your little painting set up with you in case you may want to paint sth but don't want a hassle of big bag.

I always enjoy watching your sketch videos. Is the finger-string-like ring on the front cover of the bag actually there so that you can hook your fingers on it and use the bag like you would a pallet ? I'm a bit curious about this, so if you don't mind, please let me know.
