This is an amazing brazilian song composed by Ary Barroso and recorded by Carmen Miranda in duet with Almirante, in 1938. Esther Williams asked Carmen to teach her to sing and dance this song.

Cena do filme "Quem manda é o amor" ("Easy to wed"), na qual Esther Willians e Van Johnson cantam "Boneca de Piche", de Ary Barroso e Luiz Iglesias. A atriz pediu a Carmen Miranda que lhe ensinasse sobre "os macetes da letra", bem como alguns passos. A brasileira atendeu ao pedido e não lhe cobrou nada por isso.

"Uma colega que precisou se armar de coragem para visitar Carmen pela primeira vez foi Esther Williams, já consagrada como a rainha das piscinas da MGM. Esther só conhecia Carmen pelos filmes e imaginava que, ao vivo, ela fosse uma mulher quase de fábula enorme, muito maquiada, equilibrando três abacaxis na copa do chapéu. Mas quem a recebeu à beira da piscina foi uma mulher pequenininha, descalça, de maiô, cara lavada, queimada de sol e com rabo-de- cavalo, pela qual se encantou de saída. E só ao observar-lhe a boca, os olhos e a gesticulação Esther compreendeu por que Carmen crescia tanto na tela. Tempos depois, sentiu-se à vontade para pedir a Carmen que fosse à MGM ensinar-lhe "Boneca de piche", de Ary Barroso e Luiz Iglesias, que ela e Van Johnson cantariam no filme Quem manda é o amor (Easy to wed). Let me tell you something.If the government had changed the system so that all government spending was provided by a central bank at no cost to the government, and basic income would also have been paid to everyone. So the opposite of wage labor but self-sufficiency, then our society everywhere today would look like in this film

The song doesn't make any sense in the scene. The lyrics talk about a black woman.

the whole number is so pathetically bad. And Esther Williams should always have been kept in or under water. Acting was certainly not her forte.
